    Death to the Deathstar
  2. ^^^ Concerning the history of that location, there were two articles written about the 'Linco station' back in 2002 for the Delaware Gazette. I originally transcribed these articles for the Delaware County Historical Society back in 2011.

If that is the case, you should apply to be a security guard at the Franklin County Courthouse then.
  4. Isn't that the 3rd or 4th proposal for that corner that has died and gone to 'file cabinet' heaven in the last decade plus? May the ghost of the Clinton Theater haunt that parcel for a century.
  5. For about a week or two, when I go to visit this site, via Google Chrome, all I get is a black screen. No text, no hyperlink spots, no nothing but a black screen. Anyone else having the same, or similar issues? FWIW, around the same time as I was having problems with this site, I lost contact with my old website (roadfan.com) and been having issues accessing my online bank account. I use a Toshiba Satellite C55, Windows 10, and McAfee LiveSafe. (I'm currently using some version of Internet Explorer to view UrbanOhio and post here)

I guess Jake has gotten bored with this topic. Anyways, the following seeped its way into my intermittent FB newsfeed over the weekend. https://www.thenation.com/article/why-is-college-so-expensive-if-professors-are-paid-so-little/
  7. 13 years later, where are you hiding the bodies? :-P
  8. ColDay is back? I thought he left this place.

If you do facebook, you can check the photos in "You know you're from Delaware, OH when..." and the FB page "Vintage Columbus."
  10. First McDonalds was on N. High, just north of 4th Avenue https://goo.gl/maps/3zeoMMJvkUm Or was it at N. High & Morse, at what is now a Tee Jays? https://goo.gl/maps/umuQqtxURnS2
  11. Someone I know is going to lead a tour of "the historic, endangered, and innovative retail sights around Columbus." (his words, not mine) This will occur on Sunday, October 1 and start at York Steak House on W. Broad St (near Westland Mall) and will include visits to several former hardware, grocery, and mall stores. The host, Nik Nolan, has an event page on Facebook if you are interested in contacting him https://www.facebook.com/events/439579009744398/?active_tab=about

Meh. Marc & I were following other road related sites (Pahighways, gribblenation, aaroads, Steve Anderson's New York City, Philly, and Boston sites) I don't think we had any more or less imagination than those other sites I mentioned above.

What brought me here? I was seeing redirects from my website's (www.roadfan.com) stats leading back to this website back in 2003. I showed up ask what for, and was asked to stay for four or five years (2003-2007/8). Then I lost interest and occasionally visited over the last decade.
  16. There is a good reason why there is only pasture there around Olentangy River Rd & West North Broadway. 1939 was when North Broadway was first extended across the Olentangy River. http://bridgehunter.com/oh/franklin/bh59912/

Handicapping the Ohio Governor's race (actually these are John K. Hartman's ratings, from the 'Columbus Free Press') http://columbusfreepress.com/article/columbusmediainsider-perfect-tv-ad-kasich-runs-ohio-ditch OHIO GOVERNOR DEMOCRAT 1. Ex-State Rep. Connie Pillich. Gave best speech at Ohio Democratic Party Legacy Dinner. Spoke from the heart without notes. 2. Ex-U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton. Gave second best speech. Spoke from heart with some notes. 3. State Sen. Joe Schiavoni. Read speech. Not ready for prime time. 4. Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley. Showed high energy hosting hospitality room before speech. 5. Ex-U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich. The onetime "Boy Mayor" of Cleveland is touring Ohio taking the overfunded, under-educating charter schools to the woodshed. 6. Richard Cordray. Fading into oblivion. If runs, should be for attorney general. OHIO GOVERNOR REPUBLICAN 1. Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor. If Kasich quits to return to Fox News, she becomes incumbent and front-runner. 2. U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci. Trump's favorite. 3. AG Mike DeWine. Epic fail. No arrests in Piketon Massacre a year later. 4. SOS Jon Husted. May be plotting run for U.S. Senate instead. 5. J.D. Vance. Gave a big speech last month to Toledo Republicans. Also may be plotting run for U.S. Senate.

Last time the majority of Delaware Co. voted democrat, slavery was still legal (1856). Otherwise, because they're going by raw vote totals not percentages, the choreograph makes Delaware look "more blue" than it really is/was. Delaware County population has nearly tripled from 1980 (68K) to 2010 (198K), so that will skew any graph designed the way JB Columbus 81 did.
  20. And like Raising Cane, Walk Ons started in Baton Rouge. (By a couple of 'Bros who walked on LSU's basketball team back in the 90s) before Drew Brees got interested. http://www.franchisetimes.com/September-2016/Saints-QB-Drew-Brees-suits-up-for-his-next-franchise-gig/#.V8cwHzPC-CM.facebook
  21. The Dinkey and The Interurban in Delaware An Exhibit of the Delaware County Historical Society at The Meeker Homestead Museum on Sundays 2pm – 5pm The people of Delaware County have always been on the move. At first, on foot, on horseback, on buggies, and wagons. Later moving by stage coach, on bicycle, and on Trains. Then came Street Cars and the Interurban. Delaware had railroads since the 1850’s, for hauling freight and passengers to across the country. Local transportation, however, was strictly horse and buggy. Just before the turn of the century it would take 16 hours to travel by stage coach from Columbus to Delaware and not a very pleasant trip. In 1892, The City of Delaware introduced an electric railway passenger service providing a good portion of the City with the Streetcars, some called them “Dinkeys”. In 1903, Delaware gained an accessible transportation line to Columbus and Marion called Columbus, Delaware & Marion Railway (C.D. & M.), an electrically run Interurban rail line. Come visit an exciting era in the growth of Central Ohio through display photographs, newspaper articles, and other archived items from the Delaware County Historical Society’s collection along with additional loaned artifacts. Some of the exhibit items have not been seen for nearly 100 years. Step into a very progressive time-period, for the country and for Delaware County. This is important time, worthy of a visit to understand how Delaware City and County developed. The Meeker Homestead Museum is located at 2690 Stratford Road, Delaware near the intersection of US 23, SR 315 and the recently constructed access road Meeker Way (Map and Directions). Admission to the museum is free, but a donation of $5 to support operating costs is suggested. Docents will be available to lead guided tours and answer questions. www.delawareohiohistory.org

This would of been C-bus 2003 or '04 (not 06). To my recollection, the first Urbanohio meetup. :police:

  25. More likely, they are satellite internet or 3G/4G mobile hotspots over dialup. Mind you, Morrow-Delaware Electric Co-op has been promising us (out here in the hinderland) high-speed internet/cable access for five years and they've yet to lay, or string, any cable along our road yet.
