I agree. I remember the Pistons series in 2016. I believe it was the lowest point differential for a 4-0 sweep in NBA history. That series was a few Pistons bad breaks (and Andre Drummond free throws) away from being 2-2. I don't think the Cavs will average 90 PPG for the entire series. They will score more.
  2. The airport clearly needs more parking. Almost everyone using it is now either arriving or departing from Cleveland. It's not complex. I'm hoping the money is being used to find a feasible site but who knows. The city tore down the long-term garage as United walked. The other idea is to accommodate additional mass transit within the terminal. Not quite sure how it would be done. Of course the "new" master plan will only last as long as Kennedy is there. Once he walks there will be a new administrator with another idea. One step forward, two steps back.
  3. The Allegiant story was pointless and will have zero effect on their growth in the long term. A ULCC cutting costs so they can sell tickets at $49/flight? OMG. What's way more disturbing are GE engines and this repeated occurrence of uncontrolled failures. I feel so bad for the person who died today. What a horrific way to go.
  4. Was Paris smarter? Segregation in Paris is so bad now it led to riots not so long ago. Their north suburbs have housing projects that could be dropped into Queens or the Bronx and fit right in. Paris is romanticized by too many tourists. DC and Barcelona too.
  5. Paris or DC can’t be the standard for much larger and faster growing urban areas like Manila or Shanghai. Future major cities are on a growth trajectory never seen before. Five-story buildings aren’t going to cut it for a city that will be at 40 million in a few decades. The death of the skyscraper isn’t happening globally. Skyscraper construction is accelerating at an incredible speed in East/South Asia and parts of the Middle East. Even lower income cities like Karachi and Mumbai are seeing a boom. Or are we strictly talking about the Midwest here? That’s a whole different case where capping makes sense.
  6. Cost per enplanement at CLE is fairly reasonable if you are not United Airlines, averaging about $9 (according to a cleveland.com article from back in February). The new carriers will come if they smell an opportunity for profit (why else would the budget carriers migrate much of their flying to CLE from CAK (which has a very low cost per enplaned passenger)). However, I don't see Burke as a big profit generator in any circumstance. At the end of the day, they'll just have to do a cost benefit analysis and see what usage of Burke generates the most profit (or conversely results in the smallest loss). I doubt other considerations are even close in the minds of city hall. You can't pretend UA dosen't exist. CPE is almost $20 on average. Pretty high for the infrastructure CLE has. Anyway, I don't know anything about Burke and I don't believe you do either. It's all fun speculation.
  7. It might be underutilized but if the city is charging exorbitant landing fees and bringing in cash it may not be a concern to city leaders. Hopkins has higher landing fees than most US mid-sized airports which can prevent carriers from starting new services. They've come down a bit recently yet aren't near the level of other of most mid-sized nearby airports. I don't know if Burke's landing fees have led to a decline in ops but wouldn't be surprised if it's the same situation. I know there were security concerns for private airports after 9/11. Why I'm not a big fan of what Scene did here: using pre-9/11 statistics as a comparison to what is happening now for private aviation. Dynamics have changed quite a bit.
  8. This lakefront parcel is so large it's hard to believe some, if not most, of it would become parkland. I just don't see the Hong Kong waterfront rising from Burke. I get we're joking around but I'm not quite sure why Metroparks operating a large lakefront park is such a crazy idea, especially after Edgewater's transformation. Do we prefer the city of Cleveland to operate a lakefront park?
  9. Look at how the city wants to use the land right around Burke: zoning an outlet mall which belongs in Streetsboro. No guarantee with Burke closed this will become some urban nirvana or even a well-kept park. If some of the land were to become a park I think Metroparks has to play a role.
  10. Where is this from? It's not accurate. It shows Icelandair as year round from Orlando. They don't operate that route from Jun. 12th to Aug. 31st. I know first hand the traffic flow on that route is all one way to Mickeyland in order for Icelanders to escape those long, dark subarctic winters.
  11. ...especially on the major corridors north of Snow Rd. State could be something special all the way to Grantwood. Ridge to Parma Circle. City planners have zero vision. Nothing says this more than the Parma Theater debacle that let to another suburban looking CVS. Also City Hall was built next to Parmatown and the pols will always see it as the city "center". It would make so much sense to just consolidate Parma, Parma Heights and Seven Hills from a logistical and geographical standpoint. Meh, I can go on... I disagree with consolidation, but agree with you on all other counts. Parma's crony politics has led to the 7th largest city in the state functioning without a f***ing city charter. It's beyond frustrating. Consolidation is unattainable due to Parma. Additionally, consolidation would effectively make the new city = 135,000 inhabitants Nonetheless, there are strips of State and Ridge that have INCREDIBLE bones. There is a walkable streetscape and affordable housing, less than a 5 minute drive from 480 and within 3 miles of a major hospital. The lack of vision is nauseating. HA..good point. I forgot about the city charter issue.

  13. Amazing Parma city govt. found a use for all those unused parking lots. I'm assuming the main Pitt Ohio entrance will be on Chevy Blvd.? It's nice that the company is helping PCSD. Hopefully the school board can get their heads of their ***es and actually improve the system. Not holding my breath though.
  14. If you're looking for cheap just look up Frontier/Spirit/Allegiant deals. They all go to the US sun destinations in the fall. One of those three will have very cheap direct flights this far out. If you have a large group you might think about booking with the airline directly to get a decent group rate including Southwest. UA/DL/AA offer group rates as well but if you don't want to connect your options will be limited.
  15. No, not sensitive, I'm really busy. I think a made the point already. Feel free to disagree.
  16. OK. I'm too busy for this. You win. Frontier cutting their operation by 1/3 will have no impact on passenger totals at Hopkins.
  17. Are you just trying to argue? I don't understand this.
  18. Right for one month....he's talking yearly. Five months...that's 250K out the window. That means he's predicting growth of roughly 750K. That's not a small number. Austin is down to 2x weekly on Frontier. Even with Miami, it's not covering those losses.
  19. F9’s July schedule is 8 flights, last July was 12.5 flights. That equates to almost 50,000 less departing and arriving seats. Just sayin'. All those load factors you mention are now 0 percent for Frontier this summer. Not quite sure why you want to debate over this? I was actually making a positive statement originally. I think there may be more expansion from other carriers in the cards.
  20. OK. Why? It's a decent cut and Frontier became a decent sized operation last summer. Who's going to replace that service currently?
  21. This caught my eye: Kennedy has said he expects an additional 500,000 passengers will use the airport in 2018, and by 2019 that traffic could eclipse 10 million passengers. Frontier is pulling back pretty significantly. Even with Icelandics/Delta/AA adds it's hard to envision that type of growth this year unless he knows something we don't. Since he's been pretty spot on with his "predicitions" so far, it makes me wonder if additional service is coming sooner than later. It would have to be a decent amount to cover Frontier losses and add another half million passengers.
  22. FIS facility is poor.
  23. I doubt it... they seem OK with letting their FF base whittle itself down (much like their CLE based crew and whatnot seem to be getting whittled down via attrition). In the end, they will be just another carrier in CLE without any distinction other than having formerly had a hub operation here (twice). I think you are right and I'm sensing AA is finding this out as well hence the increase in service. I even think DL's Salt Lake City flight is a bit in response to UA slowly unwinding CLE although it's part of broader expansion (DL recently started PIT-SLC). I still think UA might respond a bit only because they are on the hook for D for another decade and this isn't Spirit or Frontier who don't really carry people that are legacy FFs. UA hasn't dropped Milwaukee yet despite Southwest throwing two 737s on that route so they are willing to defend some turf. We'll just have to see.
  24. The AA adds feel more like a shot at UA more than any service to London. I think they're smelling blood in the water and would like nothing more than to eat away at UAs large FF base in Greater Cleveland. Will UA respond?
  25. Hope it's not further cuts. I think the next level down will be service to UA hubs only. One possibility could be they are transferring positions to a contractor. I believe the last union agreement with ground handlers removed Cleveland from the list of stations where they could only hire/transfer employees through United. We'll see.
