Cincinnati: I-71 Improvements / Uptown Access Project (MLK Interchange)
Agree to disagree. I drive it during rush hour all the time and it doesn't feel any less safe than other parts of the highway. I haven't seen the crash numbers but I'd be shocked if there are more here because of the lane dropping. If anything, the safety issue is created by having too many ramps in too short a distance. You could fix the safety issues without adding a lane, but adding a lane will ABSOLUTELY create more sprawl.

You might as well pay $40 and get a pass that's good around the clock.

Cincinnati: I-71 Improvements / Uptown Access Project (MLK Interchange)
Well it never goes down to two lanes because a lane comes in from the left, keeping it at three. I-71 is never just two through lanes anywhere in the region as far as I know? But yes this is a capacity increase, as jjakucyk pointed out. And yes, it will cause induced demand and more sprawl. And yes, your newly shortened commute will be be worse than it ever was just a few years after the project is finished. I agree that the interchange improvements are needed for safety, but adding another lane doesn't accomplish anything. I know the intent is not to induce more sprawl, but that's the practical outcome. You cannot fix congestion with more lanes.

Fixed number one for you.

Ohio Congressional Redistricting / Gerrymandering
The ACLU actually submitted a revised map as part of the suit. Not sure if the court would just order that map be used if the state can't come up with something in time. In PA the court drew the map itself when the governor and legislature couldn't come up with one in time.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Development and News
Why does the building need windows in the side? Almost every single building in downtown/OTR is windowless on the sides. They're all zero lot line and connected to the buildings next to them. Eventually there'll be a building right up against this one and it'll create a nice street wall.

I still think it is a deal. These kind of buildings are everywhere in Philly and Boston and they are some of the most desirable in those cities. I bet Richmond Street was beautiful in its heyday and I'd love to see someone redevelop those blocks in a way that returns it to its former glory. When I think about what it could be I am reminded of some of my favorite streets in Philly: https://goo.gl/maps/Jkn2WuBpCqbBbXmt8 https://goo.gl/maps/Vs1GLjtbxrJRzJGF6 https://goo.gl/maps/yxZVVgbnrQVKwZeC6

Cincinnati: John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge
Something I haven't seen answered in the news is whether or not it safe for people to be walking down the middle of it right now? If sandstone is falling off then I can't imagine it is safe to be walking on it. I'd like to see KYTC weigh in on that.

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
That's not true. It's still the most prominent thing in the square. I sometimes walk that way to work, even though it is out of my way, just to look at it.

Cincinnati: Liberty Street Road Diet
You got it, except during rush hour. During rush hour the parking on the south side will become a travel lane. So there will be no parking buffer between the sidewalk and the cars going 45 mph.

Note that the accompanying photo shows the original plan, not the 6-lane plan.

Old City is a good example to follow, IMO. 2nd Street has a reputation of being party central, and it certainly is on the weekends, but the neighborhood as a whole has a healthy mix of office, retail, residential, and institutional uses. And the architecture is superb. I think this is where OTR is headed.

Cincinnati: Conventions and Tourism News & Info
When I lived in Philly there were TONS of Asian tourists year round. I have noticed more Asian folks in Cincinnati in the past few months but not sure if they're tourists or residents. I know my apartment building downtown has a lot of South Asian families living in it.

I've recently noticed some of the Main Street bars have bigger crowds now during the week than they did when I moved here two years ago. The first time I stepped foot in a Main Street bar on a Wednesday night I was blown away that any of these places could stay in business. There was no one at any of those bars during the week. Now you usually see a small after work crowd at a lot of the places. This will only continue to get better as more apartments/condos open around the basin.

The team isn't entitled to a zoning change. No one is. Go buy a property zoned residential in Mason and try to redevelop it as something else. Tell me how that goes. If the city wants a zoning change they need to demonstrate that it is necessary and desirable. It is very reasonable for the city to consider the needs of the current residents there.

I hate to break it to you, but OTR is already a huge bachelor/bachelorette party destination. My sister just had hers there this past weekend. I'm going to a bachelor party in OTR this summer for a friend who is from Cleveland and lives in Columbus. He has no connection to Cincinnati but wanted to do his bachelor party here because it is close for most of the attendees and he has heard from other people that they had fun on a bachelor party here. Basically go out any weekend on Main Street and you'll see women wearing the bride/bridesmaid sashes stumbling around.

Definitely have never heard of it being called upscale. Older, yes. Suburban, definitely. Upscale, no.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Convention Center / Hotel
No, you're not wrong. I was a little too hasty in saying it should be demolished. You're right that it could be re-clad and become a very nice looking building. I'm all for re-purposing the existing structure if it is possible.

Right. I specifically meant the potential to have a head on collision.

Metro Cincinnati: Road & Highway News
Surely there are less crashes because it feels super dangerous, but when there is a crash they are automatically super deadly. And honestly I'd say a painted median would be just fine. Just put a few more feet between me and the car coming 65 mph in my direction.

The site is northwest of DAAP, across Clifton.

This. I'll go one further though. I'd rather have a decently attractive mid-rise or two than the ugly high-rise Millennium. It's very prominent from certain angles and is one of the ugliest buildings anywhere.

Metro Cincinnati: Road & Highway News
They should just eliminate the third eastbound lane and have two lanes in and two lanes out with a median in the middle. Driving in the inner lanes of Columbia Parkway is a harrowing experience and it is surprising there aren't more head-on collisions. Plus, I drove it out to Lunken yesterday during rush hour and there was a bit of delay but it really was not bad at all. The only choke points were at the stop lights, which has always happened anyway. People fly through Columbia-Tusculum like it's a highway when in reality it is the neighborhood business district. We should narrow the roadway to make people actually go 25 through there.

This makes a lot of sense. They also bought the Court Street Diner in Athens and are rebranding it as Hang Over Easy.
