  1. We'll have to wait until 2022 to see what the 2020 census says. ACS estimates are interesting, but can be subject to major corrections in census years.
  2. ^ This is correct.
  3. I would so love it if all the parks with refreshment stands were able to reopen them. I remember asking my dad about them when we'd visit parks as a kid. It might have been my first understanding that Cincinnati had a brighter past.
  4. One advantage Blink has over MPMF is that I don't think anyone is trying to make a profit with it. So selling it probably doesn't make any sense.
  5. No one knows or cares about Blink outside of the region. Its a pretty awesome thing you've got, but doubt anyone even from Indy would know about it ;). Even when Cincy does stuff well it undersells itself. To be fair, it has only happened once so far. I believe I saw it mentioned in one or two national publications. I'm not saying all is being done that could be to sell the city (far from it). But it seems like that is something that would have been easy for those championing the status quo to hold back -- something that is really world class, new, and requires public cooperation and approval. It's one thing to say things could & should be done more competently, and another to charge a grand conspiracy to keep people away. Blink was a local event. There were few people from beyond a 60 mile radius. It was BY Cincinnatians FOR Cincinnatians. It definitely has local roots, which is preferable to having some rando east coast org hired to come in and put on a festival. But there were a bunch of artists that came from around the country and internationally. It would be interesting to see data about who came to Blink and where they came from, but making assertions about that without any data isn't helping your point. Regardless, these things grow organically. The event was positively massive, and the next time it happens it will be bigger, due to word of mouth from the million-plus people who were there. I 100% believe this is a world-class event, having spent over a decade living in world cities. Word will spread, more well-known artists will want to take part in it, more word will spread, year after year, so long as the organizers keep putting the event on and don't try to wholly reinvent it (like was done with MPMF).

  7. It seems like FL does a better job of spreading attention to Tampa and Orlando (rather than just top dog Miami) than OH does spreading its attention much farther than the 270 loop.
  8. If the powers that be were trying to thwart attempts to boost tourism, they never would have allowed the Blink festival to happen.
  9. Maybe rename that stretch of McMillan "Puff Puff Pass?"
  10. It's not even a lot of companies. The main one is Thunderdome Group. Maplewood, Eagle, Bakersfield, possibly others (Kreuger's?) have spread from OTR (or CBD in the case of Maplewood) under the Thunderdome umbrella. Taste of Belgium wasn't obvious to me, at all, that the intention was to spread like wildfire. I don't think it's a smart business move for that concept, but then what do I know about the restaurant biz. Senate wasn't obvious that it would spread, either, especially since it was one of the early restaurants to open in the "Gateway Quarter." Lavomatic didn't spread, and basically had the same appearance at first.
  11. How do you art, fellow avant-gardians?
  12. I could see them moving to Charlotte, also.
  13. When you let developers run amok, don't be surprised when Uptown turns into a soulless suburb.
  14. Thanks, taestell[/member]. I was there a couple times when it was still like in your picture. Shame to lose its crafty vibe.
  15. ^^ They redid the intersection, and decided upon....putting the stop bar for bicycles BEHIND the one for cars?!?!?!!!!! wtf

Interesting way to identify the song.
  17. It's bizarre how when a community negotiates in good faith, it's called "extortion," but when the team lies over and over, manufacturing false deadlines and perpetual "emergency" situations to force elected officials to make snap decisions, it's just smart negotiation.
  18. Not again! What are the mayor and city manager at odds with each other about?

^^^ I don't agree with your read, because I think Trump won Ohio in part because he flanked Hillary on the left on some issues, especially trade. I think I've said it before in this thread, but I think Kucinich would stand a good chance of pulling the Obama-to-Trump voters back into the Democratic column. Are these people moderates? Or are the Hillary-voting Democrats who are talking about voting for Dewine if Kucinich is nominated moderates? Point being, I don't think the term "moderate" is useful for framing the electorate in this race.
  20. Ah, you got me before I deleted the post. I looked at it more and see where the active wire goes under the foreground arch.
  21. Cincinnati is really lucky NKY wanted to expand RedBike instead of doing their own thing.
  22. As long as there are vacant buildings, I'd prefer to wait on the infill. As space for development becomes more scarce and property values are higher, you're more likely to get better architecture and ideally taller (within reason) buildings with more residential units or offices.
  23. ^ Fair enough. It's actually pretty cool that there are 5 which are so different from each other.
  24. So many ice cream places in OTR now. Dojo, Graeter's, Buzzed Bull, and soon the Simply Rolled. Hope there are a lot of people with a sweet tooth. Speaking of Buzzed Bull, does anyone have an idea of how they are doing? I was there once and it didn't really excite me enough to go back.
