Yeah, but Noozer keeps telling us that the arch looked better in front of a train station prior to the 1970s

Web Site Design/coding question
I'm trying to condense all the various text/page links on my Ohio index page (www.roadfan.com/ohsigns.html) And in doing so I would like to put in some pull-down menus for the various pages one could go to from that page. The catch, I can't seem to get any of the selections on any of the menus "active." IOW, when you click on any of the choices of pages, nothing happens (no new page, no error screen, nothing). So, how do I go about creating pull-down menus that you can click on a selection and go to that particular webpage (from the selection given)? Do I need to abandon HTML and use some other programming language? :?

Pro-Urban/Pro-City songs
Hey Musky, You do know that the song "The City of New Orleans" is about a train and not the city itself.

Well, if you're going to go that route. I'll raise your Pretenders with Lou Reed, circa 1986, talking about his hometown. Pedro lives out of the wilshire hotel He looks out a window without glass The walls are made of cardboard, newspapers on his feet His father beats him cause hes too tired to beg Hes got 9 brothers and sisters Theyre brought up on their knees Its hard to run when a coat hanger beats you on the thighs Pedro dreams of being older and killing the old man But thats a slim chance hes going to the boulevard Hes going to end up, on the dirty boulevard Hes going out, to the dirty boulevard Hes going down, to the dirty boulevard This room cost 2,000 dollars a month You can believe it man its true Somewhere a landlords laughing till he wets his pants No one here dreams of being a doctor or a lawyer or anything They dream of dealing on the dirty boulevard Give me your hungry, your tired your poor Ill piss on em Thats what the statue of bigotry says Your poor huddled masses, lets club em to death And get it over with and just dump em on the boulevard Get to end up, on the dirty boulevard Going out, to the dirty boulevard Hes going down, on the dirty boulevard Going out Outside its a bright night Theres an opera at lincoln center Movie stars arrive by limousine The klieg lights shoot up over the skyline of manhattan But the lights are out on the mean streets A small kid stands by the lincoln tunnel Hes selling plastic roses for a buck The traffics backed up to 39th street The tv whores are calling the cops out for a suck And back at the wilshire, pedro sits there dreaming Hes found a book on magic in a garbage can He looks at the pictures and stares at the cracked ceiling At the count of 3 he says, I hope I can disappear And fly fly away, from this dirty boulevard I want to fly, from dirty boulevard I want to fly, from dirty boulevard I want to fly-fly-fly-fly, from dirty boulevard I want to fly away I want to fly Fly, fly away I want to fly Fly-fly away (fly a-) Fly-fly-fly (-way, ooohhh...) Fly-fly away (I want to fly-fly away) Fly away (I want to fly, wow-woh, no, fly away)

Columbus Ranked 8th Best Big City - Money Magazine
To David and Kingfish. When you live (or visit) outside of Ohio and say you're from Columbus, without mentioning Ohio, there is still a good chance you'll be asked "which Columbus." So it's not just "Silly CEOs," but "silly commoners" as well.

How we got around before sprawl - PA Trolley Museum
Speaking of the New Orleans streetcar system (and tieing it in with a Hurricane Katrina story). Tennessee Williams's play, Streetcar named Desire allueded to an actual streetcar route (see Rob's photo below) The Desire streetcar was changed over to bus service in 1948. With a couple of changes to streamline the route it ran up till Hurricane Katrina. When the New Orleans Transit Authority limped back to life this year. The Desire busline was no more. With that background, here's the more poeitic version from New Orleans. http://www.nola.com/rose/t-p/index.ssf?/rose/katrina/the_end_of_the_line.html

Think of it as a "prototype" for ODOT. I do wish they poured about another 1,000 cubic yds of concrete and joined the Front/Goodale Overpass with the High St. cap. Those two look close enough.

Goat on a trampoline
After seeing a preview for Snakes on a Plane (during the All-Star Game). I have a bad feeling that this movie is going to crash and burn. Looks too much like a horror flick than a comedy or dram-edy.

Group flying billboards of aborted fetuses over Dayton
It all goes back to power. The desire of others to control the bodies of others. We have plenty of examples, world wide, of men using their reproductive equipment (hows that for PC) as a weapon against women. It's bad enough that rapes occur. To compound that by telling women they must have this baby they don't want is as equally cruel. The politics of life is a minefield that rarely a person can manage to walk across.
