  1. You'd like small towns (Plain City, Ostrander, or even in or around Marysville) Or be connected to the "big city" (Hilliard or Dublin which are adjancent to the westside of Columbus)? We do have photos of Marysville http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=742.0 Some....interesting shots of Dublin http://www.roadfan.com/moredub.html I know no one has taken any photos of Ostrander (last check, population 472) and I don't see photos of Plain City on the site here either.

  3. As to other parts of this site, City discussions (look up "the dirt" on various communities in the state) and Ohio Photos (get a notion of how most locals in Ohio actually look).
  4. And Powell, and Shawnee Hills, and Ostrander.
  5. It's a sound you make with your mouth, like P-f-sh-e. Wouldn't wooooosh or Pffffffffffffff work just as well? :?
  6. Now that the comedy has been said, how far north of Columbus are you planning to move to? Ohio State University area (aka University and Clintonville) Northern Suburbs (Dublin, Worthington, Westerville, New Albany) Neighboring counties (Union, Delaware, Licking) Exurbs (aka Countryside: Marion, Morrow, Knox)
  7. yes, when the dodgers and giants blew town the mets came out of it. they are like a memorial team. thus, unlike the new browns for example, which are the same team part deux, the mets are a ripoff of both former nyc teams. welllllll ok, a homage if you like. even the upcoming new ballpark continues the old team homage tradition of the mets. First, the Dodgers & Giants left after the 1957 season. The Mets came in 4 seasons later. MLB wasn't going to expand till Branch Rickey and his "planned" Contennetal (sp) League in 1960 forced MLB's hand and they expanded to both defuse Branch's league and a threatened attack on their anti-trust exemption. The Metropolitans' placement in the NL and team colors/design was to remember the Dodgers/Giants as stated before.
  8. Unless they change colors (lets break out Maize and blue for one year ), I could care less.

From Pre-Katrina days: New Orleans - We put the Fun in FUNerals (caps added by me)
  10. (Then Mayor) Rendell was all for the Repubs bringing their convention to Philadelphia (1996 or 2000), so there's no reason Coleman and the Repubs can't work something out for Columbus (hotel rooms pending)
  11. Taft is a lawyer?! :-o Another low mark for that profession.
  12. Being National Geographic, I'm sure there's a spatial component.
  13. I have heard that the sign was taken down. :-(

I hope it hasn't changed in 40 years. (Postmarks photo taken back in 1968) You shouldn't had said you enjoy visiting Mt. Gilead in other threads then. :-D :-P

Since I'm not planning on visiting my parents, in Morrow County, anytime soon, I nominate PresOhio to go photograph the Mt. Gilead Post Office.
  17. Y ou kind of have to admire a devious mind that will go to great lengths to pull a practical joke on an entire city. I'm referring to a fake (but very official-looking) sign attached to an authentic Michigan Department of Transportation post on southbound Interstate 75 at the Oakland/Wayne county line. The green and white sign reads "Welcome to Detroit … We Hope You Survive." I was tipped off to the sign via e-mail from sharp-eyed reader Robert Paxton. It sounded intriguing so I hit I-75 after work on Wednesday and found the sign just where Paxton said it would be. There's no telling who put up the sign but they obviously put a lot of time and effort into it. Though made of plywood it looks very official from a distance and the designer took great care with the green-on-white lettering. After crafting the placard, its creator then had to take a chance on getting caught by attaching it to a real MDOT sign, right under the noses of thousands of passing motorists! I checked the back of the sign to see if the "artist" had left his signature, but it was blank. You have to wonder: Was it there during the Super Bowl to be seen by thousands of out-of-town visitors? Are there similar signs on I-96 and I-94 where drivers cross into Detroit? Who knows? It's just a hunch, but I'm betting that the bogus "Welcome to Detroit … We Hope You Survive" sign will be gone by the end of the day. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060407/OPINION03/604070340/1016/METRO05

I guess an 1,000 mile long line of T-storms (from DC to Alexandria, La) is not cool.

When it's all said and done, send some of that precip down to the gulf coast. Southern Louisiana is in a drought (in spite of the hurricanes).
  20. All the state schools have decided to pursue quality over quanity. That might be part of the problem of these "research institutions" perpitual tutition increases.
  21. I wish you would stop reposting photos you took in 2003 and giving them new titles every 5 months or so. 8-) :-D

I think the duck needs a quote here. :-)
  24. Even after enlarging the photo (finding that link takes a moment) I couldn't read the text on left, and barely on the right. Looks like they took a low dpi photo and turned it into a larger dpi photo. Computers don't like guessing what new pixels should go or be like. :-| (*dpi= dots per inch)

I guess they are expecting Clevelanders (and Cincinnatians) to watch the games on Fox Sports (cable) instead of listening on radio. Not that you pick up either flagship radio station for the Blue Jackets outside 20 miles from Nationwide Arena.
