Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
Their treatment of their employees and their support of someone who tried to overthrow the United States government affects my feelings about this development and the forum is a perfect place to relay those feelings to others. If you don't like it, you can easily just keep scrolling. Seems like an easy fix.

2022 U.S. Senate Race
He's done a ton of events in the Cincinnati, Cbus, and Cleveland cities and burbs. He's also done events in Portsmouth, Chillicothe, Athens, and Gallipolis--that I know of.

Is the building done? When I was at Zeigler Pool a few weeks ago they were still building it out.

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
Very mixed feelings on this. Love having a local brewery here but not a fan of March First. Their beer isn't all that great, and on top of that I have heard they don't treat their employees very well. Plus, the guy is one of the region's biggest Trump donors.

Stay tuned. Several council members are working on things.

You can keep the historic district and just change the standards. The challenge was that the HCB misapplied the standards. Make them more lenient and more clear.

Change the regulatory regime and zoning to allow these developments by right. Then there is no venue for the NIMBYs to weigh in.

Short Vine isn't in Clifton though.

Always thought it would be a good spot for a real local brewery to open a taproom. Fifty West, Little Miami, Sonder, Fretboard, West Side, Third Eye. Would make a great place for any of them to break into the downtown market.

I think the concerning part is that a developer is basically paying a community council to support their project. How is that different than what PG did?

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
There it is! My friend, I am white and have walked through these crowds a million times and no one has ever said anything mean or insulting to me. I have never felt uncomfortable or unwelcome. Maybe some self reflection is in order.

A lot of assumptions being made by someone who doesn't live here or hang out on Main Street.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
There are similar crowds hanging out on the sidewalks on W. 6th every weekend. The only difference is the grills. Which, like, fine, outlaw the grills. I really don't think that's the problem here though.

Respectfully, you don't know what you're talking about. Every bar has an insane line after 10 pm on the weekends and it is one in and one out. It is 100% true that the bars are at capacity and a lot of people can't get in.

And to that point, Ted Strickland was a similar type of Dem. Popular in SEO, used folksy language, avoided liberal social stances on the campaign trail.

US Economy: News & Discussion
Because unemployment is historically low. We have an extremely tight labor market. Imagine the job growth we'd have with sane immigration policies.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Does it factor in? Demand is not a problem. We have more than we can currently accommodate. The problem is on the supply side, where the regulatory framework can delay or prevent projects from happening.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
I have friends in town this weekend and we will definitely be going to Main Street bars. I feel very comfortable doing that. And I bet there will be thousands of other people there who feel the same way.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
Yes, this mass shooting was very much a one-off event. Saying that, which is true, doesn't mean that there aren't shootings in OTR (or elsewhere for that matter). And it doesn't mean that it isn't a problem that we need to address. Of course it is. We also need to address it in Price Hill, Fairmount, Westwood, the list goes on (including, by the way, many suburbs). But it is simply untrue that there are more shootings in OTR now than there were in the past. There are exactly the same amount as there was in 2019, and there are a lot less than there were earlier in the decade, or in decades past. There's not some new rush of crime because of some "block parties" or whatever you want to call them.

What evidence do you have of that? A feeling?

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
It's the most expensive neighborhood in the city on a per square foot basis. Apparently a lot of people see its potential and are spending a lot of money to live there.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Violent crime is slightly down this year from last, and exactly the same as in 2019. There are not shootings every weekend. There have been 15 total shootings in OTR this year, compared to 23 at this point last year, and 18 at this point in 2019. Most of them are north of Liberty and east of Race, like they have been for several years.

I fail to see how blaring classical music to run people off is going to help OTR business owners or its reputation as a popular destination spot. Seriously, what are you basing this "OTR has gotten out of hand and has to be stopped" opinion on? Violent crime is at exactly the same rate as it was in 2019 in OTR, before the pandemic. Total violent crimes are down about 1% from last year. Aggravated assaults are down 30% so far this year. There was a mass shooting in Fairfield earlier this year and one in West Chester in 2019. Has West Chester gotten out of hand? It sucks we live in a state where anyone can carry a gun anywhere and be tempted to use it when conflict arises, but that's a different problem altogether than whether OTR is uniquely unsafe. This was a one-off incident. It is a tragedy, but it could happen anywhere.

Not sure how 1 or 3 would be helpful. And didn't this happen at like 1:30? So the bars were still open.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
I really don't think this will end up being a 3CDC project. City Council rejected the historic designation because there is a specific developer interested.
