Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
Wait, is there data out there that says that Cincinnatians are more likely to make their beds than people in other cities?

Cincinnati: Bockfest
I mistakenly believed it always happened the first weekend of Lent. Pretty good coincidence that it lines up this year with the change.

Cincinnati: Walnut Hills / East Walnut Hills: Development and News
That's quite the blanket statement. Do you mean universally? Or in Cincinnati? Lots of upper class neighborhoods in big cities across the country have tons of pedestrian activity. This is especially true in the Northeast. We don't really have a dense, walkable upper class neighborhood in Cincinnati. But go to Rittenhouse Square, Beacon Hill, or the Upper East Side and you'll see tons of people walking. This isn't true. I run in CUF often and see tons of college students walking places. If so many of them were taking Ubers to campus it would be gridlock at all hours of the day with lines of cars waiting to drop people off. I was running there on a Friday night in the fall and I saw all the kids walking to parties. Took me back to my days at OU. Likewise, I go to Athens to visit a lot and the kids walk everywhere. This feels like something where you heard a story a couple times and are just applying it generally to every college kid.

Cincinnati: Walnut Hills / East Walnut Hills: Development and News
It takes time and density and people with money living there. The restaurants and bars will come first, but over time it'll attract more daily needs type stuff.

Cincinnati: Northside: Development and News
I'm not so sure. I own a car and, unfortunately, I drive it more than I'd like. I would happily walk to Hamilton Avenue to shop for groceries, even if it meant paying a couple bucks more. I walk to McKie to work out, even though I could drive to a bigger gym if I wanted. Several of my neighbors drive to Clifton Market because they prefer it to Kroger, and I think they'd walk to a similar establishment in Northside. We just need a much larger customer base than we currently have. EDIT: I'm partly basing my opinion on living in bigger cities where many people still owned cars but used them sparingly because they had many more options to walk to.

I hope so. I have dreams of the auto repair and sales places along Spring Grove being replaced with beautiful, dense apartment buildings.

Cincinnati: Northside: Development and News
The key to being able to have a successful bodega or smaller grocery in Northside is development, development, development. We need many more apartments in Northside badly.

Cincinnati: Northside: Development and News
Pennrose is redeveloping the site with a mixed use building. Retail with apartments on top. The Apple Street Market folks decided that Pennrose's concept wouldn't work for them because there wouldn't be enough parking to accommodate both apartments and the grocery store, among other reasons.

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
A look at building in the city over the past 4 years. Top 10 neighborhoods for residential building permits and total building permits from 2016 to 2019, with totals for each year. The neighborhoods are listed on the right side by rank for total number. Any surprises? Notice any trends? Northside doesn't have as many houses to fix up as it used to. Would like to see more multi-family projects there. Hyde Park is the king of residential projects. Evanston on an upward trend, which is not surprising. On the total building permit front, Downtown is dominant, followed by OTR. These include multi-family projects, which are categorized as "non-residential."

Cincinnati: Parking Modernization
Wait, what? I think we're talking past each other. What I'm saying is that you can go to Washington Park any day of the week, any time of day, and there are LOTS of spots open. Sure, the picture doesn't prove anything, but it gets to the point that there is not a parking problem in OTR. You could go take that picture every day and you'd only see a full garage like 5 days out of the year.

Cincinnati: Parking Modernization
Is that a bad thing? People who don't want to pay for the garage will park farther away where there is an abundance of parking available and people that are willing to pay will park closer. When I drive downtown (which is less often than I bike, bus, or take ride-share) I usually park north of Liberty or in the Betts-Longworth district on a street for free because I actually enjoy walking. Other people want to park closer to their destination so they pay.

Cincinnati: Parking Modernization
No it's not. Because you can go there just about any time of any day and there are multiple spots open.

Cincinnati: Parking Modernization
Monday at 2:51 PM, in the middle of the workday: Washington Park - 300 of 450 spaces available. Now I know some people are off today because it's the Monday before New Years. But that also means people have time to be out exploring. And the weather is clear today. And OTR residents who use their car to commute and park in Washington Park should be parked there today. Yet the garage is only 1/4 full. We do not have a parking problem in OTR. Or anywhere in Cincinnati for that matter.

Cincinnati: Parking Modernization
There was an event at Music Hall yesterday. And lots of people live around Washington Park and supposedly need garage parking. On the Sunday after Christmas, when many are not working, why weren't more of them parked here?

The photo really doesn't do it justice but they have moved a lot of dirt in the past couple of months. Definitely making progress.- Cincinnati: Interstate 75
That's not true. Trails were eligible for TIGER grants. When I worked in Philly we got multiple TIGER grants to help fund the Schuylkill River Trail.- Cincinnati: Interstate 75
Do you have more info on this? I wasn't in Cincy at the time so I haven't heard of this.- Cincinnati: Downtown: The Artistry

12/26. Construction of the mixed use building at the old school site on Monmouth. Don't remember the name of this project.- Cincinnati City Council
You're a riot with your fake indignation. Shoplifting is a second degree misdemeanor. DUI is a first degree misdemeanor. We have a president who has committed multiple felonies. But please tell us some more about how these text messages are an affront to all that is moral and good.- Ridiculous Density
These alleys and small streets are literally spread all across the city. Sure there is plenty of urban noise on main thoroughfares but there are tons of small, quaint blocks. No other American city has them at this scale. As for source, I'm talking about the many personal conversations I've had with current and former New Yorkers in Philly.- Cincinnati: Northside: Development and News
