  1. I live Downtown without a car, and I generally will take car share if I really need to get Steelyard. The suburban style shopping center was kind of a flop in my opinion. Its not super accessible for a lot of people in neighborhoods literally a stone throw away.
  2. The 5th Street Arcade is really great (better as far as retail compared to the other Arcade). There's lots of little great shops and eateries in there. It'd be kind of cool to have another "mall" space like that.
  3. It really has to be well executed. If it has real park amenities it could be amazing, like a dog park, tennis courts, a baseball diamond, playground, whatever. It can't just be grass and a sidewalk with a few trees. Edit - what would be really amazing, although I don't know if it is at all realistic, but some sort of pedestrian infrastructure to connect to the neighborhood to Steelyard. To get to the Walmart from Metroheaalth its a 30 minute walk.
  4. I think that the issue with health campuses is that they're so insular. They have dining options within so many employees don't have to leave. I have friends who work at Metro, UH, the Clinic, etc. They leave sometimes if they get the chance to grab a bite, but also a lot of them don't get "breaks" where they can sit down and eat. One of my classes is working with Metro Health for economic development along W. 25th. There's so much potential. Also, if the area had a big park it could potentially draw in MetroHealth employees with kids.
  5. I really like the building. I like the brick. I do not like the light siding on La Collina. I think that the entire front should have been brick.
  6. I don't think that its excessive per se. It has the potential to be well designed, and have public areas for the neighborhood in addition to areas for patients only. This area is really rundown, and the green space and new hospital could be catalytic in redevelopment. There's a need for employee housing, affordable housing for nearby residents, and retail. MetroHealth, Metro West, and others are working really hard to improve the area. A large park would be an asset to the neighborhood.
  7. American Trolley/Street Car systems have been really hit-or-miss except for a few notable examples. Our trolley bus system is a pretty decent system without unnecessary added infrastructure costs. They hit most of downtown attractions and have really good ridership with high frequency.
  8. I just looked at the plans again on the CPC Agenda. I guess the location isn't terrible, but could it not be a bit smaller? Maybe 4 lanes? They also should add a lighted cross walk at High St like there is for 4th street. This area will always be a traffic nightmare during events (hence why RTA wanted to move some routes to Superior).
  9. This is a good point. However, it still seems excessive. I would rather have the curb cut on Huron, which is already dominated by parking garages in that immediate area than on E. 4th where we should try to continue the pedestrian friendly vibe from one of the city's best assets.
  10. The meetings are open for public commentary as well. They ask for those who are for/against the project. Could be a good time to voice any design concerns. There are pedestrian overlays that have restrictions over curb cuts, and such. I'm sure it'll be touched upon [hopefully]?
  11. I honestly feel like Cleveland really lacks green space. I don't even know how we can be called the forest city anymore when our tree canopy is around, what, 19%?, and it's continuing to decline. We can't develop as a city by just converting vacant buildings to apartments and building fancy new buildings. I think we need to be adding a lot more green space to the mix. In the extensive traveling that I've done, I'm always underwhelmed when I come back to Cleveland and the lack of green space. I just interviewed for a job in Portland and their Downtown feels like a forest. There's so many trees and so much green space. Totally a different vibe. I wish Cleveland had an aggressive tree policy like they do.
  12. Is this the correct thread for the apartment developments? I haven't see this posted, but I just saw the rents and they're really low for how nice they are + amentities. Apartments.Com Terminal Tower
  13. DC doesn't have super tall buildings, but its still a breathtaking and amazing city. There's cool new developments among the historic architecture. There's plenty of cities with shorter skylines that don't have super tall buildings. I like Old Jaffa a lot more than Downtown Tel Aviv. ?. The Nucleus is far better being constructed as its planned now than not at all, plus the building designs are vastly improved over the old ugly buildings. Could still use some tweaking, but not sure why people are whining over the reduced height.
  14. Impose a tax that makes it not as financially appealing and route the money to RTA, haha.
  15. That's my thought process. That's why I don't mind places like Shake Shack and chains in addition to our amazing local eateries. There's always going to be the tourist that goes to Olive Garden in Times Square.
  16. In a city with as rich of a history as Cleveland you would think it would be pretty easy to find better naming conventions than something cheesy like Thunderbird. There is indigenous symbology for the thunderbird in the Great Lakes region but I’m not sure if that’s what they’re going with? Hopefully. What does it mean for development that site A is under contract?
  17. With the right development and planning I think it could improve a lot. It’s basically a blank canvas. With something transformational like thunderbird (hate the name so much lol) it could really help. But yeah I’ve gotten turned around down there going between my apartment downtown and my friends place in the West Bank.
  18. Are you factoring in the lower entrance to TC on Canal Rd? Its not super far, but its not very attractive to pedestrians.
  19. They trolleys have corporate and civic sponsorship to alleviate costs and make them free. http://www.riderta.com/news/rta-transit-leader-selling-naming-rights-sponsorships Ridership when it first began was around 375,000 and now the trolley service provides about 1,500,000 rides a year.
  20. A trolley route to connect to Ohio city has been a very frequent request for RTA. Once FEB is built up and if Scranton gets built up I'm sure that it could be a real possibility to have a trolley run through the flats from RTA HQ to Westside Market. Edit: downside would be bridges raising for barges lol. Could just loops around the peninsula, but it'd be very attractive to connect to WS market/provide access to the redline.
  21. The thing that sucks about this area is that the transit access isn't super strong although its close-ish to a lot of transit. Maybe if it's built up something can serve it as a connector to Downtown or W. 25th.
  22. The more entertainment venues / attractions Downtown can get, the better. It'll make the area more viable in the long run. Can't rely on bars and restaurants. The flats really needs something to anchor it too. I was just there this weekend and it was pretty busy, but not as busy as it could be. E. 4th is already pretty healthy, but it won't hurt to have another attraction.
  23. Suburbs are really having to compete with Cleveland, and its great.
  24. They're attracting the bored empty nesters from Chagrin Falls and Brecksville.
  25. I really hope the "Cleveland Live!" makes it into this still. That kind of venue would be perfect in the area. I've been to a few of their venues and they're really cool. Would be a nice attraction for downtown.
