  1. Why not Queen City Square II? 350,000 sq. ft. would be a good jumping-off point.
  2. As a life-long resident I am also ashamed to admit that I have never been inside Spring Grove. I know...very sad. Talking about the park atmosphere, I can't think of a local photography or architecture class that hasn't been to Spring Grove. It is just a very beautiful and peaceful place. In fact, my brother is having his wedding pictures taken there when he gets married in November. At first I thought it was very strange, but after thinking about the cemetary more, I think its a great place for that. I have also heard somewhere that Spring Grove is the second-largest cemetary in the US behind Arlington.

I think this is just one factor in the resulting decline, and for analysts to end there is sloppy & lazy. I don't think some shoppers, including the woman quoted in the article, realize that the Macy's store they shop in has been owned by the same company for years, and only the name of the store has changed. People have an emotional attachment to the Lazarus name, though, and they are having an emotional reaction to the fact that name is no longer around, even if the stuff inside is the same as it was before. I think the largest impact is going to be the conversion of the Kaufmann's stores along with the rest of the old May nameplates. These stores are not just changing names, but also owners, clothing lines carried etc... It is going to be a huge adjustment, just like when Dillard's bought McAlpins. I don't understand why some companies are so quick to consolidate under one name. Sometimes that local connection (even if it is just in name) is worth more than the cost of printing tags, bags, signs, etc for each nameplate. I work for a very large company that operates under over 20 nameplates, although the names are different and the stores are set up a little different, the rest of the stuff is the same. It is possible to keep that local connection and still be consolidated and standardized across all facets of the business.
  4. It's on the East side of I-75, you can see the cut in the hill in the fist picture. My guess would be somewhere around St. Luke's, but I think the hospital is farther south.
  5. I like this version better. I think the new consept will become dated very quickly.
  6. Damn, that building is huge! Any word on the plans for the vacated space at Laws and Upham? And for that matter, Gaskill and Kreger? With all these schools moving farther north (gee this kind of sounds like sprawl ) there wont be much left on academic quad.
  7. Black vs. White is not the same as Wealthy vs. Middle Class and I think that line has been blurred here. Yes the development will probably be priced to a certian population that would pay a premium for views of the river and downtown. Any developer in their right mind would do this, just look at the condos going up on the Kentucky side of the river, they are all geared toward this same group of people, and yet no one is bitching about. Things like this are completely market driven, no one is going to build section 8 housing on one of the most valuable pieces of land in the region. As for the $400,000 house comment, I bet there are more black people living in them than the Enquirers beloved "young professionals." Most of these people can't afford anything near this price range. And if they are like me, they are already have bills that look like morgage payments for their student loans for the next 10-15 years.
  8. Well I have to say, If it weren't for this thread I wouldn't know anything about this issue, given that I haven't seen anything about it in the Cincinnati Enquirer. And from the looks of where these articles have come from, neither has anyone else.
  9. Sounds to me like you were having a craving for Burger King... that guy creeps me out!
  10. Has anyone been to Geauga Lake in the last year? I know the first year CF operated the park things were very rough. This happend because CF purchased the park right before the season, and since Six Flags still owned the branding/theaming on the rides, CF imediatly HAD to remove them, based on the purchasing contract. I never went there when it was Six Flags, but I did go the first year CF owned it, I liked a lot of the rides but the park itself did need some work. Since Paramount is completely out of the thrill park business, CF has the ability to plan the integration of the Paramount parks into the CF system. The fact that they are looking to keep the Nickolodian name is promising, maybe they will keep some other stuff. I don't see them doing one season pass for the whole system, although it would be awesome to use your Kings Island Season Pass at Knott's Barry Farm or whatever. I do imagine, though, that they will do something where you can use the same pass at all 3 Ohio parks.
  11. I would figure a Pig's eye view would be a little lower... You must be a FLYING pig ;)

    That's because young professionals can't cant afford $740,000, + $440 a month in association fees. I know I sure as hell can't.
  13. I really don't think this picture is from the 50's, probably the 40's though. I say this because if you look at the top middle of it, you can see Crosley Field w/o any surface lots around it. I know that several of the surrounding buildings were torn down to provide parking for the Red's, but as to what year that started, I don't know.

This is true, I used to see it in the morning on my way to work. It was on River Road in Riverside, facing west just before the "S" curve between Lillianthall and Hillside. It was a black billboard with white lettering that said "God Listens to Mike McConnell" with the WLW logo under it. The person used black spraypaint to mark out "Mike McConnell" and with a different color added "Slayer". They put up a new one with the same ad very quickly, but I noticed this morning it's been replaced by a different billboard. Sorry...No pictures
  15. I too live in Delhi, and can attest to the sound problem. However, it does depend on where in the township you live, as to how bad the noise is. I live on the east side of the township, which lines up with the airport terminals, there is one runway to my east, and 2 to the west. Because of where I am, the noise isn't that bad since the planes don't fly directly over my house. I have a friend who lives in the area around Rapid Run and Pontious and I can tell you, that the noise is pretty bad. At the times during the day when Delta is doing a "push" (majoirty of take off and landings happening in a short period of time), it is very hard to hold a conversation outside, a plane flies over every minute.
  16. No trip to Cincinnati is complete with out "experiencing" the Brent Spence Bridge at rush hour. Make it even more fun by trying to get on I-75 South from the 6th Street Expressway.
  17. Thats the Cincinnatus mural on the side of the Kroger building facing Central Pkwy. This mural reminds me a lot of that, I think its so cool that someone has the vision and talent to take a totally blank wall and give it a life that instantly makes it a landmark.
  18. Any word on a timeline for the re-facing of the low 5/3 Center? I'd hate for them to open the square and then a few months later, have all these craines around it again b/c 5/3 did do the re-facing while the square was all torn up.
  19. We're going to need PFM to complete this project - Pure Freak'n Magic!

Damn Rob, I'd hate to see what you do when the telemarketers call ;)
  21. The Shriver Center is more of a conference center than anything else. When I was at Miami, I know they were doing a feesability study on the Shriver space. Their plan was to close Harris dinning hall and locate the catering offices and banquet rooms into the vacated space. They were going to replace Harris with a "super dinning halll" in the new Fine Arts building which is planned for the field behind the current Fine Arts building. I don't know if they were planning on keeping the current building, or razing it and extending the Fine Arts Plaza. I agree that a better utialized student union would do little to curb drinking around campus, but it would reduce the caos at King Library and let it be used better as a library and not a centeral gathering space for everyone. I also agree that Miami needs to take a look at UC, NKU, OU, OSU & WSU to see how they utilize their student unions. I know those are all much larger than Miami's but there is room to expand toward Patterson, & Oak streets and the Fine Arts Plaza. Whatever they do, however, I don't think it will be done until several years after all the current building projects are completed.

The name is Miami University. "Ohio" is no where in any official form for the university (except for the website, which will be changing in the near future. Just remember, Miami was a university while Florida still belonged to Spain!
  23. The sundial was taken down for repairs, too many people climbing up into it. I admit, I was one of them. One thing that I forgot to mention in my last post, if any of those buildings is named "Garland Hall" I am just going to puke!

Where's Charlton Heston when you need him???
  25. Ink, Thanks for the pics, I can't believe the progress that they are making on those buildings. I'm also very impressed with the garage, It took me a minute to figure out what it was. I'm also happy to see the new SEAS building coming along. As a Systems Analysis grad, I got to see the beginning stages of the plans for this building and I can't wait to see the new building open. It will truely be a great day when SEAS gets to move out of Kreger - They can't tear that down fast enough. As for the proposal of the student union....um....interesting. From the pic it looks like the concept was to be placed between Roudabush and Ogdin? Your right, it would never be built at Miami. The new business school is just unGodly massive! I'm trying to get my bearings on the picture, the portch with the collumns is facing Cook Field? What is the building in the lower right side of the picture?
