  1. Yes and there is a slight rise (not huge) of stay at home dads which was a foreign concept in the 50s. I also wonder if it is part due to more people going to college and grad school as some of them would not participating in the work force.
  2. Definitely worth a read. Some takeaways and interesting tidbits. 1) Even though our population is declining or GDP per capita is increasing above the national average by a decent margin. Interesting that since 2010 our GDP per capita has grown 1.94% annualized whereas Clark county has grown .68%. I wonder how much of this is from economic growth and how much of this is from poorer residents leaving cuyahoga county. 2) We have done a decent job diversifying our economy and have moved away from manufacturing while increasing in the knowledge based services. We still lag behind in information and technology though which needs to change. In fact we have lost 6.1k jobs in this area since 2001. 3) Manufacturing in cuyahoga is only 12.4% where as it is 14.1% nationally and 17.5% in Ohio. This shocked me as I didn’t not think CC was below the national average.
  3. That's fair but again with a pandemic the fact that we are still growing makes me not too nervous. It may be a little slower than what it was before and maybe we need to scale back with newer projects to let all these ones hitting the market be absorbed (especially the ones that are more generic in nature) but I don't think the Downtown Apartment market is headed in a bad direction.
  4. For some perspective. According to DCA 2019 - Q2 - 92.2% - 7167 units = 6608 occupied. 2020 - Q2 - 86.3% - 7842 units = 6768 occupied. Even with a pandemic going on we still have 160 more units occupied than we did the year previous. Without the pandemic it may have been much higher. All this to say that there is no reason to panic and we are still going in a good direction.
  5. I will say that the new stones look bad in the photo when comparing it to the others. Hopefully it looks different in person and/or there are added things happening to the stones.
  6. Would love for them to make this push and have the life insurance division headquartered downtown (but I'll take the division just being in the county). https://www.crainscleveland.com/finance/progressive-says-theres-more-come-potential-life-insurance-push
  7. Yes I've loved that essentially every time it's been the Cleveland company doing the acquiring which bodes well for our future.
  8. Anyone able to take pictures of the inside? I believe they were planning on making some changes to the lay out and was curious as to what they were.
  9. What recent development in Ohio City would you say is a lot worse than this one? Church and State and Intro are both high caliber developments. Even Quarter was a solid project IMO. Edit: Now that I think of it, there are a few other projects of similar scale that aren't that great.
  10. That means that the building went from 53 units occupied to 82 in less than a month which is amazing given that there is a pandemic. If this pace continues they will be fully leased within a year!
  11. Could someone explain what is going on with the pool? That is the first time I’ve seen a pic of it and it’s not what I expected.
  12. Great article! One minor correction is Progressive is headquartered in Mayfield so Cleveland Cliffs could potentially be the largest company headquartered in Cleveland or the second largest in Cuyahoga or Cleveland MSA behind Progressive.
  13. Yeah but at the same time in the article it talks about how due to decrease in employees since its been acquired it is moving from 30,000 sqft between the two offices to only 15,000 sqft. I wonder if it is that much of a increase in downtown presence from what it was several years ago even though half the people would have been in Solon.
  14. Just for fun with the addition of Cleveland Cliffs, and if RPM and TransDigm continue to grow we could potentially be looking at Cleveland Proper - 4 (would be tied for 27th among states) Sherwin Williams - 180 Cleveland Cliffs - 170-200 - just occurred to me that Cleveland Cliffs could become the largest company headquartered in Cleveland KeyCorp - 411 TransDigm - 513 (even with the pandemic which hurt them last quarter they are still up through 3 quarters) Cuyahoga - 7 (would be 22nd among states) Progressive - 86 Sherwin Williams - 180 Cleveland Cliffs - 170-200 Parker Hannefin - 224 KeyCorp - 411 Travel Centers - 480 TransDigm - 513 Cleveland MSA- 8 (would be tied for 20th among states) Progressive - 86 Sherwin Williams - 180 Cleveland Cliffs - 170-200 Parker Hannefin - 224 KeyCorp - 411 Travel Centers - 480 RPM - 508 (been on the cusp recently) TransDigm - 513 Cleveland CSA - 11 (would be tied for 16th among states) Progressive - 86 Sherwin Williams - 180 Cleveland Cliffs - 170-200 Goodyear - 216 Parker Hannefin - 224 First Energy - 294 J.M. Smucker - 407 KeyCorp - 411 Travel Centers - 480 RPM - 508 TransDigm - 513
  15. Combining the revenues from the 3 companies we get 18.3 billion which would be 177 on the fortune 500. Even taking out 2 billion in revenue at 16.3 billion they are exactly number 200. The first scenario would make them the 2 largest fortune 500 company headquartered in NEO and the second scenario would make them the 3rd (unfortunately FE and Goodyear have dropped down a decent bit over the years). AK Steel ~ 6.3 billion Cleveland Cliffs ~ 2 billion AM USA ~ 10 billion Total 18.3 billion NEO Fortune 1000 Lincoln Electric - 949 Hyster Yale - 783 PolyOne - 734 Aleris - 724 Apllied Ind. Tech - 715 Medical Mutual - 695 Timken - 661 Diebold - 607 TransDigm - 513 RPM - 508 Travel Centers - 480 KeyCorp - 411 J.M. Smucker - 407 First Energy - 294 Parker Hannefin - 224 Goodyear - 216 (14.745 billion) Sherwin Williams - 180 (17.9 billion) Progressive - 86 (39.02 billion)
  16. I also think that because of CoVid and supply chains both Democrats and Republicans are pushing to have more things made in the US as a matter of national security. This would bode well for Cleveland Cliffs as they might end up becoming too big to allow to fail.
  17. I have a feeling those in the three burbs especially Pepper Pike have all the funding they need ?
  18. https://www.crainscleveland.com/technology/lakewood-tech-company-within3-raises-more-100-million-latest-financing-round Speaking of tech, $100 million raised in one round of financing is great news and as the article says, expect the company to get much bigger quickly.
  19. https://www.cleveland.com/datacentral/2020/09/ranking-us-cities-for-poverty-cleveland-12th-overall-but-no-1-among-places-of-at-least-200000-census-estimates.html why is Cleveland’s population shown to be 370k? It was just recently estimated at 381k. Has there been a mass exodus or were the previous numbers way off?
  20. Can things like the Auto, RV, and Boat show even be hosted in the Huntington Convention Center? For some reason I thought it was too small. The IX center is massive at 2.2 million square feet. My guess is that given it's location and overall good condition someone will snatch the Center up and convert it to a warehouse.
  21. That figures. I thought the same thing. Should have known that the article was too high quality to actually be a cleveland.com original.
  22. SHW stock is at an all time high at over $700. I found it interesting that their market capitalization (65.4billion) is now over twice that of their main competitor PPG (29.8billion). PPG stock is still down a little YTD while SHW is up 140 (about 23%).
  23. I feel like they already have a Millionaires Row museum as apart of the Western Reserve Museum (Cleveland History Center). If I remember right that mansion was actually moved. The tour was really amazing as it featured different furniture and artifacts from different parts of Cleveland's History including a room that was filled with Jeptha Wade's furniture and belongings.
  24. It seems like every Cleveland business or development article is now paywalled or on their sister site but I’m able to see their rankings of Moriah Carey’s top 70 songs. Beside sports their no longer is a reason for me to access it!
  25. They are never going to be that great because they have no idea what the inside of the house is like. Like I just did a 5k decent remodel of my walk out basement. Since I did like all the work myself I’m pretty confident I may double what I put in. My zestimate will remain unchanged because they have no idea.
