  1. So I don’t have the solution but I think there is another way to look at this problem. Given the vast increase in productivity, we actually need way fewer people to produce the same standard of living. The problem is one of distribution rather than a lack of people to do the work, especially if AI ends up as disruptive as feared. Technology could be the solution if the benefits of productivity growth are more equitably shared. Focusing on that problem instead might be better for us and the planet.
  2. Cleveland would be better off financially supporting an effort to turn Cleveland State into a football school. They would increase the desirability of the school and avoid the constant threat of hostage taking by self interested billionaires. OSU benefits Columbus more than the Browns do Cleveland.

    Former Sister’s Chicken and Biscuits?
  4. Interesting thought KJP. Maybe employers should think about developing workforce housing again. Given that housing costs are a big burden on young people and a huge factor in disillusionment with our system. There are precedents; look at Birdtown or Pullman Village.
  5. If Trump makes good on his promise to deport millions, the chaos that ensues may give Latinos a reason to return to the Democratic Party. Surely family members, friends and even some legal residents will be rounded up too. I doubt Stephen Miller really cares about the harm this will do. I also have to wonder how this new power will be used once the immigrants are gone. Do you really think it will be dissolved or might it then be turned towards domestic opponents? History has thoughts.

Could it be the location of the Cuyahoga early vote center? The Franklin county one is ideal, located in a former Kohls on a bus line with good parking. It is super easy to get in and vote. Even when busy the line usually takes less than 15 minutes.

    A Brit reacts to Cleveland.

Apologies if this has already been posted. I am surprised to see that both Cincinnati and Cleveland made the list.
  9. We might need another amendment to take the power to create the ballot language away from the Secretary of State and place it in the hands of the Legislative Service Commission or some other non-partisan entity. LaRose's language is beyond the pale and should be reason enough for him to lose the ability to ever hold statewide office in Ohio.
  10. If you love music, stadium concerts kinda suck. They can be a spectacle but the sound quality is usually awful
  11. This whole mess is another argument for the merger of the various municipalities into one larger county-wide city. Then, communities wouldn’t have to be pitted against each other. Brook Park may be biting off more than they can chew. They may find themselves owned by the Haslans.
  12. Cruise reviewer gives Cleveland some "unexpected" love.
  13. I'm really worried that Cedar Point will never get the resources to remain competitive when they are just one of 42 parks, especially when other parks can remain open all year round.
  14. I’m not sure why Columbus’ numbers seem so out of whack. They must use a really unique method. I also find it hard to swallow the numbers put out by Experience Columbus generally. They claim over 51 million visitors to Columbus in 2022 putting Columbus well ahead of Paris. https://www.wosu.org/2024-05-24/columbus-saw-a-record-51-2-million-visitors-last-year# https://www.brusselstimes.com/417329/paris-remains-most-visited-city-in-the-world-with-44-million-tourists-in-2022
  15. The Ohio legislature is gerrymandered to give rural Ohioans more political clout. As a result, anything that is perceived to benefit urban centers has a very high bar to clear. High speed rail is definitely something that would benefit Ohio’s cities.
  16. Though I’d love to see subsides cut when profit margins reach certain thresholds. Why should taxpayers fund our own gouging.
  17. If public funds will make up half, we should get an ownership share in the team and profits from the facility
  18. Parking.
  19. If the Browns do move to Brook Park, would there be room downtown near the other sports venues for a soccer stadium? Would a soccer stadium activate the city more than an NFL stadium?
  20. Just asking because I really don’t know: Are private schools allowed to have entry requirements that public schools don’t? Can they require test scores for entry? Are they allowed to discriminate against children with behavior or cognitive issues? Can they require you to be of a specific faith to attend?
  21. The expectation of parking just outside the door is ingrained unfortunately. I actually drove from one business to another in the same shopping center, Graceland, until a non-American pointed out how crazy that is. In fairness, shopping center parking lots are hostile to pedestrians though.

Curious if any UO folks are going?
  23. Since the lake is an international border, how much control would Cleveland or even Ohio have? Is this more of a federal issue?
