Cincinnati: Evolution and Changing Perceptions of Urban Neighborhoods
Interesting perspective https://instagram.com/p/Bjr-e0cHoCQ/ Reading her comment it sounds like she works in otr, but lives in Lebanon OH. I’m not a women, and haven’t really lived in any other urban cities aside from Cincy. Is this simply the nature of the beast when it comes to urban environments? Or is this an, “OTR resident issue” problem? I’d also like to propose this question...If you had a daughter, would you feel confident that she would be safe if she lived alone in OTR? I know it’s a loaded question of sorts since urban environments always pose some risk, but with relation to the current state of OTR, do you feel that safety would still be a concern for a single women living and working in otr today? Just curious on what all of your respective thoughts are on this!

In regards to liberty st diet, the city website still says bids will be open for fall 2018 bid and 2019 spring start. https://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/dote/dote-projects/liberty-street-safety-improvement-study/ It also says that the majority of the funding is in place...is there any reason to be concerned that something is amiss??

Do we know what is going on with the Columbia building on walnut st? Earllier in the year I saw 3cdc doing a lot of work, but I guess it was just for stabilization? They’ve since stopped any work from what I can tell...

So basically these problem areas can stay problem areas for essentially eternity? Even if say 10 years when you could theoretically have 2 million dollar condos sit right across the street? It’s weird, in Toronto the section 8 Housing community felt so safe. They were all immigrants but they were so nice and pleasant. For some reason, in cincy you can get mugged and shot when stepping into these communities...

Yes. Landlords get vouchers for people coming out of drug rehab programs, mental health problems, etc. Are these benefits better than redeveloping the units for Luxery apartments/condos?

You see property value continue to rise and rise in otr, especially with address interested from developers after fcc. What I’m curious is why we are allowing these hardened criminals who rob and run massive prostitution and drug dens stay in otr? Do they get government incentives for allowing them to rent these apartments? I feel like something fishy is going on....

I’m just generally curious. Obviously we see developers build new construction/rehab and set record prices at times with 750-800k dollar condos. Do these crime spikes hurt there efforts? Then we see what Source 3 Elm and Liberty project breaking ground in the summer and they expect to lease over 100 apartment units...but will residents coming flocking to north of liberty when a majority of the homocides occur in that stretch? What’s your thoughts?

This is just horrible for the changing perception of otr. Saddens me a lot. I wonder if we would ever hit a tipping point where people would actually stop visiting resturaunts/bars in otr because of rising crime again?

The only thing that I’m happy about is that it’s one less drug dealer roaming the streets of otr. I spent time on grand jury in March, and the amount of drug dens in otr is actually quite astounding. The sad part is that the police know about these houses but can’t do anything about them. It’s sad. You see otr becoming this bright vibrant place but it still feels as if it’s past is still tightly tethered to its current state. Edit: https://courtclerk.org/data/cns_results.php?toggle=on&court%5BCCV%5D=on&court%5BCCR%5D=on&court%5BMCV%5D=on&court%5BMCR%5D=on&court%5BCDR%5D=on&court%5BCOA%5D=on&lname=dunlap&fname=SHERRARD&dob=&cname=&datelimit_beg=&datelimit=&g-recaptcha-response=03ACgFB9sTruOlxeT63drKOeT_h-RKORarFNS1ogcTLH826IMENBm9X_mJPfg_Ps7d9B2MfH2taDIflH9M7LY6pSUVQGFt0tj3Aan7I2yN0r7vo5Bkj7rip8hLW6adksSAWdCUXkAfDI8VBu126gIFmDVsBY3vd0qYCK0Zp2pVyh4_vnPPigb4RIA1vdaF3oMK9mrbsa8vhfPBKs5Ekrntf-kVqrbA7Ysp-IfXJeiJ_S2dxo9UBBr2PxpAO8dgpsGW0bt3HJphuuWPCdtE1a6WmklOEo2kNRVBooEkVW_DsAiA6kE4YFEUg7XRmwv0wjl839DVRz_X6NN8Evz1fVWKtkFkxBCECXonVU9WFgfA33jf5r6saTi6sWm8aB-rUAkNv5r-74VfSdglZ_Jz5Oyj0QhcXtobaPedSTHzauY9hkvo-0m_OP955RwfSTE2CjoWfcsyw1fVchfF His criminal record is literallt 50 rows of different counts. How the hell was this guy even allowed to rent an apartment? How was this guy even allowed to live so close to a school? That is so troubling that you can have someone like this just roam the streets and not be locked behind bars.

Cincinnati: Evolution and Changing Perceptions of Urban Neighborhoods
Had some out of town family come and visit OTR last night. We went to Mecca and stayed out very late. Quite unfortunate that a double shooting occurred and police swarmed the surrounding area. They were impressed by otr earlier in the day and said such nice things about it, but left saying otr hasn’t changed with the violent crime. I tried to argue that it has changed, but it’s sort of hard to prove your point when there’s a dead shot up body laying on the ground laying next to you....I love otr, but man it sucks to see shootings rise again, and only help push the narrative that otr is dangerous and a drug dealer paradise. I’m still kind of curious why the trouble makers and drug dealers are sticking around otr and still dealing in the area? I have to imagine it’s becoming more and more difficult to not be noticed...also I’m surprised that they haven’t been priced out yet, but I imagine they live in section 8 Housing...

Would it be safe to say this is a matter of supply versus demand? Sure, the OTR/Pendleton area is booming, but the reality is that there are probably over 50-100 vacant lots, if not more. I am the under the impression that the sycamore lots will only become developed when all of Pedelton and OTR are built out.

Won’t the Kroger tower include parking above? I’m sure that will be convenient for court house employees.... I’m just curious how many parking garages do we need to build more in order to serve those employees?

I've noticed that the huge massive Pendelton lots now have banners advertising as parking for the Pendelton Resturaunt District. I'm guessing it makes sense considering there is now a brewery, and a few resturaunts already there. The pendelton area seems to be becoming quite active nowadays. I just wish we had an inside track of who the owner of those pendelotn lots are? Is it one single person? Have they been getting offers on those lots? The amount of land, could lead to a huge massive mixed use development. I just wish we knew why they are still sitting as parking, especially when there are so many parking options right now in OTR already...

Cincinnati: Walnut Hills / East Walnut Hills: Development and News
From what I understand, that location gets ALOT of police activity and crime. It's unfortunate. I'm all about low income housing, but how do you revive an area, when the low income housing is the source for constant criminal activity?
-
Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Is that really a better location? I feel like most people who go to OTR are wary of crossing the Liberty Street border, that divides North Liberty and the gentrified portion of OTR. Crossing Liberty St, especially close to the shell at night, is one of the sketchiest places to be in all of Cincy IMO.

Cincinnati: West End: TQL Stadium
Did anyone watched the announcement video yesterday? Was I the only one who got chills when Don Garber recognized how special the stadium location would be? He admitted that MLS fought for that location, and compared OTR/West End to various European cities (stadium site wise), and how this will be the premier stadium location in all of MLS. He had very high praise for OTR, and I'm just so happy that our historic district is getting this level of attention. I mentioned a year or 2 ago, how OTR will become a destination for tourists all across America, and with FCC being located in OTR/West End this will only garner that much attention/tourists. Also, do not be surprised (especially if FCC garners large international friendlies like Barcelona/Madrid/Bayren Munich) if OTR becomes an international destination as well. Huge for the recognition of this beloved historic district.

Cincinnati: Bars / Nightlife News
With fcc playing in the West End now in 2021, does this make the giant sycamore lot craters more attractive for mixed use development? I sometimes get worried they will be used for game day parking being charged 25$ a spot.

So I noticed the green building on vine next to Kroger has a new sign with a bright red banner saying, “Coming Soon, 4K square feet space.” By 3cdc. I thought this rehab project wouldn’t be happening so soon by 3cdc, but I’m glad if it does!

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
I understand why people want to have things like malls and movie theaters downtown, but IMO, those things will not be successful in Downtown Cincinnati. (At least not at this point in time.) Suburbanites in Cincinnati will not pay to park downtown to go to a mall or movie theater downtown when they can do those activities in the suburbs and get free parking. Let's keep downtown focused on unique things that you can't also get in the suburbs. I get that...I’m just basing this off how packed resturaunts are during the weekend and now more so in the days...I just think that we can have these families do more than visit the resturaunt and leave. Give them a reason to maybe eat at the Eagle, get some ice cream at greaters and head over to a mall type concept to shop. I feel like it would fit naturally.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
So this is great and all, but I still hope that OTR will create entertainment options that are not simply breweries/bars/restaurants, etc. I still think the next major step would be to include a, "downtown" mall of sorts. I've always envisioned this for the Pendelton lots. A movie theater, enclosed with various high retail stores like h and m, rolex, Coach, Nike stores, North Face, Micheal Kors, etc. If you go to any major city in America or in Europe, they have a downtown urban shopping center. NYC has Times Square, Chicago has the Magnificent Mile, and Toronto has Dundas Square. I know this may be an unpopular opinion, and maybe an improbable one for Cincinnati at this stage of the game...That said, if you have a family visiting OTR, sure you can check our some kick ass restaurants, and maybe stop by Graters for ice cream, and stroll Washington park...but aside from that, you don't really have a life hub. Creating an OTR shopping center/downtown mall, would create more reasons for a family to visit and actually stay in OTR longer. Otherwise, most families will park there car, eat at the restaurant, cross the street for graters and go home. We need to be creating more unique entertainment options. So far, it's been a constant cycle of bar > restaurant > bar > brewery > restaurant. We need more entertainment options and variety...especially for families with young kids and teenagers. Hell, if you were a UC student and are under 21, aside from eating a restaurant you would have very little reason to go to OTR aside from some miscellaneous festivals at Washington Park .

It's funny how the Elm & Liberty project was almost dead with Source 3, but as soon as the FG joined they are now beginning construction this summer, and also seem to be continuing there Elm and Liberty expansion phase with 1621 Logan. It's a huge ugly building to. This is great for NoL.

So whatever happened to that development on 14th and Republic, that small warehouse building? I thought it was supposed to be a bar and a rooftop bar. Whatever happened with that?

I have to imagine the vine st Kroger will close sometime in 2019..or is it 2020? Hopefully the infill will match the density as the Meiner building!
