Cleveland: Cleveland Museum of Art Expansion / Renovation
It's pretty impressive article/multimedia presentation which clearly had a lot of work put in. There's a whole Flash presentation with panoramic images, along with several adjoining articles, which is probably better linked to than posted here, but here's the intro... http://www.cleveland.com/cma/reopen/ A city's centerpiece transformed Posted by Steven Litt June 22, 2008 06:22AM Art lovers in Northeast Ohio went into mourning three years ago when the Cleveland Museum of Art closed its permanent-collection galleries to start a massive expansion and renovation. On Sunday, June 29, the museum will open the doors to newly renovated galleries on the main level of its original neoclassical white marble home, known as the 1916 building...

Moving to Cleveland in mid 2009!
Well, it seems that you are in a bit of a unique position with all of this time before your move. Since you've been "lurking", I'm sure you've already read many of the arguments for and against various neighborhoods. My advice to you is take advantage of the time. If you live in Stow (where I'm presuming your family is - correct me if I'm wrong) and you are going to spend any time at home this summer, explore for yourself! Use Stow as a home base to go and check out Tremont, OC, WHD, E4th, Detroit Shoreway, Asian Village, Shaker Square, Cleveland Heights et al for yourself. Go at different times during the week and weekends to see how the atmosphere changes in each 'hood. So many people seem to write with a very contracted time frame, so they really need to rely on the guidance of this forum, which I agree, does a fine job fitting people to neighborhoods. But with a full year of advanced notice, you're in a great position. I moved from Fairlawn to Cedar-Lee a little over a year ago and was guided by two things in deciding where to live: this forum and my own exploration. And it's worked out very well! So when you come up with specific questions or more specific criteria of what you want, post away! Until then, time is your friend, so explore the city and you may very well answer some of your own questions.

Deco, dignity and decay in Decatur, Indiana - Part 1 of 3
Wow! I never saw this thread until now and you're kinda blowin' my mind, Rob! My great aunt was a Sister at St. Mary of the Assumption. I remember driving to go pick her up on her vacation when she'd come and stay with us and poking my head around. Thanks! I'll be showing this to my mom soon!

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Pardon the nit-pick, but couldn't they have centered it in the lighter brick? Or if the logo is in fact centered in front of the door, couldn't they have filled the brick in evenly around it? That said, it's a really nice touch!

Cleveland: Great Lakes Brewing Co. News & Info
For some, it means award winning beer. For others, a great dining and drinking experience in OC. For others still, it represents a singular devotion comparable to little kids staring at the seizure-enducing insanity of Japanese children's cartoons... :-D But GLBC is turning 20! Almost old enough to get a drink. Raise your glass to 20 years for Great Lakes Brewing Co. Thursday, June 19, 2008 Great Lakes Brewing Co. in Ohio City is celebrating its 20th anniversary of brewing beer and serving great food. Unlike so many restaurants that go belly up, GLBC remains one of Cleveland’s greatest success stories. http://www.cleveland.com/suncourier/scoopdujour/index.ssf?/base/columnist-0/1213893443285880.xml&coll=4

Dammit! I missed my 10,000th post!
The same thing happened watching the odometer in my old car. I was waiting patiently for a month to finally hit 100,000 miles and let a friend borrow it who brought it back with something like 100,014. Oh well...

Don't let that stop you. I've gone over 400 posts and still don't think I've really "contributed" anything :-D

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
^I don't know what the average occupancy is for downtown housing, but since many of these units will be condos or town homes (avenue district), would it be fair to say, on average each "unit" or "dwelling" might net 2 occupants? If so, that's 4500 new residents. I think the numbers get confused when comparing number of new units to the 20,000 population critical mass that is so talked about.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Since it is such a blank canvas, how about installing a permanent Luminocity-like display Or something more interactive, like Chicago's Crown Fountain (with or without spitting water) Or how about a massive LED video monitor, which could rotate art and images... A bit like Tokyo, but with an artistic bent, as opposed to a commercial one. I suppose getting the building's owner to consent and mustering what could be a massive amount of funding might be tricky, but hey, just a thought
