  1. Yeah, fair enough. No one visiting is looking at the Sam Adams thing and associating it with local brewing culture.
  2. There is a Sam Adams Cincinnati Brewhouse in CVG.

Given the non-union status and flexible operational hierarchy of the Cincinnati Bell Connector, it seems to me that would be a more rational place to start autonomous vehicle development in Ohio. At least any that is publicly backed. (The most obvious place would be the Red Line in Cleveland, if labor rights weren't a concern.) Like @thebillshark says, I just don't see this tech coming into its own for decades to come. But adding tracks into the mix would accelerate that timeline considerably. (It's already been accomplished for tracks with fully dedicated right-of-way.) Curious to see where DeWine goes with the DriveOhio stuff.
  4. Here are a couple UrbanCincy articles about it: http://www.urbancincy.com/2010/10/over-the-rhine-is-not-one-of-the-nations-most-dangerous-neighborhoods/ http://www.urbancincy.com/2009/06/intellectually-dishonest-report-claims-otr-is-nations-most-dangerous-neighborhood/
  5. That "OTR is the most dangerous neighborhood" thing was bunk from the beginning. I forget the details of the methodology, but it was like one census tract with little recorded population being the census tract with the most violent crimes per capita. It wasn't the whole neighborhood, just one corner, and the "per capita" measure isn't a great one in a place which gets a lot of visitors or transients who aren't recorded as residents.

They got one thing right: not recognizing the "8:15". Everyone's at work by then, nowadays!
  7. Clifton Market basically started with a shell. That was one of the things that messed up their finances from the beginning. Missing out on subsidies routinely given to their competition was another factor in that. As long as the neighborhood retains a grocery store, I would imagine the co-op owners will be happy. That's why they voted in such large numbers to make a deal with Singh.

I missed this part where they clarified a bit of what they meant: Apparently the presence of guns was key. Why would that be?

So if they weren't talking about sheriffs/deputies, who were they talking about?

What I'm hearing is they were obviously NOT using the "common colloquialism" in a literal way, at which point one might wonder whether it was being used at all, and if so in what sense. It's really all up to interpretation at that point, and a literal reading of their language creates a very bad look. It's up to prosecutors and the courts to determine whether their "hyperbole" is prosecutable or criminal, just as the severity and criminality of the councilmembers' actions are up to the same.

"In law enforcement, a manhunt is an extensive and thorough search for a wanted and dangerous fugitive involving the use of police units, technology, and help from the public." It's "beyond obvious" THAT'S what they're talking about??
  12. ^^ Such a throwback! I used to hang out with her at the Buzz in the '90s. We used to have to help carry her from the bar by the entrance down into the main area. It's quite a shame they've apparently made the situation worse with their "update".
  13. Development creeping up Vine has paused, probably pending the Kroger closure. But development on Race and Elm, north (and south) of Liberty, is picking up fast.
  14. Oh my, haven't thought about her since...Bill Clinton was elected? But wait, if he is the Paula Poundstone of comedy, what is Paula Poundstone the Paula Poundstone of? Sonic Temple needs to get a hold of PP!!
  15. Just checking to see if anyone remembers who Pauly Shore is. ?
  16. Would be nice if they'd update the course, and maybe hold some all-skill-levels tournaments advertised around campus.
  17. Lol, infrastructure (and land use more broadly) is not some naturally occurring thing. Every decision about it, including maintaining what's there or just letting it sit, is an aesthetic choice that could be construed as having a social engineering component.
  18. Yes, I agree. Gateways and a few developments like the CCAC and a restaurant or something built at the fountain plaza would be great. Updating what's there while keeping overall, forested feel of the park is the way to go. I also agree about the neighborhood NIMBYs being irrationally opposed to positive upgrades. Regarding that hillside @jmecklenborg posted, I think that is near one of the disc golf holes but I'm not 100% since it's been years since I used the course.
  19. Might have to go for Pauly Shore!
  20. I don't think the perception exists for (non-student) Clifton residents like it does for students. I also think the park gets a reasonable amount of use. Maybe not so much by students (aside from parking). It's a nice amenity for anyone who bothers think beyond vague urban legendy stuff. Having more university-oriented events there or pedestrianizing MLK (that ship has sailed for the next couple decades) would be the best ways to shake those perceptions. Once an asset like that is subdivided and sold off, there's no getting it back. Y'all really wanna pave over and build on all those old-growth trees? It's doubtful much of the land is even that stable for development, considering ubiquitous landslide issues in the city.
  21. Being that there was just a bunch of investment into making MLK even more pedestrian-hostile, I feel like the Ludlow Ave. side stands to benefit more from the activity generated by the CCAC development. @jjakucyk refers the the park as "known for being dangerous," but while there's a perception of that, is there any actual data about it? I haven't heard of many incidents, other than people who seem more interested in making love over violence.
  22. It's Burnet, guys. One T! I wasn't going to say anything but then I kept reading it. ?

I would discuss my feelings about TMitHC season 3, but I don't want to give even minor spoilers. I gave up on House of Cards. It jumped the shark a whole back. I'm kind of the opposite: I'm sure I am passing on shows I would like without giving them a fair shake. Partly because I've been burned too many times by watching bad shows, hoping they'd get good again. And partly because there's just an absurd amount of content out there. If something doesn't grab me early and hold on, I just don't have time for it. A show like Black Mirror is really refreshing, where every episode is self-contained. I would expect some eventual backlash against the EPPICCCC series that go on for many seasons. It's a great format when it works, but man is it sad when you find yourself wasting many hours hoping for that fleeting magic to come back. A couple Sundays ago, I found myself at a bar/restaurant that apparently does a Walking Dead viewing night. They usually show sportsball, but that night every TV went to zombies. Not going back there on a Sunday until the season's over, haha. Talk about a show that jumped the shark a long time ago.
  24. It looks like any map following the new rules will make a blue district in SWO.
  25. Applebee's finally hit the skids this decade. Sometimes Americans wake up and realize generic and flavorless sucks. So there may be hope yet that tastes will swing to cities with more than an ounce of flavor.
