What's your avatar?
Mine is a photoshoped photo I took of the Columbus skyline from I-670 between 315 and Neil, from, I think, 3 years ago (so yes, the road wasn't opened then). I was going to have it used as the cover art for Best of Columbus Blues, Vol 2, but I had to step out of that project when I left Columbus for Baton Rouge with the project, at that time, still spinning its wheels. Volume 2 is now out www.columbusblues.com/store.htm (second from top), and some other artwork was chosen and this is what I have to remember it by.

The Five Ohios
Is the numbering based on the alphabet (Adams - 01...Wood - 88) or order of creation (Washington -01....Noble - 88)?

Columbus: Downtown: Highpoint / Columbus Commons
Plus the fact it was called Capital South from the 70s till the mid 80s. There is alot of (failed) history tied up in that location. Anyone remember the ice rink down there?

Random Ohio Sports Talk
Well, LSU (sort of) got it's act together. They seem much crisper with their ball handling, but their defense came and went (same with Ohio State). Thought it was funny watch people leaving when OSU was up by 3 with 16 seconds left in regulation. I turned to the people behind me ask why these other people were leaving, LSU still had a chance. We've become a nation of front runners, or too many people who don't care about sports go to sporting events. Anyways, it was a good game (other than the refs giving 95% of all the calls to OSU), but Ohio State had nothing left in their tank for the 2nd OT.

New topic time. If anyone here cares, Ohio State is going against Louisiana State tonight here in Baton Rouge. I will be attending the game (because LSU has instituted that ALL students can get in for "free") and representing for OSU (because I have OSU t-shirts and nothing mentioning LSU yet). From what I saw of LSU's basketball team back in December (before I came back to Ohio for the holidays), they give up too many offensive rebounds to their opponents and are sloppy ball handlers. OSU does have a chance tonight.

Magyar replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAnd while I'm at it..... Has anyone from the OSU contingent here taken an Urban (insert OSU major of choice) class? And if not, I do highly recomend taking one! P.S. thanks for thinking of an OSU meet [glow=red,2,300]after[/glow] I left C-bus for Baton Rouge for Winter/Spring.

CVG: Delta and Comair news
No problem here either (even after my grousing/rant with you about E. Broad St) I didn't realize all the "subsidies" concerning the airliners (though I supose airports could be debated as a subsidy or as a public building.
-
CVG: Delta and Comair news
I thought Jimmy Carter deregulized airliners. As to the subsidies, I thought they were needed (after 9/11) or else there would be no airlines (they all be bankrupt) Someday, we'll finally decide what we want.

Columbus: Broad Street Median
Let's see here, we can have... Children playing in the medium of Broad St. or trains in the medium of Broad St. Apreciate the concern, but understand the geography, demographics, and history before trying to ram your square peg through our round hole concerning this project.

Origin of your Screen Name?
Magyar comes from my nationality (I'm actually Hungarian, Irish (<Dad), Scotish, Norwegian (<Mom)). Though that's not the reason I started using it. I was using variations of Magyar on several other boards (Magyar Geography Prez and Magyar Blue, both concern my activities at OSU back at that time) at the time I joined here. I guess I could always junk Magyar for actual name, Sandor and teach all of you as to how to correctly pronounce it (SHAWN-dor). 8-)

Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame
700 WLW listerners (hell, people in general) are mostly morons. They probably believe that the area between the stadiums was planned to remain surface parking for their suburban-ass benefit. Hey! I resent that! :-p (I was listening to WLW yesterday as I drove through Cincy rush-hour traffice on my way to Marengo, i.e. home)

What Cleveland suburbs have the best downtowns?
Aren't downtowns and suburbs oxymorons around here?

Columbus neighborhood: Franklinton
You are represented by either a township or a city, not both. That's why cities (even Columbus) have to go to the county concerning annexations. Now, I am not as certain concerning the division of powers between cities and county gov'ts.
-
Columbus neighborhood: Franklinton
Franklin Twp. is part of Franklin Co, but is not part of Columbus. Land that is incorporated in Ohio cannot be under the jurisdiction of townships.
-
Columbus neighborhood: Franklinton
I believe the Coop is considered within Franklinton. I don't know of any other neighborhood it would be under consideration for.

Columbus: Milo-Grogan Developments and News
I won't be neutral and wait on this. Solove doesn't need to take out any houses to redevelop the Timken plant. He has Plenty(!) of room "over there." The idea he wants to take out 200 houses sounds to me like he wants to rid of low income housing so rich folks & yuppies will come shop at his new mall, or whatever he wants to build there. :shoot: As is, this is a dangerous proposal.

Columbus Blue Jackets Discussion
Mind you, till cable ruled the airwaves, Columbus stations (WCMH and then later WTTE) would always show Reds games. I can only recall one year, 1987, that Indian games were shown in Columbus. Historicly, Browns games were always shown over Bengals games. Steeler games? Unless they were playing one of the Ohio teams or had the "national game," they weren't shown. Having the Browns taken away in the late 90s screwed up the sport loyalty patterns in Ohio. One more BTW, Once a month in the Sunday Dispatch, readers speak section of the Sports Section, you'll have people complaining about the Dispatch being biased in their coverage of the "other" Ohio teams. It's become more comedic over the years.

Columbus Blue Jackets Discussion
Columbus is a reds/browns town. (or at least they were before Modell pulled the team originally). That was the balance act here. Now as to Columbus support major league sports (other than the Blue Jackets); if you remove Ohio State sports out, sure. But Columbus's place, and this population's intrenched loyalties, would make baseball & footbal set for failure (Maybe basketball as well, but I'm not so sure).
