East or West Side of Cleveland
There might be more of a geographic aspect to these splits, due to the orientation of the community/county leading to the time and distance one would need to travel from one area to another. Beside Cleveland/Cuyahoga, doesn't Cincy/Hamilton Co also have a east/west split to it? Where as I think of Columbus/Franklin Co as having more of a subtle North/South split to it (I never thought much about going from Hilliard to Reynoldsburg and vice versa, but rarely did I go south of German Village)

East or West Side of Cleveland
I'm far southside today (and have been for since 1982). :-D But my father's side of the family is all east side (uncles live in East Cleveland) Even on my Cleveland photo pages, beside Edgewater Park and Hopkins, everything else is eastside.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
To replace Coco Crisp, The Indians trade Arthur Rhodes to the Fightin' Phils for CF Jason Michaels. Reaction in Philadelphia is mixed (some thought Micheals was a bum, so good riddence, some aren't crazy about GM Pat Gillick going geriatric with the relief corps by adding Rhodes, and others are hopeful)

What city do you represent?

Delaware County: Developments and News
Magyar replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'm pretty sure there's a thread somewhere on this (or I just could be dreaming from reading on this in Delaware paper, when I'm in Delaware) Columbus's 1973 plans had a merging of Sawmill and Liberty Rd (north of Home Rd) Delaware Co. 1985/6 plans did show Sawmill Rd being extended from Powell to Delaware.

Post Hurricane Louisiana (Lake Charles/New Orleans)
I've been waiting for you to reply to one of my posts (be it about Louisiana or Ohio), since you showed up. :-) I've been in Baton Rouge since August '04 and enrolled at LSU since that time as well. I was an (unofficial) LSU function Saturday night and was reliving my experiences about Katrina with several students and teachers. (I had started the Friday before Katrina on a LSU field trip Come Saturday morning, the nightmare scenario, for Louisiana, was starting to come true. Our group had to make plans to evacuate the coast for Baton Rouge (which we did). Saying I was in Louisiana when Katriana/Rita hit is a great ice breaker for conversing with strangers (outside of Louisiana). As soon as the other person(s) take pity on me, I ask them to save it for someone more deserving for me, because I was in Baton Rouge. I lost nothing but sleep and 4 days of vay-cay from LSU. Those in St. Bernard, St. Tammany, Plaquemines, Orleans, (and lest we forget...) Cameron, and Calcasieu (STILL!) need pity/help, and some good leaders. I think casinos are in Mississippi's plans. I haven't heard anything about casinos in New Orleans (Naggin's idea, right?) since November at the latest. So I got to see live and in person when I attended one of the "Bring Back New Orleans Commission" final report readings. Poor New Orleans, it's like a grandmother being pulled in 20 different directions by kids who won't share with one another. It is something that these urban planners/experts (who have never spent any time in New Orleans) have missed. I am truly torn between the logic of a "smaller footprint" of New Orleans vs the "populist ideal" of everyone coming back to New Orleans. And the politicians have ruined those two positions as well. :-( To quote Tom Petty, "The Waa...aaating is the hardest part." (and except for those doing historical research, everything else feels like it's in a holding pattern. And it's driving us (still in Louisiana) crazy)

Cincinnati's American Sign Museum *Photos*
I visited the Sign Museum, with some friends, in January '05. Interesting place. BTW, Monte, did you pick up one of their "I (heart) Signs" buttons?

Furniture in Columbus
Whatever happened to "hand me downs?" (and no, that is not a store)

Ohio's Tallest Structures (Youngstown #1?)
I remember WCOM. Of course, living in Morrow County made it easier to pick up their signal than if we lived in Columbus. I remember some news coverage about pilots being concerned about the tower still standing after the station went off the air. People were concerned about the pilots still working if there was no impetuous for maintenance of the tower.

Downtowns and their affect.
So Cleveland would equal....Orwell? Columbus = Ashley? If you take away what makes a city a city, then it becomes a small town and that's a completely different animal.

Cleveland Barons Discussion
I'm the only one in my family who isn't a die-hard hockey fan. My younger brothers and my dad follow the Red Wings (and to some extent the Canadians as well) with as much passion as I do towards the Philadelphia Eagles & Phillies.

Origin of your Screen Name?
Great. Now did you read all the other posts in this thread (so you can learn more about us)?

Origin of your Screen Name?
I remember you working for WCMH back in the 1990s.

Favorite Local Radio Station
I need add another station to my list; WWOZ (90.7 FM) New Orleans (They go under honorable mention, in post-katrina world)

"Come Home to Cleveland" - poster/postcard competition!
OK, so that can be Columbus's marketing ploy instead. :-D

What is your favorite CD?
I guess my favorite CD is the last I played. New Adventures in Hi-Fi by REM (side note, I can't believe it's been 10 years since REM put out a good record) My newest project, to keep me from working on my thesis, is converting my cassette collection to digital. I only have 150 cassettes (radio collections and store boughts) to go through :-o (actually 15 down, 135 more to go)

"Come Home to Cleveland" - poster/postcard competition!
Well then I prefer May Day's version with my eyes doing a "loop" versus your version where my eyes are moving in a "N" formation. Plus the color (but that could be more symptomatic to viewing this on monitor/TV screen instead of actual print)

Land-use ruling may decide fate of wetlands
Exactly!

Land-use ruling may decide fate of wetlands
Either our wetlands destruction isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be, or the writer never heard of a place called LOUISIANA Of course, down here, wetlands restoration has moved up the totem pole of importance behind levees, homes, and jobs in our post-katrina/rita world.

Return of...Stupid Photoshop tricks
I should go to bed, but I got a cold (or something in my chest that doesn't belong there) that's making sleep hard to come by. :x So I'm playing with my computer, to be more precise, Photoshop. I've upgraded to version 6 (which was released....5 years ago?) Original Photo: (Church along Tulane Ave. [aka US 61] in New Orleans [taken same time and location as that abandon street shot in my hurricane thread from the other day]) Photoshop versions:

Surfing in Cleveland
It doesn't happen every year, but it happens enough that it isn't rare (unlike Lake Superior which does rarely freeze over) More like on average of once every 2-3 years. The Snowbelt (east of Cleveland) stops receiving snow when Lake Erie freezes over (because there is no moisture to brought on shore)

General Roads & Highway Discussion (History, etc)
ODOT built a 4 lane spur for Oh 13 from I-71 north to the city limits. (it was once upon a time to have been part of a arterial road from Mansfield to Mt. Vernon to Newark to I-70). That 4 lane section from I-71 to the Mansfield city limits and the Fredericksburg bypass were the only parts built.

General Roads & Highway Discussion (History, etc)
I thought I read that ODOT was going to build a "by-pass" of Plain City for US 42 a year or two ago. Basically they were just going to build a new two lane road that went around Plain City's CBD to the north and west. I drove though Plain City on my way back to Louisiana and surprised to find the by-pass wasn't built yet (this would reroute truck traffic out of the CBD, which wasn't designed for 18 wheelers)
