  1. This last paragraph makes me wonder how many more graveyards 'CBE will be whistling past as well.

Four years ago I came across this billboard in Cincy...

6 weeks later.... I know there was a Misny billboard in Downtown Marion....3 years ago.
  4. They are. The locals have shown, over the course of the last 30 years, that they will not give up their land for new roads. Thus, ODOT is being forced to spend an overabundance of $$$ to counteract 75 years of unchecked development along US 23 from Delaware Reservoir to I-270.
  5. Thanks for the call out (I think). I won't be able to make it, my job will have me in Alliance that Saturday.

When I was I young adult (pre internet, pre MTR, pre roadfan, pre UrbanOhio, etc) I had a subscription to Modern Drummer magazine (that lasted 10 years, I think). In one issue (mid to late 90s) they had interviewed Idris Mohommed and he was complaining about rappers stealing his drumbeats and not compensating him. Your reference above to drums being "uncopywriteable" trigger that memory for me.

Driven by Vicksburg along US 61 & I-20 about a dozen times over the years. Other than the lookout over Mississippi River bridges, I've never really stopped and looked at the architecture of Vicksburg. Thanks for doing us the honor.
  8. I like to joke that I was OSU-LSU before Joe Burrow made it cool. 😁 But back in the early days of UrbanOhio, I decided to move from Clintonville to Baton Rouge and enroll in LSU's Geography Dept to pursue a masters degree (this was back in 2004). I lived down there for 5 years ('04-'09) before moving back to Central Ohio. For comparison to Ink's recent photos, I offer several links to photos I took around Baton Rouge, in 2005 http://www.roadfan.com/dtbrrd.html http://www.roadfan.com/beaure.html http://www.roadfan.com/spanish.html http://www.roadfan.com/sbrrd.html http://www.roadfan.com/ebrrd.html

I ended up plagiarizing myself for one of the Urban Planning courses I took at OSU, eons ago. I researched and wrote an expansive term paper concerning the "rise and fall of I-73" for Dr. Kevin Cox's Advance Political Geography course (Geog 660). I then turned around and decided to use it again for some Urban Planning course that a PhD student was covering. I think the PhD student gave me a better grade than Dr. Cox did.
  10. Wasn't sure which photo thread to add these to, but I decided here. Driven by Rolling Fork, Ms. along US 61, a dozen times over the years. I think it was in fall of 2008 I finally decided to stop and photograph their Gazebo & plaque honoring McKinley Morganfield, aka Muddy Waters, who was born near there, back in 1915. After the tornado tore the town up, earlier this week, the plaque might be among the only things still standing. 😥 And a pictorial history of Rolling Fork, painted on the side of a building.

Funny. I drove through (and stopped for 30 minutes for photographs) Dubuque last month.

Yabo, if you live in Central Ohio, I would second Mr. Charlie's comment and go to 'World of Photography' in Grandview first.

So...technically not music, but about music. My uncle, Pete Gulyas, owner/operator of Blue Arrow Records, is the subject of this interview for 'Stairway to Cleveland, and his fandom for Black Sabbath.

Ah, the magical age of 50. The year AARP starts calling you to join them. (25 years ago, when my parents turned 50, AARP mailed them letters to join)
  17. I guess there is one less building in Zanesville to be preserved...😥 https://www.zanesvilletimesrecorder.com/story/news/2022/01/07/county-preparing-collapse-masonic-temple/9127403002/. (I don't know if this link is paywalled or not)
  18. My dad had the full album (came out in 1975), and it had lyrics for Autobahn on the back.
  19. If you look at High St, on either side of Glen Echo, it was just about a done deal, as is. The west side had a White Castles (till 2011), and on the east side has a Tim Hortons and the remains of a small strip mall, just north of Portal Park. (This is also near where Olentangy Amusement Park was located back before WW 2)
  20. I had Dr. Cox for several classes during my time in OSU Geography ('99-'02). This is similar to what he was writing about and teaching back then as well. Back at the turn of the millennium , another (then retired) OSU Geography professor, Dr. Henry Hunker, wrote a similar book about Columbus, entitled 'A Personal Geography.'
  21. You sure those are trees?
  22. Magyar replied to a post in a topic in City Photos - Ohio
I guess that is awhile ago 🙃. I'm guessing that is a railroad roundhouse (below the Leveque and right of the old municipal powerplant smokestack). So, pre innerbelt & 315, minimum.
  23. Magyar replied to a post in a topic in City Photos - Ohio
My guess is when they built the original innerbelt, early 50s.
  24. I'm actually curious as to what the rest of you decide upon. I'm hosting/organizing a bridge tour of Cleveland at the end of this month, and I'm not sure where I'm going to send my friends for a Saturday lunch. I may well follow what you all decide upon.
