Cleveland Eateries: A Where To Guide for Visitors and Residents
Well I tried Machu Picchu... http://www.machupicchucleveland.com/ I wasn't too impressed with the food. Talk about a sweet ice tea, my teeth are still recovering, but worth a try if you go there...My order came with French fries; maybe I was looking for something a little more "Peruvian-style". Possible one of the worst salads I have ever had in my life. On a good note, the restaurant itself was very nice. Great feel to it and very cozy. I am hoping it was just what I tried and plan on giving it one more opportunity. I went with another couple and both had about the same to say. Food was so so, but the atmosphere was great. For a 15.00 dollar plate I was just expecting more. Anyone else had a better experience there?

Cleveland: Random Development and News
They need a new school, but it will never happen. The school was built for maybe a 1,000 students. When I started working there 5 years ago, there were 1,100 kids at the school, this year we started at 1,850 and projected to be over 2,000 by 2010...and NR also has arguably the worst city services of any town in NE Ohio, except for the schools... ------ I looked through a couple of threads and couldn't find anything, but what is the deal with the GIANT sign on public-square across from the sailors memorial on Euclid that says, Don't Open Till January?

Cleveland Eateries: A Where To Guide for Visitors and Residents
Anyone here been to the New York spaghetti house? I was just wondering if it was worth the trip... If not OR so, any other new Cleveland eatery recommendations that are must tries? O, Is there a good website for local dinner reviews? I usually check out plugged in Cleveland, Cleveland nights and of course here (which is probably the best so far) just wanna make sure I am not missing anything better...

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I was lucky enough to be picked for jury duty downtown this week. I was wondering what the best and cheapest way, other than driving, would be to get down there during rush hour traffic. I live on the west side by Biddolph and Fulton. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Homes You Feel Sorry For
Salvic Village and the Polish District... The two houses on each side where gone, She has been used by homeless people lately... Just another view...Sad... Just in case you don't know where the phone goes... At the end of the street a new development... Site Map... Burned out garage... Big hole in the roof... Two more side by side boarded up... A couple of these houses are up for auction at http://www.williamsauction.com/auctions_list.php?state=OH&PHPSESSID=5d64dc3aa72b1137567e7b0d39a3ff02 Most of them go for less than $5,000...My new idea is these houses should be given away to out of towners...A come to Cleveland, free housing campaign...If you have a certain credit score, will live in the house for 5 years, and are willing to fix the house up to code, you can have the house and land for free...Most of these house have been sitting for 3-4 years. This week is the West Side near Metro Health...

A couple more houses I had to winterize today in Lakewood & the westside of Cleveland... Inside - House wasn't to badly beat up, but it wasn't pretty either... Just a couple blocks down on Elmwood, I did three houses on this street today... Inside was in terrible shape, this houses should be torn down... Nice little duplex with a big problem... Just a cool looking radiant heater... Anyone see a problem? Just a couple shots from some Denision houses... A picture of a building on my way back home... Tomorrow is North Olmsted and Olmsted Falls...

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
http://www.cleveland.com/sun/brooklynsunjournal/index.ssf?/base/news-0/1157647414142390.xml&coll=3 Good article...Not to sound dumb, but what exactly does this mean. It says the 7th busiest route, yet you cannot tell, at least form the Old Brooklyn side that RTA even knows were OB is, in any case that is what I see living here. Any other insight that didn't make it into the article that you care to share? EDITED DUE TO COPYRIGHT POLICIES

The Cleveland Photo Trivia Thread (Updated April 4, 2007)
2. Is the Cleveland Convention Center, carved in stone around the top is: "A monument conceived as a tribute to the ideals of Cleveland. Builded by her citizens and dedicated to social progress, industrial achievement and civic interest." I have no idea about the other two. I'll wait to post a pic and see if anyone else can get the other two first.

Most Dangerous Ohio City
I wouldn't attach color to this situation; it has more to do with income then color. I do admit that the African American culture has a lack of role models right now, but so does everyone, no matter the color. In a society today when we do more research in the tv we are going to buy, than the people we elect to office. Do you really think things will change if we keep that attitude up? We have made the “rich and famous” almost like gods in society today. (Which they don’t disserve, most only have a high school education). We teach our kids it is better to be a football player than a scientist, talk about misplaced values in our culture. Unfortunately things are going to get A LOT worse than better. Poverty isn’t something you can fix very easy, and it was the one thing you cannot through money at to fix. I would be happy to debate that point with any one. I believe education and schools is the key to this problem. To bad we are running them into the ground. Reminds me of an episode of The Boondocks, "Return Of The King": http://www.theboondockstv.com/. It is a good show/comic strip, deals with a lot of issues talked about here. Aaron McGruder in his own right is doing a lot to bring to light the problems in culture today. Excuse my use of wikipedia, but here is info about the ep: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_of_The_King_(Boondocks_episode)

Cleveland: What about Old Brooklyn?
I live over in OB, I have been here for almost a year. Some of the houses need some work around here, but you can get a really good deal and still live in a decent neighborhood. It seems every street in OB is great, minus one house. Like on my street, two houses down there is that one section 8 houses. They don’t cause any problems, but you can tell it is section 8. It doesn't bother me, I just it as part of leaving in the city. The downtown needs some MAJOR work, but other than that, I love it hear. My buddy bought a house on the end of my street cause he liked it so much. It puzzles me though with so many people that go to the zoo that the downtown can be that bad. I don’t think it will be like every other Cleveland neighborhood in 10 years. It is just your typical blue-collar neighborhood. It’s no Westlake, but it is much better than leaving in Parma.

Cleveland: Steelyard Commons
This is a very interesting thread. There is two points I would like to make: 1. We as a nation don't make anything anymore. The private non-good producing industries account for approximately 70% of total economic activity in the US. http://www.census.gov/econ/www/servmenu.html These non-good producing industries include retail trade, wholesale trade, and the service industries. The loss of manufacturing will mean the loss of the middle class. There is nothing around it. I believe there be a time in the short future we will revert back to manufacturing. There has to be, we cannot sustain ourselves like this. 2. Now, with that being said, I am not against SYC. I think it will provide a vital amenity for the surrounding neighborhoods. I live in Old Brooklyn, and if I want to do any shopping, lets say Lowes or even Koles. I am off to Parma. This at least lets me shop in the city. There is pretty much 0 percent shopping options, especially in OB. No grocery stores, no retail, no nothing. I have to go to Parma for everything. If it is used to keep people shopping in the city, I like it. We all go to these places anyway, the difference now is it will be in Cleveland. Let’s be honest about another thing. Everyone wants to attract people from the suburbs, to do that you have to offer something they are accustomed to. This kinda retail is it. My spending habits will be EXACTLY the same; now instead of Parma getting my money it will be Cleveland.

Homes You Feel Sorry For
Man that is a nice house. :? For a second job I clean out repod houses in the CLE/Cuyahoga area, I can post a ton of pics of nice houses that fall into dismay. I just did one in Rocky River. Some guy bought this house in 2000 and didn't make one payment and JUST got kicked out 2 months ago. Pretty nice situations eh? This house had 4 fireplaces and two BEAUTIFUL oak sprial stairs, these pics don't do it justice. They are asking 305K for the house, but they said the would probably take low 200K for it. If anyone is into or interested in house rehabing, I in the process of doing one in Cleveland (My first house) I got a ton of pics and stories that go along with it. Let me know...

Cleveland's Hulett iron ore unloaders
Anyone go to this? Any news? I wish I could have gone. I have a HUGE fascination with the Hulett's. Man, I wish I moved to CLE while those things were still running, must have been impressive to see.

Cleveland Eateries: A Where To Guide for Visitors and Residents
Well I ended up Trattoria. By no means the best service in the world, but they do have the best eggplant in Cleveland. Little Italy has to be hands down the best place to take a date in Cleveland. It looked like they opened up two wine bars in LI, does anyone know anything about them. They looked real trendy, Not sure if it fit with the neighborhood to well. Also, what's up with the Mayfield Civic Center? That place looks sweet; can they not find anything to do with it? Looks like a sweet place for concerts and stuff, kinda like the Akron Civic Theater. Way to neat to be left in that condition.

Euclid Avenue Memories
Does anyone have or know where they can point me to find some old pics of Euclid Ave?

Cleveland Eateries: A Where To Guide for Visitors and Residents
I am torn between Metropolitan and Trattoria. I have been in Metropolitan before for drinks before, nice little place. To bad no one has a nice 3-4 star restaurant on one of those towers, bet you it would make a killing, have views over looking the city and the lake. Anyone want to go into business? I have been to Pier W, mostly seafood and nothing else on the menu, which was to be expected. Wasn't too impressed with the place or the service. Granted I was stuck in the corner, but I did like you could make reservations for there online. I like that feature.

Cleveland Eateries: A Where To Guide for Visitors and Residents
This "might” sound like a dumb question (remember I am a new Clevelander). Are there any restaurants open in any of the larger towers downtown? It would be neat to dine on the 30th floor of Key or something like that... Hey, If you can not trust complete strangers on the internet, who can you trust?

Cleveland Eateries: A Where To Guide for Visitors and Residents
Yeah, she is a lazy vegetarian. She sometimes eats chicken, but only if it doesn’t look like one. Give you an idea of her tastes, she likes the vegan burger at GLB, Egg plant at Trattoria in Little Italy and the Gauc at momocho mex too. I would like to do something downtown, just don't know what... Hope that helps you in giving me a good idea… EDIT: I know poor planning on my part...

Cleveland Eateries: A Where To Guide for Visitors and Residents
The lady’s birthday is Friday, and I am trying to find a good place to go. Where are the good date restaurants in downtown/around Cleveland? I have done little Italy and GLB, which is a GREAT place for a date. I am looking for somewhere(s) new. What do you guys think some other good "date" restaurants are? Let's here what you people got...

Cleveland: Mayor Frank Jackson
What are you guy’s views on him? Do you think a lot of his current success was in part by Campbell? Is Cleveland currently in good hands?

Cleveland: Innerbelt News
Those drawings look as if someone did it in paint. Geeeez, what laziness and poor (geez so many words I could insert here). This looks like a high school project, not a multi-million dollar hello from Cleveland. How do you make a decision based on those pictures? Eh……
