  1. In Philly, the trolleys (their streetcars are called trolleys) do this in the downtown tunnel. They pull up and everyone gets off and then they pull forward to the area where the westbound passengers board. It makes the whole boarding/unboarding process much smoother than rush hour subway trains where people are trying to push themselves on the train while people are getting off.
  2. And Thomas Massie. Plus, you pay a higher state income tax. Aren't Republicans supposed to be about lower taxes?
  3. Tremont and Ohio City share a zip code so they count together. So I imagine it looks like this: 1. 45202 (Downtown/OTR) 2. 44113 (Ohio City/Tremont) 3. 44122 (Beachwood) 4. 45219 (Uptown)
  4. In fairness, I think this team would still be 0-5 with Lewis at the helm. The problems start higher up than the head coach.
  5. The WLW crowd has less and less influence in Hamilton County nowadays, thankfully. Their base has abandoned Kenwood and Blue Ash for the collar counties.
  6. I'd add that the best solution to this problem would've been not to build a 10 lane roadway in the first place.
  7. I don't think so. Same conversations happened in Philly, DC, and NYC when I lived out there.
  8. Is that so? https://www.savingcountrymusic.com/brawl-erupts-in-parking-lot-after-sam-hunt-concert-in-illinois/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/arts-and-entertainment/wp/2014/08/07/violence-tragedy-mass-arrests-what-is-going-on-with-country-music-concerts-this-summer/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wsjtu7ib7jQ http://www.cmt.com/news/1802741/eric-church-stands-toe-to-toe-with-fighting-fans/ https://countryrebel.com/blogs/videos/boxing-champ-pleads-guilty-to-kenny-chesney-concert-brawl-charges/
  9. Well, country music concerts attract a lot of sh*t human beings too. They're just out at Riverbend and get in their cars and drive drunk home instead of walking around downtown. And I say this as someone who enjoys going to both rap and country concerts.
  10. One of the articles about it talked about how they hauled out a ton of soil and brought in all new soil.
  11. I would feel this way if they tore down the Beast obviously or the Racers. But I'm not really that sad about this. Vortex beat you up pretty good even back in the 90s. And being pretty tall, I don't really fit in the seats at all. My knees are pinned against the seat in front of me (unless I sit in the front). It's prime real estate within the park and I'm actually pretty excited to see what they end up doing with it.
  12. Antique cars are back and the log flume is still there.
  13. The one time I had a porch pirate steal a package Amazon immediately sent me a new one, no questions asked. Any time I've returned a product the refund is immediate. The one time I ordered a TV and it showed up with a shattered screen I took it to the UPS store and Amazon sent a new one overnight. It's so convenient. I try to shop local as much as possible, but I'd much rather order a TV from Amazon than go to Best Buy.
  14. Well I personally think so. I know folks at SORTA. They have a very good staff there and do a lot with what little crumbs they currently get. I don't know what the details will be or which routes will be prioritized but I do believe we will get a good service and it will be based on best practices to the extent that is possible. And who is calling Metro Plus BRT lite? I don't think SORTA calls it that. I took Metro Plus yesterday and regularly take the 15x. Both work extremely well considering the resources we currently have. Honestly, just expanding the 15x hours and making it more frequent would make me increase my transit usage like 300%. I would never take an Uber downtown again and I'd rarely drive to work if the 15x came every 15 minutes for the bulk of the day.
  15. Leave it to Jake to emphatically state that the ITE are wrong about what BRT is and actually he knows best. Come on, man. You're arguing semantics here. Call it what you want. Metro will call it BRT and everyone else will too. And it'll be awesome.
  16. I'll add that Philly and Boston have busways too. You know, it is true that whatever we get in Cincinnati is unlikely to have dedicated lanes/busways along the entire route. But it is very likely we will get dedicated lanes for part of the routes, mass transit-like stations, off-board fare collection, frequent operations, siginal priority and BRT branding. Call it BRT. Call it Express. Call it whatever you want, but it'll be a vast improvement over the current options.
  17. Having dedicated lanes and signal priority between the business districts along Madison would still have a HUGE benefit. I drove from O'Bryonville to Madisonville recently during rush hour and it is a logjam at pretty much every light, not just in the business districts. Just looking at Google Maps traffic data right now, there are slowdowns near Easthill Ave, Vista Ave, Observatory/Dana, Erie, Edwards, and Eileen. And that's just between O'Bryonville and Oakley. And it's only 2:45 pm. The bus would also still get signal priority in the business districts, just not a special lane.
  18. I would imagine that it will only have to stop at the intersections where there will actually be cross-traffic. That's Liberty, Central Parkway, Sixth, Seventh, Third, and Second. So it can sail right through Fourth, Fifth, Eighth, Ninth, and Court downtown, plus all the intersections in OTR aside from Liberty.
  19. Right. That's why you don't dedicate a lane through the business districts. You dedicate a lane between them. You're not losing much in the grand scheme of things that way.
  20. The number of buses as a percentage of total vehicles isn't as important as total number of people crossing in buses. The 6, 21, 27, and 49 all cross the viaduct. I'm not even convinced that the WHV is as integral to the region as everyone claims it is. But one thing is definitely true, and that is that thousands of bus riders cross it daily.
  21. That's certainly not true. There are multiple good routes. Glenway, Reading, Hamilton, Madison, Montgomery. Our system of way-too-wide radial roadways is actually a benefit in this respect.
  22. This is a positive. And a casino is the only appropriate location for a Hard Rock Cafe. Certainly, better than the travesty of putting one of those huge tacky guitars on the historic icon that is Reading Terminal Market:
  23. Reminds me of the tailgating set up for OU games in Athens. The grass lot to the west of Richland and south of Schafer is termed "Tailgreat Park" and is the center of the tailgating action on game day. Makes for a really pleasant afternoon.
  24. Of course you misspell her name on purpose because you have the maturity level of a 12 year old boy. Anyway, I 100% support the hotel redevelopment--but I have to admit she raised some valid concerns here. There's very little evidence that convention centers are the economic engine that they are commonly believed to be. I would think someone who is supposedly a fiscal conservative would be happy that she's raising the issues. Also, I didn't vote for Dumas in the primary and I probably still wouldn't vote for her in a Democratic primary, but she seems to have gotten the hang of the job after a shaky start. She brings a different perspective to the county and that's refreshing.
  25. Approaching from the east on 4th I was a little taken aback by how massive it looks now.
