No, when I say they can't make additional revenue, I mean they can't make any additional revenue. Ohio passed a law in 2019 that reduces state funding for municipalities by the amount they collect in speed camera revenue. So it eliminates that incentive. Good. That's what I want to happen. If it is borderline, next time they will stop instead of trying to beat it. Again, good. I don't care if no one is around. You should follow the law. Finally, good. They should've stopped sooner. No, these are examples where a police officer MIGHT not send a ticket or they might, depending on how they are feeling that day, or who the offender is, or what other implicit biases they may have. We know that Black people get tickets more often for the same violations. The cameras take that out of the equation. The law is the law and it should be applied equally.

You're talking about a statutory law, which can be changed. And that is exactly what people are advocating for. We're not talking about a constitutional right.

Also, courts have found that it is not a violation of due process. You have the chance to confront your accuser, who in this case is the officer who reviews the footage and issues the citation. They don't have to be present on site to do that. Other court rulings have also found that a civil violation and fine for speeding does not rise to the occasion of constitutionally protected due process. So it's really a moot point.

The balance the budget argument also doesn't make any sense since Ohio municipalities are not actually allowed to make additional revenue off of the cameras.
  5. Are you against a redesign of Central Parkway that would make it safer and more beautiful just because the FCC stadium is on Central Parkway?
  6. All of this, plus a front facing garage privatizes a public parking space, because no one but you can park their car in front of your garage.
  7. Yea I think maybe my statement was a bit rosey. But look at places like Chillicothe, which saw growth this past decade for the first time in like 60 years. That's meaningful and you can see it in their business districts. But yes, overall the large cities are doing better.
  8. I think this is right. Despite the legislatures' best efforts, cities and towns in Ohio are actually thriving, from the 3C's on down to many villages. Ride a bike along the Ohio to Erie trail and you pass through a ton of vibrant little towns with redeveloped centers. There's still a lot of work to be down, and some towns have been left out. But we have made great strides.
  9. Growing zones are not a great measure here. They have huge variations in temperature within a zone. The average January high in Cleveland is 34 degrees. In Nashville it is 47 degrees. April in Cleveland is 59, while Nashville is 71. Nashville has just over 50% more sunny days per year compared to Cleveland. That's a stark difference.
  10. We've been through this a million times but, to be clear, hot chicken existed since at least the 1970s and probably fifty years before that in the Black community. Prince's opened in the 1980s I believe? And it was very popular through Nashville by the 2000s. You keep making up this idea that it has only existed for like ten or fifteen years but it just isn't true.
  11. “To see those, those monkeys from those African countries—damn them, they’re still uncomfortable wearing shoes!” -Ronald Reagan "You start out in 1954 by saying, “Ni**er, ni**er, ni**er.” By 1968 you can’t say “ni**er”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Ni**er, ni**er.” -Lee Atwater
  12. You know I'm on board with that! Bring on the front porches. I love mine for sure.
  13. They look great. This should be legal on any lot in the city--by right.
  14. Do students really want to bring their cars? When I was in college it was pretty uncommon to have a car on campus for freshman and sophomores who lived in dorms. Juniors and seniors usually lived off campus so they had cars. Kids today show much less interest in driving and fewer even have driver's licenses than "back in my day."
  15. Agreed. And that's why they need to finish it with lots of housing, to add those round the clock residents. I think the demand is there, the city and county just have to figure out how to get out of the way.
  16. He's conspiratorial about everything.
  17. Holy Grail is busy every night if the week. The new place Filson seems to be also. Stretch and Jefferson Social do great happy hour business. Condado stays busy during dinner time. Tin Roof is mostly late night crowds and pretty dead during the week unless there's an event, but between the stadiums, arena, and concert venue there are a lot of events. They need to finish the Banks with some big housing developments but it's pretty good considering what was here just a decade or so ago. That census tract is the fastest growing in the city on a percentage basis.
  18. Be still my heart.
  19. A small clarification... Berding is advocating for this in his role as Chair of the CVB. It's not FC Cincinnati's plan. Obviously it would be good for them though.
  20. I don't think an NBA team or NHL team is coming to Cincinnati, but I do think Cincinnati would be a better NBA market than Columbus. Cincinnati can draw from basketball crazy Kentucky, with two metro areas that are already used to rooting for Cincinnati pro teams. An NBA team in Columbus would be competing directly with the Cavs. It wouldn't work for the same reason that an NHL team in Cincy would be a tough sell.
  21. Not exactly true. In the early 19th Century, Cincinnati was maybe the most dramatic boomtown in the country. The population almost tripled between 1810 and 1820. The crazy growth continued through most of the 19th Century.
  22. Yea, there is a huge surplus of structured parking in that area. Makes no sense to claim we need more.
  23. Dems were wrong then. Repubs are wrong now. Everyone should support fixing it. Next question.
  24. You could go up the middle of Spring Grove in a dedicated ROW.
  25. Do you have inside info? I haven't seen anything public about what percentage will be center running and what percentage will be mixed.
