PKs deciding tie games in the playoff stage are attrocius. Even the NHL moved away from playoff shootouts. It’s a lousy barometer of who is the. better team. It’s almost all luck.

All true. We all just have to tip our cap to the warriors and be THRILLED we got one against them. The sports fan in me is intrigued by what the young talent will do. I will watch for sure. NBA free agents have a reputation for hating Cleveland. Not sure if that's actually true. If it makes you guys feel any better, the Warriors fans I work with are more haunted by the Cavs championship than they are happy for the Warriors three titles. Winning brings talent regardless of the franchise, the Warriors are proving it. Dan sounds like he wants to build this thing the right way. The national media is mocking him about building a champion but who ever thought even eight years ago that the long irrelevant Warriors would be the next NBA dynasty. Koby Altman is the unproven commodity now. His Lakers trade looks pretty poor but it was under the gun in a "WIN NOW" environment and the landscape has changed. Also, who knows how much of the trade was Dan himself. Willing to see where Altman goes from here. Dan deserves some blame. Those post-LeBron Cavs teams were so horrible. I agree but I think the intention was to start over in 2010. Nobody had any idea LBJ would come back. He was dancing on a stage with Wade and Bosh in downtown Miami talking about seven championships. If Lebron had stayed in Miami the Cavs would still have had Irving and Wiggins. Their talent alone would have made the Cavs at least a .500 team in the terrible East by 2015 or 2016. Who knows what would have happened afterward.

I've been watching the Cavs since World B. Free. I'm mean, I might have been their only fan during the Mike Fratello era. :D I'm genuinely curious about what Dan Gilbert will do going forward. He has an ego, he'll spend money and is certainly more entertaining than Gordon Gund ever was. Supposedly free agents will never ever come to Cleveland again. Is this true? Why would I stop watching now? It's not like the Cavs will be serious contenders for a while so I could care less about who the Warriors are picking up.

The NBA isn't irrelevant. It's the second strongest North American sports league in the US behind the NFL. It has a following among the under 21 crowd that's unrivaled by any North American league, including the MLS. It's global reach has grown exponentially over the last two decades. Finals ratings are nearing Jordan-era levels. The NBA is strong and youthful. Games are entertaining and fans are laid back. It's the 21st century league for sure and this dynasty isn't going to change that.

I don’t really buy into rankings. Portugal is 0-2-1 without Ronaldo and out of the WC. Iran and Spain both got robbed Ws against Portugal thanks to dubious officiating.

This is not a Cleveland vs Cincy thing for me. It’s a corrupt FIFA/US Soccer thing. The fact that cities like Chicago and Vancouver walked away speaks volumes about the bidding process. FIFA looks at money first, everything else second. Let’s not kid ourselves.
  8. AmrapinVA replied to Columbo's post in a topic in Sports Talk
You and I have no idea what Cincinnati offered. FIFA and US Soccer makes sure of that. Yet, it's very telling three cities walked out of the 2026 World Cup. Chicago(!) walked. If I had to lay odds, I would say Cincy offered more than most cities in the region. The $11 billion is coming from somewhere.
  9. AmrapinVA replied to Columbo's post in a topic in Sports Talk
FIFA and it's subsidiaries are all about the money. That's why Chicago, Minneapolis and Vancouver walked. It's why the 2026 bidding process was lukewarm. It's hard to beat the "United" bid which is expected to make FIFA $11 billion. If Cleveland offers up enough incentives they would have been considered. It's naive to think it's about atmosphere. Just being honest.

On March 14, 2018 Vancouver, Minneapolis and Chicago all announced that they were dropping out as potential host cities. All three cities cited concerns over the financial transparency of being a host city and cited FIFA's unwillingness to negotiate financial details as reasons for their decisions; the bid committee announced the next day they had reduced the number of cities in the bid to 23. Translation -- Host cities are on the wrong side of the money. Although for mid-tier cities it is a chance to shine on a global scale for a week or two. Morocco had no real bid and yet got 65 votes. FIFA is still a disaster.
  11. There's never going to be a regional airport for SW/Central Ohio, at least not in most of our lifetimes. Same goes for NE Ohio. Not quite sure why this off-topic discussion continues. The subject needs it's own thread.
  12. Yup. I arrived here in Rome Sunday. Arriving Rome on a Sunday wasn't a good idea. Most of the passport controllers don't work on Sunday. It took 90 minutes to get through passport control. We couldn't find our luggage as our flight was no longer displayed on the correct baggage carousel. So we had to find a working airport personnel to find the right carousel. Fortunately our bags were near the top of the pile! So yes, there's always an airport that has it worse than Cleveland. Airport Authorities don’t control Customs staffing. I believe it is handled by a branch of the Italian government/EU.
  13. Is this a function of the FIS facility or was it quick processing due to a single 737? I have a feeling the latter is correct. Something tells me a 777 would bog down the FIS pretty quickly. No excuse for signage to end before all bags are picked up. Who controls the screens? The airport or the airlines?

AmrapinVA[/member] I'm in agreement with most of what you said, but don't FAA regs, in general terms, come into play with anything over 400'? Yes. FAA will also take a special look because Cleveland's CBD is near the Hopkins 24L/R approaches. Will they have an issue? No, unless it's super tall. Cleveland's CBD already has some pretty tall existing structures. The floor of Cleveland's Class B airspace over downtown is 2,200 feet MSL, which is approximately 1500 feet AGL. Should any mega tower be built, ATC would continue to route the inbound traffic the same way, which is typically just to the north of the shoreline. This is all true. The agency would just study the lateral approach distance of Burj Cleveland/Progressive/Sherwin Williams. :) I guess when I said "clear" a building earlier it sounded like I was talking vertical but I meant they study all angles in case of an aircraft malfunction on approach. The 24L/R approaches are close enough to the CBD for agency concern.

For most of the CBD the FAA will not have an issue unless we're talking the tallest Dubai level heights. Even then I think aircraft could clear a super tall building on the 24L/R approaches to Hopkins. The immediate lakefront north of the Shoreway would have FAA issues due to Burke. Of course, post 9/11, if a developer builds a signature building that is head and shoulders above all the others in Cleveland there may be a concern about terrorism.

Las Vegas vs Tampa Bay is about as bad as it gets for the NHL for me. Just fold half the Canadian cities and make it like the other three big North American sport leagues. Almost feels like Canada should start over with a new hockey league. The NBA has four teams in the conference finals which are so much more intriguing than what even expansion Vegas has to offer. Even a Cavs/GS IV Finals will blow the Stanley Cup out of the water in terms of ratings.
  18. Are there still strip clubs on Brookpark between Engle and W 150th? Even if not, I would go elsewhere for a cheap hotel
  19. McDs seems to do a monster business where I live in the inner ring of DC burbs. One BK closed for an apartment complex in Falls Church but nothing else has really shut down in my area. Also I’d argue some fast casual places aren’t better qualify or all that fast either although they are more expensive. The wave of new fast causal seems to be slowing down or maybe it’s me.
  20. London Heathrow and Paris were at CLE for a hot minute. Cleveland had London Gatwick service for several years.

I guess I would ask why Game 1 was an outlier? They all count. TBH, 98 isn't going to cut it against the Raptors either. No matter how the Cavs play on defense it's hard to believe Toronto will not have at least 2 games of 110+ if it were to go seven. That's two automatic Ls if the Cavs offensive numbers don't improve. Raptors have scored 114, 130, 122, 98, 108 against the Wizards. That being said, they've let the Wizards shoot well which is why it's a 3-2 series. Cavs need more offense and play lock down defense to get to the ECF. Kevin Love somehow needs to show up on offense. Of course they need to take care of business with Indiana first.
  22. AmrapinVA replied to a post in a topic in Sports Talk
The Cavs can't average 93 PPG against the Raptors. They will lose the Toronto series regardless of Lowry and Co.'s mental blocks. Especially true with Toronto getting four home games. If they can raise their offensive average by 10 points and extend this playoff lock down defense they have an excellent chance of getting the Finals. We'll see.
  23. AmrapinVA replied to a post in a topic in Sports Talk
If the Cavs are going to average 90-95PPG in the playoffs they won't make it past Toronto if they close this series. Something has to change. Toronto is 37-7 at home if you include the playoffs. I don't see the Raptors slugging it out to a 92-88 kind of game every night especially at Air Canada Centre. In fairness though the Cavs have figured out something defensively. They let the Pacers average 108PPG in the regular season. Indy's highest scoring game so far in this series is 100.
  24. Most other airports had a glut of parking even way before ride-sharing, CLE is currently not in this situation especially after the long-term garage was torn down. They can jack rates up but they have to be careful with CAK being in the region. CPE is lower there and if the passenger experience becomes substantially better at CAK, the ULCCs could move. It's threading the needle.

Korver had a good game. I agree about everyone else. Love had a so-so game 15pts+8rebs but that was over 34 minutes. He has to produce more. I also know he was hurt a bit after the three point foul when he landed on his ankle funny. Those deadline aquisitions look pretty bad in the postseason so far.
