  1. My observation and frustration comes from the front page of the PD (we get it at work, so I scan through it on my down time)...At the bottom they had a blurb on the longest commute times in major cities, Cleveland rated as one of the least congeseted...Instead of this being a positive, they just make jokes about possible bumper stickers, for example: "Cleveland, we are fat and poor, but at least we don't have to wait in traffic." Come on now...This is 3rd grader stuff, and I know 3rd grade stuff, and yes, I wrote a letter, not that it matters... It is starting to get annoying all the negativity around this region...

Why doesn't Jackson have a PR spokesperson, if he does, why am I not aware of him/her? Just someone to meet with the press (Tony Snow anyone?)...I am fine with Jackson not coming out publicly, but it would be nice for someone in the mayor's office to come out and say they are working on the issues and things aren't as bad as them seem...

Good...He should be...I want my mayor to be angry at them...Keep it up Jackson... Wouldn't that be because the local "paper" spends more time on the gunfights then what is really going on in the city...Maybe if they cover the mayor, we would know about him... I wrote a short letter to the "paper" urging them to explore the other side of Cleveland...The one where residents are not scared to leave their house and have great neighbors...Where streets are clean and kids play outside...The 90% of Cleveland that is safe and great...
  7. Good for Mayor Jackson and the region...He gets a lot of bad press, but seems to be getting A LOT of things done...I like the water idea, it is smart, using what the city has to leverage support... I couldn't find an article on here, but a week ago they did a piece on the mayor of Westlake trying to block the building of a new exchange in Avon because it would steal their businesses...A lot of pieces seem to be falling into place, interesting to see how "regionalism" will play out here in the near future... Other than attend rallies and word of mouth, what can a mere peasant do to help the cause?
  8. I am in Ward 16, Kevin Kelley,...Though, I THOUGHT I heard heard that 15/16 where going to merge...Kinda like the Development corp... Thanks, I emailed them to find out...
  9. Does anyone know when the next ward meetings is? I have been looking around this internet thing, but have yet to find it...Sorry for the stupid question, but I seriously can not find it anywhere...
  10. The certification process should take a couple of weeks. I doubt they will get it. They had petitions to fix school funding so it wasn't so heavy on property tax, they couldn't even get that, it was a good idea and that is ALL people ever complain about. People, sadly, are generally lazy, I will be shocked if they get it... The only petitions that ever get signed are to bring back bad tv shows on the internet...
  11. In the process of, if you don't mind me asking...
  12. I would like to see the old go kart place turned into a little park or community area/square...I think just cleaning up that corner could do a lot for downtown...and put lot of "Cleveland Only" type places down there...A Hotsauce Williams, sylmans, Whatever the best pizza place is in Cleveland...A mini GLBC bar...A really nice pierogi dinner/coffee joint...A reallllllly good hot dog shop...A sonic (They advertise around here enough, about time we get one)...stuff like that...Wouldn't be bad to get a Cleveland memorabilia store like the one in the arcade in one of those storefronts... Memphis has a ton of bars, don't think downtown need a bunch more...
  13. Seems with the sheer amount of visitors and traffic on that road it could support more than what is there... I would happy to get that old go kart place torn down... or at least the sign...
  14. The rest of the city is pretty well kept, it confuses me why the downtown looks like that. I always thought a Mally's down there for the zoo people alone would draw some other stores around it. Could be such a nice downtown with just a little work... Does anyone know where/when the next OB ward 16 meeting is? Has anyone eaten at Theo's? I have driven past that place a million times and never been in...

The way I see it was he was elected because he was so "private" and not in the news like Campbell. I honestly think he has no chance, no matter what he does. The media doesn't like him, which will equate to tons of purely negative press coverage, which equals the people won't like him. For some reason in Cleveland, if the results aren't instant, they get frustrated and want change. See any sports team in the city, it is the same mentality. They just don't trust the leadership to lead even though WE elect them. Cleveland, the county, whatever, It is confusing. For the record, I am indifferent to him and the only reason I am some what informed on the workings and happenings of this city is because of this site. Every Clevelander should be required to spend at least 8 hours studying UO.

It is just frustrating to listen too...There is not point in calling in to those people, it is shock radio…You can have the best point in the world, they are not going to listen…I am just sorry I turned on their station today…I rarely listen to music (FM), 1350 was nice before they went back to the all sports programming...As for Munch, he has great things to say about the Cleveland area and generally isn’t bad to listen to, but there is only so much sports talk radio I can take...Just wish there was someone to compete against 1100 on the drive home... It though was seriously maddening to hear a Cleveland COP on the radio today say he does not feel safe in Cleveland...I just don't see it...My part time jobs takes me all over Cleveland, in and out of some of the worst neighborhoods and streets...I have never once encountered a group of "thugs" walking in the middle of the street...I have never been harassed, and I am about as white as they come...I usually have a couple hundred dollars worth of tools in my truck, you know how many I have had stolen? None! They make it seem like Cleveland is the location for the new Mad Max movie…Like a gang of thugs are collecting tolls on the way into the city and checking your street creed making sure you are “dope” enough…

This is more of a rant than anything else, but this is what we have to put up with around here...Wonder why everyone from the 'burbs thinks Cleveland is a hole in the ground...That station does more single handily to give Cleveland a bad name and scare people off than any other factor I can think of...All they do is misrepresent facts...I feel dirty for just having listened to them... Right now they have cops on the air talking how THEY are scared to live in the city... :? I just don't get it...The worst part is there is no other local news to compete with them during the drive time...

  19. Honestly, it is just my best guess from the street I am on and the research I have done. There are several other "Sears Roebuck" houses on my street, including one beautiful restored "Crescent." http://architecture.about.com/library/nbungalowplan-s-3086-crescent.htm This is one of the most gorgeous houses on my street. Very nice rehab on this house. Though, I think mine is more of a Sears inspired house, I have yet to find another one that looks remotely like mine in O.B. (Based off the HIP roof mostly) Being fairly new to the area, I am not sure how many "Sears" houses there are in Cleveland. So, I may be completely off, but it looks like a pretty good guess to me. Note: Didn't get to the update before my CA trip, I'll get to it in August...
  20. I live in Old Brooklyn by Rhodes High School. Nice neighborhood, not a lot of abandonment, but there is starting to be a lot of section 8/rental properties in the area. A lot of people from the burbs buy a cheap house, do minimal work and then put it up to rent. The front, is pretty much done, minus some flowers and a porch swing I am building. I have a hip roof, so it encloses the porch pretty nice, I really cannot enlarge it without changing the actual roof line. So, I am pretty much stuck with it. Originally, I wanted to put a dormer on the second floor to use as a master bedroom, but after removing the insulation I discovered, to much dismay, that the rafters were 2x4's. After consulting several "experts" everyone felt best to leave as is. So, now it is a small closet/computer room. As for the walk way, it is hard to tell, but most of it sandstone. I kinda like the way it is, so unless I win the lottery, it is probably staying the same too. Unfortunately most of my decisions come down to money and a budget. I am doing it all out of pocket, seen to many houses lost to home loans.
  21. Originally I planed on it, but a budget is a budget and didn't seem like I was going to gain that much with the wood, AND they poured the iron supports with the concrete? The house is really weird, half the basement has Michigan style walls (converted crawl space), but the other half is a full basement. Not to often do you see that. So, at some point, someone did a lot of work on the house (40's-50's). I have tried to research it, but I cannot find the correct office to go to. Library and the "hall o' records" (country auditory) had nothing. Most of mine was from Home Depot/lowes, and I have access to a full wood shop, so anything one-off, I could make myself. That helped a lot. These old houses can be a little tricky at times. Different standards now from then. Supposedly, somewhere in Cleveland there is a store that sales old savaged items from houses in Cleveland (baseboards, moldings, handles), But I have yet been able to find it. At least a dozen people have told me about this store, but NO ONE knows where it is at. My buddy just bought a double two streets down from me, paid 38K for it. It's on a great street, talk about a bargain. Even if you put 30K into it, you still have a 68K house.
  22. Well, it's been 2 years since I bought this house, It was a MESS when I got it. Pretty much everything needed redone. It is a 1929 Sears Roebuck Bungalow, to be exact it is a Josephine, with some modifications from the original build. Here is the original order form for the house: http://architecture.about.com/library/nbungalowplan-s-7044-josephine.htm Though the auditor lists the house at being built in 59, I am 99 percent sure that is incorrect. Anyway, it is 950 sq. ft. 2 bedroom with a sweet new 550 sq ft. garage off the back. I paid 58K for her 2 years ago, and minus the new roof, I have only about 5K invested in the rehab. I am about 80 percent done with the restoration. I have the kitchen left and a little in the bathroom still, but the rest is pretty much done. Here are some before and after pic's of the outside and the work that has been done this summer. If anyone is interested, I documented the inside process pretty good and would love to share it. Anyway here is a taste of how I am helping and fixing my little part of Cleveland. THE FRONT Here is the house before, probably the ugliest gray color I have ever seen. The house looked a lot like a dirty battle ship. Very sad to look at. Another view of the before, That black stuff wouldn't come off no matter what I did. Would love to know what that stuff is/was. This is the outside as of today, after a good power wash and a couple coats of paint. Overall, for the three colors, it cost me right around 250.00 to do the entire house. The most expensive part of the project was the wood to box the polls in. Cedar siding has become very expensive and hard to find as of late. A brighter blue than I thought, but overall I like it. THE BACK This pictures make the back yard look nice compared to the shape it was in. My brother, who does landscaping, said it was the worst yard he has ever seen. There isn't much money in the yard, but a lot of sweat equity. This is after tilling the yard and new seed, Penn State Green. I had over 450 lbs of metal and metal fencing that was removed from the yard. I also have a small fortune in sandstone that was buried erratically throughout the lot. Just another view of the back, I think it looks pretty good. That beautiful garage is why I bought the house. It is amazing. Let me know what you think, Always looking to hear opinions or advice from people.
  23. Not that anyone cares, but this was the 3rd oldest BW3, the original two in Cbus (which are closed), The Cleveland one was the first expansion/franchise followed by the one in Akron. Bdubs is also on the list for the 10 fastest growing restaurant/food chains...
  24. Best quote to sum up what's going on here. IMO, In the end, this was just a back door deal to bail out Jacob's, nothing more. I hope in the end, this some how works out...
  25. I understand that, Those were just my local examples of backwards priorities around this city/region, I'll edit it to clear it up. Everyone should be outraged, but they won't be, it will be just viewed (by the burbs) as another way Cleveland wasted "their" money.
