  1. Burke Lakefront generates an annual net operating loss of $1.2M. If closed, most of its $76M in economic impact will remain in the area. CLE has plenty of capacity, and CAK is just 51 miles away, being fully capable as a reliever airport. Corporate aircraft and private pilots don't need 400 acres of prime lakefront.
  2. Love the wood brick. I've never seen them before but they look really cool.
  3. Would be cool to have more live music in Cleveland, especially since it's the home of the R&RHOF. And a large park replacing CBS would be a great seasonal venue for hosting concerts.
  4. And how about placing a new soccer stadium on Burke land, too.
  5. Sorta like Cleveland Clinic gutting their nearby urban fabric in current times? I was around OC in the early 80s and the 'dozens of acres of dense urban fabric' were not dense. Dilapidated and decaying urban blight is a fairer description I don't begrudge either institution for their growth and contributions to their neighborhoods.
  6. Haslam's money = Haslam's decision...I'm totally good with them spending their money in Brook Park. Let the city, county and state channel taxpayer dollars to the landbridge and economic growth initiatives.
  7. ^^I didn't understand @chrino21's post at first. Upon taking a closer look, I think their intent is to make an analogy between this structure on the the pier and the new S-W tower. The rooflines have similarities. Going further, they make a second analogy between the pictured ice machine and the Paint Museum (S-W project). Or not.
  8. This is misleading and false data, and contributes to the reason some see an enclosed stadium as an expense and not an investment. In fact Lucas Oil Stadium is a very busy place according to Inside Indiana Business: Lucas Oil Stadium hosts more than 200 events per year, The schedule is so busy it poses a challenge when seeking open dates for concerts. The Colts have top priority in the building, People can directly access the convention center via tunnesl without stepping outside And yes, Taylor will be playing there again The stadium is scheduling conventions more than a decade into the future So with 10-11 Colts games per year there are actually nearly16 non-NFL events per month at Lucas Oil Stadium, not "roughly one." I'd love to see CLE build a competitive retractable-roof stadium and snatch some of the revenues and jobs that come with those events.
  9. I didn't realize there was anything more than 8-10 feet in elevation change. There's a legit slope down to the seawall.
  10. Wow...the water level on the river looks really high in these pics. Am I imagining that?
  11. Is that a piece from a tower crane in the second picture, right side? It looks like it's set below grade.
  12. I like how this project dovetails with the expansion plans at CSU. I gotta believe having Police HQ that close to campus will make the proposed dorms and other campus enhancements feel safer, and breathe more life into the area.
  13. I agree with cadmen on how to use Burke. Grant Park and LIncoln Park in Chicago are examples of parks made from landfill, made of garbage and remains of the great Chicago Fire. Cover it with trees and natural planting, put some walking and riding paths in, maybe a concert bandshell near the waters edge, let the Metropark run it, and call it Forest City Park.
  14. People love that Meigs Field on Chicago's lakefront was bulldozed and turned into public spaces/venues. Open land, trees, concert venue, walkways and waterfront accessible for all.
  15. MayDay's picture really demonstrates how monochromatic the downtown architecture is, at least taken from that angle I've never really paid that much attention to it.
  16. Where does the crane stand with respect to where the new SW Tower is to be located? I'm guessing in the center of the west elevation.
  17. A cool article in Bloomberg about adaptive reuse featuring The May in Cleveland. A few other local projects are also called out. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2022-04-28/downtown-department-stores-make-a-comeback-as-luxury-housing
  18. In Curacao they developed a floating pedestrian bridge to connect both sides of their river across a busy shipping channel. Check out the Queen Emma floating pedestrian bridge.
  19. When was Banksy in CLE?
  20. About 10 years ago I visited Willamstad, Curacao. The city is bisected by a river similar in size to the Cuyahoga, and both banks of the river have sizeable pedestrian tourism. Cruise ships and Oil Tankers use that river as the ore ships use the Cuyahoga, so they had a similar challenge to CLE. They developed a floating pedestrian bridge that works really well. It's hinged like a jackknife on one shore and clips into the other shore so pedestrian can freely walk between both side of the river. When ships need to pass it fully opens, but when smaller boats need to pass it open partially to let them pass, then re-clips and pedestrian can continue crossing. I always though CLE should consider a similar option for crossing the Cuyahoga.
  21. Revenue Projection: 1,125 new spots x 8 games x $40/spot = $360,000 year After subtracting management fees and maintenance costs and I don't a ton of revenue hitting the city's coffers.
  22. Here's a brilliant idea: Let's dedicate acres of the city's most valuable property to massive impervious surface lot that will be used 8 days each year. Push it right to the water's edge to gain as many spaces as possible. After all, nobody wants to appreciate the waterfront or experience and green space. Just as "The mistake on the lake" label is fading the city does its best to reinvigorate it.
  23. From the News5 story "the city hoping to learn from ODOT about that initial land bridge funding in June." Are they referring to June 2021 or June 2022? Is the city hoping to learn that funding is feasible? approved? part of some budget approval process? I had no idea that the Land Bridge was anything beyond a wild dream.
  24. Weren't there massive discharge pipes running under I-90 from the power plant to Lake Erie? Are they gone? Would there be any way to repurpose those pipes into pedestrian tunnels to provide a quick (maybe temporary) solutions for crossing I-90? LSD in Chicago also separate the lakefront from the rest of the city but there are many tunnels under The Drive that provide peds and bikers easy access to the waterfront.
  25. I wouldn't change the exterior of Tower at Erieview. I've personally always liked the dark green/gray (whatever color that is) facade and how it contrasts with the rest of the skyline.
