Oh.My.God.
I had a similar "bizarre" bathroom encounter. I was in a train station in Munich late one night and was using a one of what must have been forty urinals along this one wall of this bathroom, which was entirely empty. As I am standing there, another guy comes in and chooses to use the urinal directly next to mine-not any of the other thirty seven urinals that would have provided at least one space in between. Odd, I thought. Then he broke guy bathroom rule #1 (at least in my book.) He turns to me and very clearly takes an extended stare exactly where you shouldn't be taking an extended stare. My one thought at that moment was how do I explain to the police why I decked this guy when I don't even speak German. Then, my better reasoning took over and I high tailed it out of there. Later, a German friend explained that it probably wasn't some random perv, but probably a prostitute looking for some work. Fun times in Deutschland.

Posting an Event in the Calendar
There was never a thread that was wholly dedicated to "Parade the Circle". I only mentioned it in http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=8816.0 Maybe that's the problem, since I didn't originate the thread. Anyhow, that thread probably should stay where its at, since it has to to with relocation and not exclusively something for the "social hub" but that's up to your better judgement.

Posting an Event in the Calendar
Well, kinda worked. It's on the calendar, but I had to start a new thread in "Social Hub" since I couldn't figure how to link the calendar to an existing post. Just another nonsensical post. Much like this one. It's a vicious circle.

Posting an Event in the Calendar
I've never tried posting an event-Parade The Circle in University Circle-in the calendar and it seems like there isn't a way to post one without simultaneously starting a new topic in one of the forums. I didn't want to clutter up the forums with topics that are already in discussion elsewhere. I just want to put it in the calendar and that's all. Is there a way to do it?

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
Although that sounds like an interesting idea and I'm all for marketing Cleveland to the gay demographic, I don't think he could do that legally since Issue One, the gay marriage amendment, passed in 2004. I know the San Fran mayor did it, but I don't believe there was any law on the books explicitly forbidding it in California at the time. Plus, I think we, as a city and region, have a lot to offer a gay audience regardless.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
Thanks for posting "Avenue District" Don. It's gratifying to get a direct response from such an important project. BTW feel free to leak any big announcements here first to your attentive audience. We can keep a secret. We promise. Seriously, best wishes as the project pushes forward. And please keep posting any news and updates on your website, newsletter and if you can, here as well. Cheers!

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
That's actually not the first time I've heard about building over those tracks to help connect the lakefront to downtown. I think one of the submissions the the "Lakefront Plan" design competition at Kent's CUDC had a pretty impressive illustration of an arching grassy field constructed over the railroad tracks. The only difference was I believe this was more by the Malls and not the warehouse district, but I remember being impressed with the scale and the imagination. A gigantic grassy expanse over the railroad trumps 50 pedestrian bridges in my book. I've looked around some and haven't been able to find where those images have gone off to. I'll look some more and post them if I come across them. Also, the more I read about Stark, the more I love his tenacity. He's taking his pitch to build downtown to people with the kind of outward energy you really need to rally all the troops you need to see this project through. Hopefully he can keep it up while finishing all three sections of the "Y".

Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail
I was down in the valley the other day a got a few photos of the new pedestrian bridges. Actually, they're all of the one over Granger Rd, but the one over Warner Rd is just about as far in construction. If you happen to be going westbound on 480 over the Valley View bridge and look down on the north side, you get a pretty good view of both. The bridge decks were half in place and I'm looking forward to seeing when the cables are in place. All in all, I think this will enhance the "coolness" of traveling on and hiking along the Towpath.

Gas Prices
I largely agree with you. The problem is in an interview meant to explain why prices are so high and why consumers are feeling the pinch, it seems disingenuous to infer transit as a cause (even though you could argue it legitimately is) when it can be a major part of the solution. It's a bit of public policy misdirection. And yes, we are at the mercy of our poorly conceived environment, but until we can make wholesale change in the scattered way in which we live, comprehensive transit will be part of the cure to oil dependency, not the cause.

Gas Prices
So I'm sitting on my couch a minute ago, eating breakfast before I go to work and watching the Today Show. Katie Couric is interviewing John Hofmeister, President of Shell Oil about rising fuel prices and oil company record profits. Katie asks about how much of the fuel shortage and resulting increase in prices is incumbent on the consumer's lifestyle (long commutes, using fuel inefficient vehicles etc.) to which Hofmeister responds (I'll quote to the best of my recollection) "People spend a lot of time sitting in traffic lines. That wastes a lot of fuel. Mass transit goes largely unused. That wastes a lot of fuel." Are you freakin' kidding me!?! He's implicating mass transit as the cause of wasting fuel! Granted, some systems go under utilized and need to be tweaked to better serve their customer base-that might increase ridership. But an oil exec to take a shot at mass transit as being the villain in rising fuel prices... :ass:

Show a pic of yourself!
I don't know if anyone has ever told you, but you appear to have a bird growing out of the top of your head. I believe we have the technology to have it surgically removed. Unless it's like your trademark "look", like Cindy Crawford's mole or Angelina Jolie's giant swollen lips, which is cool too! :-)

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
I just sent off an email. I'm actually not too worried about the area feeling like a tourist trap per se. The effects of this development will radiate outward into this larger area, which is the exciting side effect of any new, sizeable development in a dense urban environment, and I believe the edges of the development will taper into the existing neighborhood as opposed to coming to a hard stop at one street corner or another. By that, I mean I don't think there will be a pawn shop across from a Cartier store (which would be funny). I just want them to tout every asset the neighborhood already has, via this map and other means, to illustrate what is there to serve potential buyers.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
That walking map is pretty nice. I wish they'd add more of the not so high end amenities of the area. I believe there's a CVS on East 9th and how about some storefront sandwich or pizza places? I know these aren't "glamorous" places, but they are places that real people will visit when they aren't going to high end dining or need a prescription. Just an idea in case anyone at Zaremba happens to see this. :-D

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
Everyone here really, really, really wants to see it happen and flourish too! And I personally think that it will. "Pesht" and the East Bank development and the Avenue district, as the big three downtown housing projects on the drawing boards, will guarantee that scale and variety of retail will expand to service the growing resident base. Not to mention the expanded housing options will attract downtown office workers who may have been waiting for the right time or the right development to move from the suburbs downtown and eliminate their commute. In other words:People=Retail. Well, there's a program that started up this year, funded by a self imposed tax on downtown businesses, to do just that. It's a crew of people that go around downtown, cleaning up the area and helping visitors in need. More needs to be done, but its a great start and fantastic that the business owners are taking a chance to really invest in the city above and beyond what they have to. You can read more about it in this thread and scroll to the bottom, where there's a link to a clip they had about it on WKYC: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=7355.0 And welcome to the forum!
