Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
I can see what Seicer is saying though. The stadiums on the east and west sides will be done, FWW on the north, and the Centeral Riverfront Park on the south. And right in the middle of all of this.... huge parking lots eagerly awaiting for the construction equipment to show up, hopefully shortly.

Effin' awesome old color photos (CIN, CLE, COL)
The Netherland Hilton is part of the Carew Tower complex. I believe you are correct though, that its at 6th & Vine, which would make it the old Crown Plaza Hotel. I do believe that it was built in the '40s.

Cincinnati's Derelict Surprises
Yup, thats the old St. Francis Hospital. My mom worked there and moved the first patient to the new St. Francis-St. George Hospital farther up Queen City at Boudinot. I remember there being a huge marble stair case going up to the second floor right as you walked in. It is now St. Francis Court, and is a senior living facility, as Uncle Rando pointed out. I do not believe it is not only for nuns as Hydro said. Perhaps you were thinking of the Mother House or Mother Margarete Hall at Mount St. Joseph in Delhi?

Hallo aus Deutschland (Photos of Köln, München & Schloss Neuschwanstein)
Here is some more interesting stuff on Munich. This church is the Frauen Kirche (The Church of Our Lady). It's right down the street from the Rathaus (City Hall). You can climb to the top of the spires for awesome views of downtown Munich, but you have to trek up a long narrow spiral staircase. I can just see someone tripping and taking down everyone in his path on the way to the bottom. The entire area surrounding the buildings in monte's post was completely destroyed during the allied bombings in WWII. These buildings including the Rathaus and Frauen Kirche were rebuilt to look almost exactly like they did before the war. The only parts left of the Frauen Kirche where a portion of the towers and parts of the exterior walls. If you go inside, you will notice that the stained glass only goes half way up the windows, the top half is regular clear glass. This is because they ran low on funds during rebuilding, and decided to put in the stained glass that was done and do the rest later. This is the glockenspiel on the Alt Rathaus (old City Hall), actually rebuilt after the new city hall. Directly under this is an archway that leads to a courtyard in the center of the building. Halfway through, carved in stone on the wall, are the seals of all of Munich's sister cities, including Cincinnati.

New Uses for Old Churches
This is a great idea, I know of 2 that I drive by every day on my way home from work. One is on River Road, just west of the Waldvogle Vidaduct. It looks like it was bought about a year ago, they did some exterior painting and boarded up a few of the broken out windows, but is now back on the market by Sibsy Cline. I've looked on the MLS, unsuccessfully, for more info. Another is the old Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Stiner St. in Sedamsville. An old Catholic church, it was decommissioned in the '70s and has sat vacant ever since. I do believe, though, that someone bought it shortly after its decommissioning and is doing minor repars to keep it standing, in hopes that someone will come along and convert it for better use.

The Great Snowstorm of December 1, 2006
Indeed. .5 inches yet somehow Cincy drivers managed to screw up during that too. -_- Those are the ones that go out in it. There are many more who stay huddled up inside with their 3 week supply of milk, bread, and batteries.

Geauga Lake
Rumor has it that X-Flight will land at King's Island. I hear that they are clearing land near Flight of Fear for it.

Do any of WLW AM700 Talk Show Hosts Live in Ohio?
Are we not supposed to do this? I'm sorry, I'm going to have to plead ignorance. Ususally I don't comment on her size though, more about her outragous makeup or the fact that you can smell her before you walk in the door.

OTR from the 17th Floor
Very Nice, all I have is a sliver of a window on the 2nd floor over looking Court St. Even then its through a bunch of server racks. :-(

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
I totally agree. I don't care what your political affilation is, I think it was just tacky to call Ken Blackwell, or Bob Taft, or Bill Clinton, or whoever a son of a bitch at the rededication of a civic landmark. It's totally the wrong event. To me it's like a best man giving a toast at a wedding and doing the same thing - absolultly no class

Oxford / Miami University: Development and News
Wow, with Goggin gone, it really opens up the view to Pearson and the New Psycology building. I used to live in Swing and one of my windows looked out that way. Kind of sad to see it in a pile of rubble though. My graduation was in that building and it was kind of interesting being on the floor. All the ice was gone, but the concrete was painted with the hockey markings.

NYC: World Trade Center
I find it really interesting to read these reactions. The Twin Towers were chided by everyone in the archetecture world when they were built and I'm seeing a lot of the exact same reactions.

Cincinnati: Delhi Pike
I have several issues with what has been said here so far, so I am just going to list them: Two Points: #1 The shut down of the Fire Dept was nothing more than political posturing by the township trustees to pass a levy that no one wanted. I believe it added about $300 more in taxes for the owner of a $100,000 house. #2 The city has done the same thing in the past, but they called them "rolling brown-outs". Property Taxes - Anyone have figures on home ownership in the township. I'm sure it's fairly high. And in general: Holy Shit! You people make it sound like Delhi is spiraling out of control into the 4 dimension of Hell. It isn't that bad. You still have outstanding schools, a vast number of homes well over the $150K mark, and residents that really do care about eachother. It is a community with a lot more potential that you are giving it credit for. It just needs some people in charge who can see that and strive to make it great. I believe the trustees have sat on their laurels way too long, and its time for a major change. /soap_box

Cincinnati: General Business & Economic News
My Guess is they will try to keep it some what close to Anthem's Midwest headquarters campus at the corner of Irwin-Simpson Rd. and Duke Blvd. They have 3 office buildings there, 1 containing their perscription drug by mail center.
