What got you so damn interested in cities in the first place?
I attribute it to three things: 1. Legos 2. Matchbox cars and playsets 3. Sidewalk chalk* When I was very young, a friend and I would use sidewalk chalk to draw huge cities for our matchbox cars. We would usually fill an entire suburban driveway (2 cars wide, 3 deep) in a matter of hours. This eventually led to discovery of sim city and the destruction of my social life.

Cincinnati: Procter & Gamble
P&G wins US case on Satanic slurs The Devil is not in league with global consumer brand Procter & Gamble, a US court has ruled. P&G won a $19m (£9.7m) lawsuit against four distributors of rival Amway over rumours tying it to Satanism. The court concluded a 12-year lawsuit in P&G's favour, after it ruled that the four had spread a false accusation that P&G subsidised Satanic cults. The case is one of several unfair competition suits P&G has brought refuting the Satanism slurs. Read full article here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/6471373.stm

MVRPC Launches GIS Online Planning Support System Dayton, OH – The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) is pleased to announce the launch of a new interactive Planning Atlas mapping application, GIS Online Planning Support System. The GIS Online Planning Support Systems is a web-based mapping application providing interactive data visualization. The new system provides enhanced data navigation flexibility and map customization features by enabling users to turn layers on and off, as well as panning around the region, and zooming into specific locales. The GIS Online Planning Support System is made available as a result of a year-long project to develop a comprehensive region-based enterprise GIS in partnership with nationally recognized GIS consulting firm Woolpert, Inc. based in Dayton, Ohio. The goals of the project were: * Design and implement a comprehensive enterprise GIS architecture for centralized database management and community-wide regional GIS * Design data models and convert selected datasets into Geodatabase * Develop a web-based communication application The geospatial datasets compiled and available with the initial release are: * Boundary – Political jurisdiction boundary * Census – Census Block, Block Group, Tracts, and Urban Area boundaries * Environment – Wastewater facility planning areas and watershed boundaries * Land Fabric – Open Space and future land use plans * Transportation – Bikeways, Traffic Analysis Zones, Roads, and the FHWA Federal-aid Urbanized Area Boundary MVRPC plans to maintain and further enhance the GIS Online Planning Support System by adding new features and datasets to complement MVRPC’s 2005 Planning Atlas, which provided static maps. The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission is a forum and resource where regional partners identify priorities, develop public policy and implement collaborative strategies to improve the quality of life and economic vitality throughout the Miami Valley. MVRPC performs various regional planning activities, including air quality, water quality, transportation, land use, research and GIS. Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Yes, they can. The street cars have no front or back and they have doors on both sides. However, I'm pretty sure the plans here in cincy call for a continuous loop anyway. The trians will never need to change direction or turn around.

Ohio & National Intercity Bus Discussion
Yeah, I guess that sounds about right. My family lives in the western suburbs so getting there adds another hour/hour half to the drive. 75-80 is usually my preferred speed as well. But its not the distance that makes me hate the drive, its other factors. Unpredictable traffic, relentless state troopers, inclament weather, tolls, trolls, my crappy car with no CD player, etc. I'd much rather be on a bus in a drug-induced slumber than have to put up with these things.

Ohio & National Intercity Bus Discussion
I wish it were only four hours. I come from chicago and the shortest I've been able to make the drive is just over five ( including a lovely stop for a chat with an indiana trooper ). I loathe that drive. Any opertunity for a cost effective alternative is welcome by me. As so far, megabus is the only thing to come close (almosts breaks even). P.S. For the record, the drive from Cincinnati to Chicago has taken me upwards of ten hours to make on multiple occasions.

New tower? Or new lights? Cincinnati
I know exactly what it is. No, It's not a new tower. For the last few days the big cell tower in clifton (end of rohs by fairview school) has been in "strobe" mode. I have know idea why its flashing like this. The other two towers visable from my window (identical) are not flashing like this one. I have seen it in strobe mode before, but it has always been during bad weather when the tower is obscured by clouds or fog. The last few mornings have been relativly clear.

Urban Ohio "Picture Of The Day"
Ha! I was actually at Grub for the first time last week! Interesting joint. It was a sunny day and I think it took my eyes a good half hour to adjust to the gloomy interior. I was half expecting a mafia family to walk in or something. I had a good BLT though.
