  1. I appreciate your perspective. My partner and I are also members and it's my opinion that everyone should visit. It's an amazing asset for our city. While I wouldn't feel comfortable having a wedding there I definitely support them hosting events to keep the doors open and continue to tell the important story they tell.
  2. This is a weird take to me. I don't understand why the history of the property is the only thing that matters? The subject matter of the museum is very serious and sobering, which is the literal definition of solemn. And I'm not faulting the museum for hosting events. Just saying I would feel weird having my wedding there. I'm not sure why you seem to be taking that as an attack on the museum's efforts to raise money.
  3. They literally do rent out the space with the slave pen for weddings. I'm not faulting the museum. I know they need to raise funds. I'm just saying I PERSONALLY would not feel comfortable having a wedding there.
  4. Disagree. The subject matter of the museum is slavery, including an entire wing devoted to modern-day slavery. They have an actual slave pen where humans were kept in bondage while they waited to be shipped down the river. It is a very emotional and overwhelming experience. If that's not solemn, I don't know what is. To me, it would be like having your wedding at the Holocaust Museum. It doesn't matter that the actual holocaust didn't happen on the grounds of the museum.
  5. I think I would've rather had another mixed-use building there from the beginning but I don't think it's true that it is rarely used. It seems to me that there is an event there just about every weekend from Spring through Fall.
  6. Side note, I know the Freedom Center does weddings but it always seemed weird to me. It's such a solemn space. Doesn't feel right to have a wedding there.
  7. According to some folks with a lot of familiarity with neighborhood history there was indeed a market house there at one time. Not sure when it ceased to exist.
  8. The Daoud's are opening a restaurant in the building next door. The children of one of the founders of beloved Cincinnati staple Gold Star Chili are opening a bar and restaurant downtown in honor of their late father and his world travels. Frankies Sips & Savories is coming to 14 Garfield Place downtown with a goal of opening by Sept. 1. The bar takes its name for Fahid "Frank" Daoud, one of four brothers who created Gold Star Chili in 1963. Daoud died on May 17, 2020. https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2021/06/23/frankies-sips-savories-opening.html
  9. Or to attract significantly more immigrants, no?
  10. For awhile we had a plethora of chicken restaurants in downtown/OTR and several have closed. Now with this, the new place on Court Street, Jack Brown's, and Nation we seem to have a glut of burger places.
  11. The obvious one that is missing is Columbus. They claim that's because there'll be hearings at the statehouse that people can attend.
  12. Every decennial census there are always several cities that challenge the count.
  13. The easier to use files will be released on data.census.gov in September.
  14. Based on the county level map they showed in the presentation I would say the "extra" people will end up being in the suburbs.
  15. Somebody might beat me to it, but I plan to do it sometime over the next week when I get a chance.
  16. Looks like a lot of stuff built in Northern Virginia
  17. I think you're being too critical. Lots of development going on in Covington around Mainstrasse. Glad that Ovation is moving along but it sat vacant for years. I suspect the IRS site will move forward soon.
  18. No idea! But seems reasonable to me that they kept the improvements.
  19. The always put their sandwich board out on Vine Street so I think they view that as their current "front door." I would imagine they might be moving into the space where Frisch's was on 5th Street so they can have a real street presence.
  20. For every Jeff Ruby empire there are dozens of steakhouses that go out of business in their first year. Jeff Ruby has a loyal customer base so volume is always high. If you're trying to make all your money on Saturday night you're going to go out of business.
  21. It'll all depend on how the primary goes. Will it be a friendly contest? Or will it get dirty? If it gets dirty they are dooming themselves. If it stays clean and DeWine is dealing with his own dirty primary then Nan might have the slimmest of chances against him in the general.
  22. Yea, access to capital is more of the limit than demand. A bank sees a 5 story building as safer than a 20 story building.
  23. Yea, that's not how the referenced studies worked. Go back and read the article again. I'm not politicizing what you said. I'm just telling you that it's wrong, according to actual experts. I don't understand why you're doubling and tripling down instead of saying "oh wow, I learned something today. Thanks for the info."
  24. Austin metro has 2.3 million. Cbus metro has 2.14 million. Austin isn't in a CSA. Columbus CSA is 2.54 million.
  25. I agree with this assessment. I didn't mean to imply the settlement patterns are the same. Just that all three were relatively small state capitals that have seen a massive boom.
