The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
Just temporary harm. Like 2-3 hours or so. Just enough to take him out for the game. Gotta love sports. Brings out the worst in us. Why can't we all just get along? Kumbaya my lord kumbaya...

Cincinnati: Mason - Downtown Revitalization
If that's the case then why don't they just bulldoze the whole thing and put up a strip mall. It's amazing to watch and listen to suburbanites. They live in a world that is controlled by fear. Can't have on-street parking, somebody may get hit. Gotta live on a cul-da-sac cause we can't have people driving through the neighborhood. Gotta live in a gated community to keep the others away. Gotta outlaw public transit to keep the "unworthy" out. Gotta wear a bike helmet at all times. Can't have sidewalks, too dangerous when cars drive by. Have to build 200 ft. wide collector roads so the firetrucks can get through if our walled off 10,000 sq. ft. mcmansion is on fire. Sorry about that worthless injection to the thread. Hope they achieve their goal of creating a "Montgomery-esqe" downtown. By the way, no offense to monte of course.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
That's why I pray Michigan wins. But if that's the case, then for the first and only time in my life I hope ND's defense pulls a luckeyes in the '02 NC and takes out Troy Smith's knee, he won't do jack in the NFL anyways, al la Willis McGahee. And the offical could call a bogus pass interference in the end zone and retire the next day to the Bahamas. Then maybe ND could hold off and win in OT.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
Yes I do follow college football. ND is currently #5 in the BCS and plays Army next week and USC the week after that. They win both those games, which is very possible with a weaker USC team this year, and that will knock USC which is currently #3 out of the picture. Obviously somebody has to lose this weekend between scUM and tO$U and with it being this late into the season they will drop below ND in the rankings. That leaves only Florida left in front of ND, which still has to play their big rivalry game with FSU and the SEC Championship game, let alone the fact that they haven't played particaularly well the last month or so. So if ND wins out, which they should, then it is not out of the question for them to play in the NC. p.s. in case you haven't figured out, I'm terribly biased toward ND.

I like to watch paid athletes play football on Sundays... I say Michigan wins 24-21. With mass riots afterwards (which I really hope for the sake of the rest of the state, doesn't occur). And the NCAA will grow some balls and require OSU to play the first home game next year in an empty Ohio Stadium. With a ND-Michigan rematch in the Championship game.

Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
I went to a speech last fall that included John Schneider, who ran the campaign in '02, and he said then that there was no definate date on when to place it back on the ballot. I know the light rail line that was just approved Tuesday by the voters in Kansas City finally passed on the 7th try in the last 9 years. As much as it needs to be passed today, or before construction starts on I75, that's when I think it will finally pass. Once those commuters are sitting in their cars for an hour or two just to commute downtown, that's when I think the lights will go off in the heads of most voters. Just my two cents worth.

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
What about the Cooper Stadium site? Are there currently any plans to redevelop the site once the new ballpark opens? I know it's only 30-40 acres tops with all the parking, but I would love to see some type of inner city/urban soccer complex. Something that is desperately lacking in soccer in this country.

Cincy Parks Vol. 3: International Friendship Park
My only complaint with this park, and many of the Cincy parks, is that there is a lack of comfortable and inviting seating. I often go down to Friendship Park along with Sawyer Point and Bicential Commons to read and at times it is hard to find a comfortable place to sit. Those concrete benches at Friendship are horrible along with the metal wire ones at Sawyer. So often times I just lay up against a tree. In my ideal world I would put 5 or so sets of tables and chairs near the Frienship pavillion. Along with numerous sets in the grass lawn at Sawyer Point. Not only would it provide places to sit, read, draw, etc; it would also provide the opportunity to enjoy lunches and dinners at the parks. Nice pics by the way Rando.

Newport, KY: Ovation
I'd like to know how many of the potential buyers are from what side of the river, along with the South Shore and Ascent projects. It would be interesting to see how many people NKY are "stealing" from the Cincy side. While the design certainly sucks, I personally think it could end up being a positive for the Banks and Downtown, in terms of future retail and entertainment. When the retail and entertainment options start to prepare their market analysis, having another proposed 900 housing units within a half-mile of the site could be a big boost. Although I am a little concerned with the oversaturation of condos in the area. Maybe the Banks should capitalize more on the rental sector. Recent trends have shown that younger people and recent college grads are buying at an older age now. Which could help the Banks in attracting more youth, something that most of us agree that Downtown is lacking.

Cincinnati: Clifton Heights: U Square @ the Loop
^ I did traffic counts at that intersection of McMicken and MLK a few years back. I used that motel parking lot as my spot to count. During the 2 hour time period, I had 4 whores come out of the motel and asked if I need anything. And that was during the 11:00 am to 1:00 pm time period. In the middle of daylight.

more of the same Delays Continue With UC's Calhoun Street Project Reported by: Richard Chiles Web produced by: Neil Relyea Photographed by: 9News First posted: 10/28/2006 11:02:51 PM If you build it, they will come. That was the philosophy surrounding the University of Cincinnati's $100 million Calhoun Street redevelopment. nothing ground breaking that we already didn't know. but nonetheless. McMillan Park project delayed again The scheduled ground breaking for the McMillan Park condominiums has again been pushed back from November to an undetermined date in the spring. "We don't have a set ground breaking for that [McMillan Park]," said Matt Bourgeois, director of the Clifton Heights Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation. "We are still working through some financing issues, but we are hoping for sometime in the spring, that's our target." http://www.newsrecord.org/media/storage/paper693/news/2006/10/26/News/Mcmillan.Park.Project.Delayed.Again-2402009.shtml?norewrite200610261104&sourcedomain=www.newsrecord.org

Hamilton: Development and News
May I point out that there is not a single architect, planner, design professional or even engineer on the OSFC board. I've heard that the OSFC is in the process of being sued for wasting tax-payers' money. Because, of the 10 acre requirements, the 100 or so parking spaces "needed", and the fact that no professionals are on the board.

I agree, it probably wasn't the most appropriate time to say such a thing. But, that's the beauty of a public square.

Circleville / Pickaway County: Developments and News
mohr37 replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt's called Circleville because it used to look like this: The town was originally built around Native American earthworks. But, the people were dissatisfied with the layout and beginning in 1837 they started to "square" Circleville to a conventional grid. By 1856 it was completed and looked as it does now.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Capping FWW would have to be a priority before any development would occur along Third St. or even any new buildings that would front Second. The noise of FWW is quite loud along Second and Third, and during cetain times of the day its difficult to even carry on a converstation on the sidewalk. Not a very pleasant place to have an outdoor cup of coffee or dining experience. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Second and Third both bare concrete? Converting those two to asphalt or any other type of road covering would go a long way in reducing the noise. Also slowing down the speed limit and controling the speed on those two roads is a must before any development should occur.

Southeast Ohio: General Business & Economic News
^ I don't think most people realize how hard it really is to just get up and leave. I have some family members who have NEVER leaved Scioto County, let alone try to get up and move. And I'm not talking about people my age, family members who are in their 40s and 50s. Following along what Jeff mentioned, PBS ran a special earlier this year on eastern Kentucky. It was called country boys and was probably the best show I've seen on the t.v. this year. You can watch online here: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/countryboys/ C-Dawg you go to OU correct? Do they have much of a community outreach program for the area? I know they have the OU Southern branch campus that does some stuff, but do they really do much for the surrounding schools and locals wanting to further their education. I always preceived OU when growing up as people who have turned their backs toward the local appalachians.

Southeast Ohio: General Business & Economic News
Scioto County. Home sweet home. Well, it's not quite that easy. The very few of us that have managed to get out, without the help of the military, have discovered a phenomenon that 99.9% of the appalachian people have. That is the "magnet". Whenever these people get about 2 hours away from their home, whether that be by dirt bike, four-wheeler, monster truck, etc., the magnet will pull them back home. Fortunately for myself and most of my family, we were born without the magnet.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Don't know if this belongs here or if I have skipped it somewhere else. But, I noticed that they are extending the tree lined median on Liberty. It looked like it was extended westward to Main St. Hopefully they will continue this all the way to at least Central Pky. That street is pretty ugly and it would really do wonders just astheticly.

Dayton: Downtown - RiverScape Live
I searched the Dayton Business Journal website and all I found was the original article that I posted last year. So I have idea if this thing is still on. My one time experience with Fourth Street Live didn't seem so great. First they threatened not to let my friend in because he was wearing his hat backwards (after a Bats game have you) then the bowling alley there wouldn't let me in cause I wasn't dressed properly ( I was wearing khaki shorts and a tee). So if they do ever end up building this thing and it's ran like Fourth Street Live, then they prolly wouldn't see much of my business.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Looking at the portfolio of the architect/urban designer from the article Uncle Rando posted, I'm starting to get kind of worried if this is the right choice. http://www.coopercarry.com/index.aspx Nothing in there impresses me at all. I really hope I'm wrong, but I'm starting to echo Monte's statements.
