  5. I'm hoping this means that the combined HQ will stay in Cincinnati. They plan to make that decision by the end of the year. I will personally consider it a significant lose if they keep the combined HQ in Maryland. Mercy Health CEO to lead hospital system after merger John Starcher, CEO of Mercy Health, revealed Monday that he will continue as chief executive when the Cincinnati-based hospital system merges with the Maryland-based Bon Secours hospital system this fall. Rich Statuto, CEO of Bon Secours, will serve as an adviser for the next year, primarily focused on strategic growth and innovation after the hospital systems combine operations. Statuto, 61, plans to retire in 2019 after 24 years as the chief executive of health systems, including 13 years as CEO of Bon Secours. https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2018/07/23/mercy-health-ceo-to-lead-hospital-system-after.html
  6. Behind the paywall in case you aren't a subscriber to the Courier Greater Cincinnati banks plan to merge Two small Greater Cincinnati banks that are a combined more than two centuries old have agreed to merge in order to boost their size and make it easier to compete. Cincinnati Federal, based in Green Township and founded in 1922, will merge Kentucky Federal Savings and Loan Association into its operations once the deal is complete. That’s expected to take place in the fourth quarter this year. https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2018/07/23/greater-cincinnati-banks-plan-to-merge.html
  7. Discovery taking over Scripps Networks is mixing things up in Knoxville. Some people have been laid off while some will be moving to new areas including jobs that will be new to the Knoxville office. Scripps Networks broadcast hub moving to Virginia Discovery Communications will move its pre-recorded transmission functions from Knoxville to Virginia, according to an internal memo, but the company will not disclose how many layoffs this and other moves will cause at the former Scripps Networks Interactive campus. “We expect this transfer to be complete by the end of January 2019,” Discovery Chief Technology Officer John Honeycutt wrote in the memo, sent out late Friday, July 20, and obtained by the News Sentinel. “All employees affected by this decision have been notified. I want to take this opportunity to share my appreciation for the many colleagues who are impacted by this decision.” https://www.knoxnews.com/story/money/business/2018/07/23/discovery-communications-scripps-broadcast-hub-virginia/818279002/
  8. I think this is a neat concept. It would be a nice place to grab dinner and a warm summer night. Nightlife: Central Filling Station food truck park fuels a fun night out Since early 2018, Central Filling Station has welcomed folks to the Happy Holler area with cold beer, lots of lawn games and plate after plate of delicious food. It’s a spot where you can simultaneously grab a quick bite and soak up the charm that has made Old North Knoxville such a thriving community, all while spending less than you would at most sit-down restaurants. Basically, it’s one of many reasons why I continue to fall more in love with our city. I initially mistook Central Filling for a lunch spot. It’s easy to do — the convenience and efficiency of food trucks go hand-in-hand with the lunch crowd. Plus, for a group of coworkers who constantly debate about where to go, it’s a minor miracle. The daily rotation of food trucks offers something for everyone. But when I finally stopped by for dinner and drinks, I realized that the park was an equally awesome option for a night out. https://www.knoxnews.com/story/entertainment/columnists/2018/07/19/knoxville-nightlife-central-filling-station-food-trucks-fuel-fun-night-out/792019002/
  9. Historic Cal Johnson building to get facelift after City Council approves PILOT A historic downtown building and a building with a vacant lot in the Old City both should be getting a facelift soon after the Knoxville City Council unanimously approved two payment in lieu of taxes agreements Tuesday night. In all, the projects, the Cal Johnson Building downtown and a lot across from the Old Knoxville High School on East Fifth Avenue, will uplift two segments of town and save the owners of the buildings an estimated $809,000 and $508,000 respectively. https://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/local/2018/07/19/cal-johnson-building-east-fifth-avenue-knoxville-tn/795155002/
  10. Discovery reorganization leads to layoffs at Scripps Networks Interactive Discovery Communications has laid off some employees this week at the Scripps Networks Interactive campus in Knoxville, but details are scarce. Discovery representatives did not respond to several requests for comment. https://www.knoxnews.com/story/money/business/2018/07/20/discovery-reorg-leads-layoffs-scripps-networks-interactive/806653002/
  11. Growing business: Neighborhood farm launching in Knoxville Jeffry Turnmire has grown a backyard garden for all 14 years he’s lived in the 1300 block of Francis Road in Westavia Woods, but four years ago his field got a lot larger. Now his ambition for the land has too: it’s Knoxville’s first residential “market garden,” a step up from a roadside produce stand. https://www.knoxnews.com/story/money/business/2018/07/20/knoxville-market-garden-residential-farm-jeffry-turnmire/795545002/
  12. I did a search and didn't see a Knoxville thread so I started one. I was raised in East Tennessee and worked in Knoxville for a couple summers when I was younger. I still have family that live and work down there so I like to keep up on the news. I've never posted much on this site (even under my old username) so if I'm getting the format for posting news articles wrong then please let me know so that I can fix it. The West Town Mall seems to be adjusting a little better than a lot of mall across the country. West Town Mall updates for new generation; Regal opens Cinebarre theater with restaurant, bar West Town Mall is dressed up for a new generation of customers. The results of 10 months’ renovation were on display Thursday afternoon, as mall officials and guests touted West Town’s multi-generational appeal. Mall Manager Robert O’Grady said shoppers tell him they came to the mall at 7600 Kingston Pike as children, and now bring their own kids. https://www.knoxnews.com/story/money/business/2018/07/19/west-town-shines-cinebarre-shows/802120002/
  13. The Hilton at Keystone Parke is pretty much finished. I was hoping it would be a little taller.
  14. I think I fixed it. From the weekend.
  15. The new Eastgate Medical Center. I'm pretty disappointed in the whole thing.
  16. Apparently I need to get my photo sharing fixed. Can anybody see the pic below? I'm not having a problem seeing them so I'm not sure if they are working now. I stopped by the new Kenton County Admin building over the weekend to take a peak at the progress.
  17. With those times that is not a non-stop route. You would have been connecting somewhere.
  18. The numbers provided in the graph are enplaned pax (the number of passengers that boarded a plane at CVG). The numbers you are seeing as a total are the total number of passengers that enplaned and deplaned in CVG. Not all airports report statistics the same so the numbers provided can make it easier to compare to other airports. For example, DAY only reports statistics in enplanements while CVG reports enplanements, deplanements, and totals. CMH goes a step further and reports statistics broken down by airline.
