Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I wasn't trying to imply that this would be the best thing that could ever possible happen in the Flats, but I think if it's well though out and tailored to Cleveland, a 'beach' could work. I'd use it.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Anyone ever been to Bayfront Park in Miami? They have an 'urban beach'...obviously the palm trees and Biscayne Bay are a little different than the Flats ;D , but I think it works there and don't see why it can't in Cleveland (this photo isn't mine...it's from this url: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=477774&page=138)

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
This sentence from the PD article posted yesterday leads me to believe this may be the brand they've designed the hotel around... "Developers have not announced the hotel brand, but they said today that the building is being designed for a specific occupant." They're nice hotels...I've stayed at the Uptown Charlotte location a few times. They're trendy but still reasonably priced. Like the baby brother of the W.

Am I the only one that thinks that the hotel portion looks like an Aloft? I'd take it ;D

Las Vegas: "Lessons Las Vegas can learn from the Rust Belt"
This article compares Las Vegas to Cleveland pretty negatively. More of the same old same old. Lessons Las Vegas can learn from the Rust Belt By J. Patrick Coolican (contact) Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009 | 2 a.m. The images streaming from Las Vegas during the past two years — foreclosed homes, long unemployment lines, unfinished eyesores on the Strip — must be shocking but also achingly familiar to many Americans. For although they’ve come to expect, from media images and their trips here, a dazzling Las Vegas of perpetual change, growth and prosperity, at the same time they know all too well the signs of economic decline. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/oct/11/lessons-las-vegas-can-learn-rust-belt/ (edit - fixed some weird copy/paste issue)

Charlotte: Baxter Village
Looks exactly like Daniel Island or I'On in Charleston. http://www.danielisland.com/Real-Estate/barfield-park.aspx http://www.ionvillage.com/architecture.html Many of the newer developments in the Charleston region are also emulating this style.

Charleston, SC
agreed! and for such a small city, the traffic can get god awful in the suburbanized areas of charleston (west ashley/james island). when i lived in west ashley, the 6 mile commute to downtown could take 45 minutes in the morning!

The 96-year-old market offers vegetables, fruit, baked goods, fish and ethnic foods. The other public spaces honored include New York's Central Park and Mellon Square in Pittsburgh. The suburban Cincinnati village of Mariemont was listed among the nation's top 10 great neighborhoods. The village founded in the 1920s by a philanthropist is considered a model of community design. Charleston, SC - part 1
I work at CofC, and I agree that the campus is quite beautiful. Too bad you didn't enjoy Folly Beach...the best part of Folly is that it is the only beach left in South Carolina that allows alcohol on the beach! Great shots!

Cleveland Eateries: A Where To Guide for Visitors and Residents
Esquire magazine called three Cleveland sandwiches "Best Sandwiches in America" (Trailer Park Monte Cristo at Beachland Ballroom, Corned Beef at Slyman's and Polish Boy at Freddie's Rib House). Not bad! http://www.esquire.com/features/food-drink/sandwiches Also worth noting, they called the McRib one of the best sandwiches  This Michael Symon sandwich looks pretty amazing too! http://www.esquire.com/features/recipes-for-men/michael-symon-0308

Michael Symon, Iron Chef
Michael Symon has just inked his first post-Iron Chef restaurant deal. The chef has committed to a consultancy deal with Starwood Hotels to open a restaurant in Detroit's Westin Book-Cadillac, a 1924 gem currently undergoing a $180 million renovation. The 120-seat restaurant is expected to open next fall. "It's an American brasserie themed around heritage meats," Symon explained. The highest quality beef, pork, lamb, bison, boar and other meats will be spit-roasted, wood-grilled, smoked, braised and cured. More at http://www.freetimes.com/stories/15/39/bites

Living in downtown Cleveland
That wasn't very much of a "tour" :| I'm really bad with the buildings (locations and names) in Cleveland. Does anyone know what building that guy lives in? I'm thinking he lives in the apartment building next to the Pinnacle? That's the Erie Building Lofts. They are on West 4th Street near the Pinnacle. I believe this is the same unit in the photos on their website: http://www.eriebuilding.com/

Five yrs ago I moved away from Cleveland, here's what I miss about it
There seems to be some common themes here... Things I miss about CLE Warehouse District/East 4th/Tremont/Ohio City restaurants/bars Living/working downtown Affordable downtown housing Constantino's Buildings more than a few stories tall Young people (you'd be surprised) Things I don't miss Overly self-deprecating people Gloomy winters Things I like about Charleston Historic district Walkable downtown The beach Restaurants Things I hate General slowness Hatred towards "yankees" Gloomy summers Expensive downtown housing Life revolving around social status Where are the young people?
