Cincinnati: West End: Development and News
It is crazy that it’s taken this long to develop the rest of the land. Wonder why. the Great Recession, four years of stinky plus covid. lots of things..

Cincinnati: University of Cincinnati: Development and News
seems to me this corner/center/congruence of The Universal Umphalus deserves lots of consideration as the point of destination. It is the crossroads (no pun intended) of Vine, Short Vine, Jefferson, Taft, Calhoun, and McMillan. CUD should be renamed CHUB, Clifton Heights Und Beyond. A nod to German ancestry. Some traffic engineers should get involved with the near and distant future of this area. For example, if a streetcar from CBD used Vine as a one-stop destination or maybe two; the Zoo. Future streetcar routes could be added as needed. Streetcars, buses, self-driving vehicles, personal autos, bikes, trikes, pedestrians, and possibly flying vehicles would be well served by a clear well-designed omni-usage concourse for all the different types of people movers that seem to be coming. The University, major hospitals, the Zoo, EPA, and last but not least the Innovation Center are all located in CHUB. So instead of building 4 rectangular dorms, the CHUB Hub would welcome travelers, seekers, the sick, and the oppressed. The introduction to the area should have a bit of flare/ambiance with concessions, air-conditioned waiting areas or at least out of the weather, and appropriate consideration for pedestrians. And behind it should stand an impressive structure. In this case a monumental dormitory.

a tent city for the homeless. next to the back door where you get "free of charge" PB&J sandwiches. add a few porta-potties, several changing rooms, and a guidance counselor. you have yourself a closer walk with thee.

several CVS and Walgreens have closed along the Colerain Groesbeck area. I remember many drug stores were going up about 10 - 15 years ago for all of us boomers. I guess we didn't make it.

#UCgrad2015 Wouldn't surprise me if they try to gear it towards college students then try to get them to join their church. it says, "get the college "freshmen" students" right in the handbook. and goes on to say, "hold the pickle, hold thee letus just the boyger and the special sauce". doesn't rhyme but you get the idea.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Fort Washington Way Cap
Fort Washington Way misses out on funding again. I’m sure we’ve talked about this but can some funds from the railroad sale help fund these? I know it’s for existing infrastructure but Washington way was built so that caps could be put on so technically part of this project already exists. back in the day it was pay the $47 million now or deal with the increase in the future. so we (hamilton county or state of ohio ?) paid and we got nada.

Cincinnati: University of Cincinnati: Development and News
"They could build a bus-only connection here between W. Clifton and Clifton which would enable the #17 to avoid the top-of-Wheeler hirsutism." i used to live on Wheeler and never had any problem with hirsutism. and, Wheeler is an entire block away from the existing brutalist building we are talking about. If uc decides to demolish the facade that is built surrounding the Taft structure, i can appreciate the forward if not avant-garde approach. it is much more daring than Frank Gehry, Daniel Libeskind, or Zaha Hadid. For me it is much better than a park.

Cincinnati: University of Cincinnati: Development and News
no you are not. i always liked the building myself. and your description of the brutalist design elements being softened by the nestling trees was spot on. UCs civics department could take over that building and teach people how to treat their neighbors. Or, even better it could be used as a dispensary for red and blue pills.

i apologize if i said something you/you disagree with or maybe misunderstood because of my poor communication skills/your comprehension skills. hey, i do my best. i'll meet you halfway. some of us get out of bed on the grumpie side. we/they take their problems and blame their stumbling blocks on others. some people stand on their soap box and scream into the night hoping someone or even an echo responds. i hope all of the readers of urban ohio understand that american life is stressful because... well who knows why. but, the next time you feel the need to express your opinion on some blog about an opinion you disagree with sit back, take a deep breath, and think to yourself, maybe i just misunderstood.

Cincinnati: University of Cincinnati: Development and News
you see, uc, i didn't "come to the conclusion" that student housing isn't as critical as thought. I made an observation. people like 646empire said, "With the amount of housing that’s needed up there and prices the students and parents are paying you would think Clifton would have 15 cranes in the air. Makes you think they don’t actually want to solve the issue….. and The Cincinnati Kid himself said, "The University of Cincinnati will use a pair of block leases at off-campus apartment complexes to add nearly 1,200 net new student beds hoping to accommodate burgeoning student-housing demand. The UC board of trustees at its Feb. 27 meeting, facing record enrollment and staring down another massive freshman class, approved $108.5 million to sign the new block leases beginning in fall 2024. The larger lease is in the Deacon at 424 Straight St., where UC will lease and manage the entire building – including all 1,029 of its beds – for a lease term of five years with one two-year option. The total lease, including the renewal option, will cost $88.4 million." Although at times, i am a little bombastic with my verbiage on these and other posts, these 2 posts are my references. And, $7.5 million seems like a lot of money to me. You can also tear it down when they need to tear it down. saving the millions.

well, it's a nice park. guess the need for student housing isn't as critical as thought. but just think if uc did build a dorm complex that would incentivise the deacon thingy to build bigger, faster and taller.

Cincinnati: West End: Development and News
i want a new arena on Central Parkway at the CET location. I want the rich to spend their money on something that the poor can buy a ticket once a year and gaze upon the wonders of man/woman. I dont want the NCAA to turn down Cincy because they don't like our old arena. I don't want the Olympic committee to turn down the city because we don't have hotels or arenas that can't accommadate the throngs of money spending rich people. I don't want a convention center that is too small to rent for 75% of conventions. I don't want people to believe that another 4 story appartment complex is going to solve the housing crisis. Seems to me the rich want more apartment complexes because they make more money off an apartment complex than they do a single family home. I don't want 5 lane major streets turned into two lane streets for cars and two lanes for bicycles. FC Cincinnati and team have turned the corner of Liberty and Central Park into a lively productive area of town with building happening all around. Look at the difference with Findlay Market. Look what Sam Adams has done to their property and the FC Village is coming soon. The people that will build another 4 story apartment complex are rich, too. Not for a minute would those rich people invest in another apartment complex, if they didn't think they were going to get richer.

Cincinnati: Potential New Arena
i hope you are not suggesting the people of Cincinnati should somehow subsidize construction of a new facility for cet. But let's just suppose they do. the people who are building new and expanding the presence of Cincy on the world map these days is Bering and his bosses. I could see building a bigger taller buiding as part of the proposed soccer village for cet and its needs. If i had to guess, in the near future it will not matter where a building is located. it will probably be more important to have the latest and greatest technologies up and running to stay ahead of tsunami of time. In 1901 there were few if any hard surfaced roads and railroads were the tycoons of progress. In 2001 we have crowded interstates and railroads are just in the way. In 2101 you will be able to broadcast from anywhere. oops!

Cincinnati: Potential New Arena
the only thing i will miss when the cet building is demoed is the fun happy laughing faces. it looks like a big box store. and the only time ive ever seen a parking lot like this one is outside of rome. sometimes fast food drive thru is lost at sea.

Cincinnati: Mt. Adams: Development and News
in 2010 the population of mt. adams was...1491. it'll be crowded, windy and wet. but a great place to watch labor day fireworks.

Cincinnati: Potential New Arena
that is cincinnati, never put off tomorrow what you can put off for 3 or 4 or 8 to 10 years. by the looks of it that bit of land will house tons of supplies and road building equipment for years. where is the onsite parking? how will the ramps and traffic around the arena coincide with the existing streets? I doubt the interstate highway people will allow any building there before the ramps are complete. how you gonna build a 17000 seat arena using Central Ave as your only egress? What will the fire department and fourth street have to say about this? the arena will be known as the wicked witch of the west-side. wart and all.

Cincinnati: Potential New Arena
How about keeping it on Liberty. This spot i proposed several years ago is diagonal from TQL Stadium. Great access to I75, plenty of room to expand and it improves the westend. No important historic buildings will be destroyed, links the Linn St area closer to CBD. Now you have room for more parking garages, more TQL village, would start the connection of queensgate to CBD. In addition, all those proposed I75 covers (which will never happen) become just a big waste of money.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Carew Tower
i was in that building years ago. my first impression was how small the offices were. The construction world went in more of a "open plan layout" for living spaces. i wonder if you can gut those floors to accommadate the 21C.

build it and they will come.. out of the cornfields of ohio and horse farms of kentucky

Cincinnati: Potential New Arena
before they tear down those two buildings (possible historic value) consider incorporating the garage around the buildings like the renderings of the East End Loft Project.

Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
Isn't this putting the horse before the cart? 40 years to get the money and it's held up because of 185 ft. And if they don't buy the building, they have to redesign the entire project. Sweet.
