Cleveland: Innerbelt News
Evidently ODOT is spending money on "hot looking employees" instead of "hot looking infistructure" in Cleveland, as compared to the opposite in the rest of the state (Toledo and Columbus in particular)

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
Of course you don't mention all the non transportation uses for petro. Oil was used in the production of your computer, your clothes, your trains, probally cigarettes too, anything plastic has oil in it. Now we can debate convience/better living through better chemistry vs. the environment (since plastics are almost non-biodegradable sitting in landfills), but there is a good reason why there are subsidies for petroluem instead of paying at the pump for our entire(!) lifestyle (of course if that would happen, then our economic house-of-cards would fall down and a solid recession (at least) would follow).

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
So have we abandoned diesal for coal burning steam engines? And that electric current used to run passenger service has to come from somewhere. So unless you're using nuclear power or some alternative turbine turning source, something has to be burned to produce the steam turning the turnbines at your local power generating plant. As for 16 year old DUIs. They can just as easily park their SUV in front of a train (just like in So Cal last month). Or make sure someone is maintaining that track so trains just don't fall over for no reason. While I don't care for Bush's budget proposals (Amtrak should get funding), I don't care for people advocating how infallable trains/mass transit is either. If it was that damn good, it wouldn't been on life support for the last 40 years!

Random Ohio Sports Talk
It's not Ohio sports related but..... any opinions on the Super Bowl? (the game, not the ads) As a devout Eagles fan ( :shoot: thanks Art Modell), I was disapointed that the Eagles lost, but I can walk away knowing the better team won, but that the Eagles (at least the offense) could of done more....and win. Such is life when you aren't on the winning side I suppose. :-(

Columbus: OSU / University Area Developments and News
Magyar replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionODOT has nothing to do with sidewalks and street width at Polaris. Oh 750 was extended to I-71 after Columbus and Delaware County completed financing the construction of the road (Now ODOT is resposible for upkeep of Polaris Pkwy/Powell Rd from I-71 west) Feel free to check the Dispatch archives on this. As for the new interchange helping or not helping, we'll see. If it can keep traffic from 71 NB to Polaris/Powell/750 WB freeflowing then it's a success. If not? Someone will ask for a do over.

Where do you live?
I find there's a better neighborhood feel in urban neighborhoods like the Gold Coast, Little Italy, Ohio City etc etc. I know the first and last names of all my neighbors, can walk to everything in 15 minutes or less (see my post in this section) and I never have to shovel the snow or mow the lawn at my condo. There are sidewalk cafes for impromtu social meets, a wide variety of people and cultures, plus more varied architecture. And, it's safer to bike on side streets in the urban grid than on those wide suburban roads with so much traffic, seas of parking lots, cul de sacs and separated land uses. Actually, I'm surprised there are some here who are so devoted to suburbs (OK, I understand the old inner-ring suburbs but not the exurban homogeny) given this forum's name and content. I even understand having your home in the suburbs while keeping your heart in the city, but not both in the suburbs, and still want to visit this site. That would be like me being a frequent visitor to the farm bureau forum (is there one?). Can someone explain this to me? KJP Different strokes for different folks. Given my drothers, I prefer a town house or garden apartment so that I don't have anyone living above or below me. And a yard just gives you a buffer from your neighbors, both good and bad.

Cleveland: Innerbelt News
I was the one asking about the Central Viaduct. Thanks for the photos on that and of the Clark Ave bridge (I have some photos, I took in July, of the support columns for the Clark Ave viaduct that will get online....someday).

Thank you Summit.

Cleveland: Innerbelt News
Anyone have any photos of the old Central Viaduct (that used to run near where the present day innerbelt is)? Otherwise there's a multitude of cable designs and bridge designs out there. You could probally spend a whole day looking at bridges via google.

Cincinnati: Procter & Gamble
It's probably the most ironic thing of all if you really think about both legacies. That and Roosevelt publicly saying, at the time, that he thought Taft didn't go far enough (thus Teddy ran for president in 1912, spliting the Republican ticket with Taft and allowing Wilson to win that election in blowout) And to RiverViewer, my understanding is that Taft really wasn't much of a personality (not Calvin Cooledge dull, but not memerable either). Someone from Cincinnati is more likely to make a name for him/herself doing a mega-bio of Taft, than one of the established writers taking this project on.

Where do you live?
A bandbox apartment consisting of a bedroom, study (technically 2nd bedroom), living room with cutout 1/3 rooms for the bathroom and kitchen. All whitewashed cinderblock walls. I live within 1,000 yds from all of LSU's sport facilities, and walk 10-15 minutes to all my classes. I still drive (due to proximity and situation) to the stores (5-6 miles) or to DT Baton Rouge (which is a rare occasion).

Ohio Education / School Funding Discussion
That is asuming that a school district is contained to one county. That is not the case in Ohio. My Alma Mater had students from 4(!) counties.
