Miscellaneous Ohio Political News
I too could support 55% and 60 counties but not the current proposal. Under the current proposal, the state legislature reserves a much lower standard for themselves meaning only the heavily gerrymandered legislature with a history of ignoring the will of the electorate and state courts would be empowered to change the constitution.

Electric Cars
NYTimes has a podcast about one of my favorite places as an example of sustainability. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/20/podcasts/the-daily/uruguay-sustainable-living.html?smid=url-share. I fell in love with Uruguay when I visited last year. Part of their sustainability is their use of renewables and more natural agriculture, but another part of that sustainability is their less materialistic culture. I felt that culture when I was there. There was definitely as sense that people valued human interaction more than flash and status (the foreigners of Punta aside). The parks were always busy with people drinking maté and enjoying each others company. My feeling is that even if we do all the right things regarding our energy production, we won't really be able to sustain our living standards unless we take a hard look at what we value. Buying a brand new car might improve your happiness for a week or maybe a month, but it soon becomes just a car after those first few weeks. A bigger house might be a dream, but lots of big houses are mostly empty with seldom used spaces. Two people living in a 4500 sq' house might actually occupy only 1500 sq' on a regular basis. Is having more than we use a real benefit or does having more than we need just make us all poorer. I'm always amused when I hear about the number of people with six figure incomes who live paycheck to paycheck (outside CA/NY). How much stuff does it take to be happy? Is there a better way?

Glass Block is Terrible
So this just came up in my Facebook thread. Not the worst use of glass lock I’ve ever seen. https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/2023/06/this-tremont-condo-is-unlike-anything-youve-seen-before-house-of-the-week.html?fbclid=IwAR2ytH2u_jtU_VFk6q9adx_jVac4lzCRi5NHdJGGRBzXyNpXrjxuSS35V1k&mibextid=Zxz2cZ

Columbus: Clintonville Developments and News
OH_Really replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI live in the far northern section of Clintonville, the most car centric part. A group of us formed to try and encourage more density and walkability. We got tons of resistance from developers. They were accustomed to suburban style development and wanted everything car centric. Unfortunately, they already owned key plots that still sit vacant. Granted, this was a few years back and I do see successful walkable development in other areas. Perhaps there is an opportunity to revisit this. I do agree with the opinion that walking, especially in my part of Clintonville, is possible but far from pleasant. There is little shade and the narrow sidewalks are up against traffic zooming by at 45. It is so loud, you can’t really talk while walking unless you want to shout. That said, there are lots of shops and restaurants close by.

Unless Americans travel overseas, they cannot comprehend an alternative to a car dependent life. Sadly, they have no idea what they are missing.

Argentina and Uruguay Trip
We didn’t have time to do Tigre. We spent about seven days in BA, another seven days in Monte, and two days in colonia. We took a day trip up to Punta from Montevideo.

Argentina and Uruguay Trip
Here are some snaps I took on my recent trip to Argentina and Uruguay. The first 10 are Buenos Aires. The rest are from Uruguay, mostly Montevideo and Colonia Del Sacramento. Uruguay was a real surprise and highly underrated,

Cleveland: Housing Market
I was just talking to a friend from Miami yesterday. He has a good friend that is being priced out of Miami and he was suggesting that she look at moving to Ohio. She was open to the idea though admittedly didn't know much about Ohio.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
So the Youtube algorithm suggested some Cleveland videos from J Pilipino. After watching a couple, I have to say that she makes Cleveland look awesome. Without intending to, she shows off Cleveland's awesome architecture and food scene. It always seems like the non-natives understand what Cleveland really has even if some of the locals don't. Anyway, enjoy.

I don't think Republicans are truly interested in growing the college educated population within the state. Higher education is negatively corelated with voting Republican these days as shown here. I think the sales tax waiver allows them to pretend to do something without doing anything meaningful.- Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info

My two pennies. I can't speak to Geneva but Vienna does have a lot of stuff to do. The history and architecture there are amazing. After all, it was the seat of the Habsburg /Austro-Hungarian empire. You are also 30 minutes from Bratislava, Slovakia which was a nice surprise and Budapest a few hours beyond that. Because Vienna gets a huge number of tourists, I found the locals to be a bit unwelcoming.- The Future of America and Its Cities
Re: USA vs USSR, I remember reading a book about the early years of the Soviet union and being stunned by how much was actually accomplished during that time period. Setting aside the authoritarianism, Russia went from a largely agrarian society, almost feudal, to highly industrialized and urbanized in a span of 30 to 40 years. Until Stalin gave into his darker angels, the lives of ordinary Russians actually improved. Healthcare and literacy rates skyrocketed. The closest thing you could probably compare it to is the difference between China in the 1970s to China today. - Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
