Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
So we've talked a lot about how it is difficult to judge population growth because of differing city size/metro size/urbanized area. And lots of people have shared their opinions on what is the best measure. I thought I'd throw one more into the fold. I looked at the top 100 largest cities in the US and their increase in population density between 2010 and 2018 (i.e. how many people have they gained or lost per square mile). Now, it is commonly accepted that Sunbelt cities are growing the fastest, but this measure presents some very different narratives. Here's the top 25. So Miami, Atlanta, Austin, Tampa, etc. are still up there. But this makes the traditional "legacy" cities look a lot better. San Fran, Jersey City (!), Boston, and NYC look much stronger, for example. And Columbus, is the 21st fastest growing city in the country by this measure (versus 24th by the traditional percentage change measure). And what about other Ohio cities? Well Cincinnati comes in 83rd, having added about 73 people per square mile this decade, while Cleveland comes in 97th out of 100, having lost about 168 people per square mile. Later today I'll compile the top 10 Ohio cities by population for comparison.

Banning drive-throughs
Right. I should've clarified I was just talking about transferring it to another location. If a drive-thru continues to be operated on this parcel then they have the right to operate in in perpetuity.

Banning drive-throughs
This is a HUGE crime and should be low hanging fruit for the city to change. Music Hall is CC-A for god sakes. Also, the city should do away with single-family zoning as well. I live in a SFD-2 zone but we have many multi-family buildings in the neighborhood because they have existed that way for a long time. There's no reason someone shouldn't be able to build multi-family when there are nice examples of it already in the neighborhood and also newer examples just a few blocks away in the community commercial district. And while we're at it, the manufacturing districts don't make sense either. Most of the southern portion of Northside is either ML or MG, which means the only residential allowed is if it is adjacent to existing residential (ML) or loft apartments (both ML and MG). That area has lots of residential already and the market is moving toward replacing more of the manufacturing with residential. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to build multi-family in a manufacturing zone.

Banning drive-throughs
The KFC/Taco Bell has been there since at least 2011 based on street view. Not sure how long before that. Drive-thrus are not transferable. EDIT: Based on Google Earth aerials, the KFC has been there since at least 1994.

Northern Kentucky: Random Development and News
The existing building will be commercial. The new construction will be apartments and they have already broken ground on those.

Bros
I'm 100% a bro. Can't deny it. We're not all bad. I've had multiple good friends admit that they never thought they would be friends with someone who "looks like" me. They meant they never thought they'd be friends with someone who wears tank tops, salmon shorts, and boat shoes.

Kings Island
Well there is also the Cedar Fair-owned Kings Dominion. Six Flags Over Georgia and Busch Gardens are also south of DC and north of Florida.

The signage in the skywalk will be accurate again.

That's what it looks like.

Cincinnati: Hyde Park: Development and News
Many of whom do not actually live in Cincinnati, including the Chair (Brad Lindner). Shouldn't you actually have to live in Cincinnati to be on the park board?

Cincinnati: Northside: Development and News
We bought a house in this area. Talked to someone who lives on Chase, but on the other side of Hamilton, and he said they used to call our part of the neighborhood "the war zone." It is amazing how much it has changed.

Three new permits issued yesterday for new construction SFD homes at 1323, 1325, and 1327 Knowlton. This is across from Knowlton Tavern and currently a big hole in the ground. Glad to see they are moving forward here. I wonder what these will go for?

DEPACincy replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentIt's not really my cup of tea, but there seems to be a lot of people who like it.

If they make the cornice nice and use high-quality materials, I actually don't hate it. But the placement is bad. Bring it up to the street and put the parking behind.

DEPACincy replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentThat's part of the gimmick. It's a speakeasy. People go there because there is no sign or anything.

Cincinnati: Northside: Development and News
I'm very familiar with this data and I can tell you it's complete horse crap. I recently moved from downtown to Northside. The streets downtown are rough in spots but do not compare to the clusterf*ck that we have in Northside. The street in front of my house is rated "excellent" and I can assure you it is far from it.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Convention Center / Hotel
Cities seem to chase conventions at all cost, but is it really worth the investment? It seems to be a bit like stadiums. Everybody wants to build one but they never really live up to the hype. In Philly, they destroyed 1/3rd of one of the largest Chinatowns in the country for their convention center. Chinatown is a huge tourist attraction and would be even better if it was still intact. They do a lot of convention business too, but was it worth this?

THIS. Why are all the streets in Hyde Park in such great shape but Mad Anthony is like driving in a developing country? Oh wait, no need to answer that.

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
It is true that the folks on 4th Street want the earnings tax to go down, but it is also true that many of them want a better bus system. They hear their employees telling them that they want better commuting options. They see a better bus system as a way to recruit more millennials to the region.

The Chamber is all in on improving the bus system. Their priorities align very well with BBC. Pete Metz is their transportation policy guy and he is a bus rider himself and a big transit advocate.

Cincinnati: Northside: Development and News
I 100% support BRT along Hamilton Avenue but I feel like it needs to operate more like a local service through the Northside business district. It can have limited stops, but I don't want to give up the parking lanes now that we've made them permanent. Having a row of cars there helps slow down motorists and provides a buffer for pedestrians. It also makes it feel like a destination instead of just somewhere to get through. I feel like replacing them with a BRT lane would revert it back to a speedway.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
The median household income in the US is $57,652. So a household making $50k is much closer to middle class than a household making $100k. I looked up our percentile rank one time on one of those online calculators and we were in like the 85th percentile. With student loans, it sure doesn't feel like the 85th percentile. I feel poor sometimes, but a lot of people where I grew up would say that we are rich. No one ever feels rich though, except maybe the ultra-wealthy.
