  1. https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/cleveland-planning-commission-greenlights-city-club-apartments-tower-plan-downtown Per Michelle Jarobe’s article the developers expect to seek final approval in September!
  2. Is Centennial still on the table?
  3. https://jfs.ohio.gov/RELEASES/unemp/202008/index.stm Ohio's July unemployment rate of 8.9% is 1.3% below the national average of 10.2%. For June, Ohio's unemployment rate was 11% while nationwide it was 11.1%.
  4. I agree with some of the members. Great idea wrong location! Would love to have something more substantial go in that spot!
  5. Did something change and the canning facility for GLBC end up in Strongsville instead of the Penisula? Don't even remember hearing of an expansion to Strongsville.
  6. Hate how everything is paywalled now! But good news nonetheless.
  7. Thanks for the link to this page. Love that it has like all of the projects listed. Some that I forgot about.
  8. Interesting the different perspectives. I see it as between a Walmart and a target. Wouldn’t see it as better than target for sure.
  9. Maybe the Westin will improve now. Since living in Warren/Youngstown my wife and I try to stay at a different downtown Cleveland Hotel for a mini vacay. Even being a Marriott rewards member, the Westin Hotel is one that I won’t think about staying at. The reviews especially on the Marriott Bonvoy are really bad!
  10. Maybe this needs to go into a different thread but can people who aren't close to retirement and have paid off their mortgage explain why they did so? To me having at least 100k tied up earning you nothing when you could be paying maybe 4% interest on it and making well more than that in the market (8-10%) doesn't jive with me. I get near retirement because you want to increase stability and minimize risk but when you are 15-20 years away from retiring? I guess I just don't get it.
  11. Also don't look at it as cutting monthly payment. Look at it as interested saved. As others have pointed out often you pay less principal when you refinance. So given the $3000 example if you cut your monthly payment by $300 and you pay $100 less in principle per month then the true savings is $200 per month (the interest portion) and will take 15 months to break even.
  12. So much has to do with how long you are trying to stay in the house and what your financial goals are (I’m married to a financial advisor). Refinancing while lowers your payment still costs money. It costs 3-4k usually so you need to make sure that you stay long enough that you recoup that in interest saved. Another thing is are you trying to free up equity at all to invest in the market or real estate. My brother does real estate and one of the big benefits of refinancing is it frees up equity that you can invest in places that yield a much higher rate of return than what you would be saving in interest rates. For instance, free up 20k that you will have to pay 3% or even 4 or 5% mortgage interest on is totally worth it if you can invest that 20k in a new rental property that yields a 15-20% rate of return.
  13. Unless I’m retiring I would never want to have my house paid off. Honestly I’d even take out a second mortgage. A mortgage is at worst like 4%. Overtime the market does much better than a 4% return.
  14. https://www.realtor.com/research/ Went to the site. Ohio Cities Cleveland-Elyria went up 14% YoY to $235 (about $29k) with active listings dropping 47%. Cincinnati metro had a massive increase of 18% to 340k (around $52k) with active listings dropping 52%. Columbus - 5% increase to 332k (about 16k), listings down 43%. Some of the Bigger Cities Boston 13% increase to 675k, listings down 31% Miami - 2% decrease to 404k, listings down 12% Chicago - 5% increase to 349k, listings down 32% New York - 6% increase to 593k, listings down 16%. Nationwide prices increased 8% with listings decreasing 33%.
  15. https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/2020/07/united-airlines-chooses-cleveland-based-commutair-for-regional-flying-will-end-expressjet-partnership.html If I’m reading this right this seems like a net positive for the region because they chose to go with a local company CommutAir.
  16. Anecdotal evidence but my wife and I when we eventually move back to Cleveland probably want to end up in Shaker Heights so I monitor the prices and check in from time to time. I can definitely say that the prices have gone up in the past several months and there have been several that I've seen sell above ask.
  17. If it didn’t have the cinder block wall in the front and the glass continued it would look better.
  18. Next time you are walking by jump the fence, get closer, and take pictures. Then I'm sure there will be some on the site able to confirm what is going on ?
  19. Welcome to Cleveland! Although it is not in its glory days it is now on the upswing and there is so much more to Cleveland than meets the eyes! Unfortunately you essentially do need a car to live in Cleveland. There are some who do without but most want it.
  20. https://www.crainscleveland.com/rachel-mccafferty-blog/cleveland-state-forms-groups-work-csu-20 Crain's article on CSU. @KJP's scoop was much more detailed. A few notes. *The author called it a "CSU 2.0 plan" although I'm not sure if that it was CSU is officially calling it. *There will be lots of community interaction including towns halls and eventually a "CSU 2.0 webpage" *Final recommendations are expected by Nov. 16
  21. I get that but at the same time there is almost an expectation that outlet malls are more exposed to the elements. Without the exposed outdoors environment, it just feels more like a regular nall. There are lots of outlet malls that are a decent amount north of Cleveland that do just fine! Just think locally outdoor Crocker Park does better than essentially all other surrounding indoor malls near it so I don't think being outdoors is that huge of a detraction. Plus, the way it is angled there should be much wind from the lake giving that awful chill.
  22. Many hotel rooms are larger and are at least 300sqft. Honestly don’t know how you fit all the kitchen appliances, a few cabinets, bed, and bath in that space.
  23. At least 25 news jobs from a new company outside the region specializing in social media/digital advertising. Landing in the warehouse district. While not huge news still good news nonetheless. https://www.crainscleveland.com/government/texas-based-social-media-advertising-firm-plans-open-office-downtown-cleveland
  24. The crazy thing about Mecca tower is that is has more square ft then all our downtown office buildings combined! Just an insanely massive building.
  25. Does anyone know if this project means that we won't have to worry about Edgewater being closed due to sewage? I wasn't really tracking with this site when the project began. https://www.cleveland.com/news/2020/06/northeast-ohio-regional-sewer-district-finishes-2nd-of-7-tunnels-in-3-billion-project-to-keep-sewage-out-of-lake-erie.html
