  1. Put the url in archive.ph and you should be able to read it.
  2. Right, that whole article read like an ad for the hospital. Every challenge they’re facing is faced by anyone building in any downtown anywhere (except maybe the helicopters).
  3. I’ve noticed this too. I’m convinced it’s either because people think curvier roads look prettier (especially in a rendering) or it’s some really terrible attempt at getting people to drive the speed limit. Either way it drives me nuts because IMO it looks worse, I’m guessing it’s more expensive, and if you want people to drive slower there’s so many better ways to achieve that (like for starters don’t make the road so damn big!). Sawmill north of 270 is an egregious example.
  4. Here’s a few photos from around 12:30p today, taken from the top of the Starling garage -
  5. I wonder if the Bronzeville sign also got axed. I hope not.
  6. Small crane falls on vehicle in Upper Arlington; operator injured “UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio — Authorities are investigating after a small crane brought into an Upper Arlington construction site fell Monday afternoon, crushing a vehicle and sending the machine's operator to the hospital. A spokesperson for the city of Upper Arlington said the crane was brought to the site of the Bob Crane Community Center, located near the Kingsdale Shopping Center, to assist with dismantling the main construction crane.” Yikes, fortunately no serious injuries.
  7. That’s my biggest reservation to this. I’d really miss the more human scale of those smaller buildings, regardless of their architectural significance.
  8. A little disappointing that they’re only putting 30 units on 9 acres.
  9. I really hope we see a more concrete timeline for the Cleveland BRT line soon. A road diet on Cleveland is so badly needed (as well as better transit).
  10. They’re putting up a few overhead light-up pedestrian signs along Cleveland (at Kenmore, 19th, and Camden/Leona). Nice to see, although I’m a little skeptical that drivers will obey the signs…. Here’s a blurry pic of the one at Kenmore:
  11. Work has started on this Autozone (along with a big sign advertising the Autozone).
  12. I think this may be happening in a few weeks, at least to some degree. Sounds like vehicle traffic will be restricted to daytime hours (and within that possibly just to buses visiting COSI), so the public street parking may be eliminated. Great news!
  13. Agreed completely, it’s really not that bad. I found it pretty amusing that Columbus made that video.
  14. 670/71 was highlighted on a cities skyline/brain rot content creator recently - https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPR3okB3L/
  15. another ramp up photo, from 2/21
  16. I heard from a friend of a friend (who is involved with Walmart) that the store closed because the city wanted it closed. I didn’t get any more details, but it sounded like the city wants to build on the land.
  17. That would be great. It’s pretty ridiculous that we have those nice fountains facing the skyline next to COSI and one whole side of them is basically road.
  18. I’m not sure they’ll ever do that, school groups use that entrance to COSI usually. They could just close it to bus traffic I suppose.
  19. Ohio builders pitch ending referendums, local zoning to spur housing (dispatch.com) Interesting article on some policy efforts by the Building Industry Association of Central Ohio. Their report "Ohio Housing Policy White Paper: Strategies to Address Ohio's Housing and Economic Challenges" recommends the following policy changes: Create a Governor's Housing Council that would include developers, local government, business and community leaders who would advise the governor on how Ohio can address the housing crisis, establish housing as a statewide concern, and adopt a comprehensive strategy for housing development. Regulate small, non-limited home rule township zoning at the state level that would put zoning in the hands of county government. Enact state legislation that permits residential development where retail zoning now exists. Create a new Ohio Housing Infrastructure Fund of $250 million to offer competitive grants for large and small cities to build dense residential projects. Increase the amount of funding from $100 million a year to $400 million for the state's Transformational Mixed Use District Program. Eliminate referendums for zoning decisions.
  20. Update on that - buildings were coming down this morning (12/18). I’m pretty sure that cell phone store in the corner was open right up until they fenced the area off last week, which makes it seem like an unplanned demo. Anyone who’s good at sleuthing permits want to do some investigation?
  21. There's several buildings and lots fenced off around Cleveland and Aberdeen/Linden Pl (immediately south of the Cleveland/Westerville Rd split). Anyone know why? This morning there was a decent sized CFD response and some of the buildings had large holes in them (like big enough to drive a fire truck through), then this evening there was fencing up. There's some heavy machinery on site too (likely for demo).
  22. Now that the crane is up, you can get a great sense of the space Merchant will fill in the skyline. This is the view from the west side of the Scioto, near Vets.
  23. The elevator core is barely visible from the west side of the Scioto Mile.
  24. Looks like the elevator core is roughly halfway to its final height? Excited to see the rest of the building catch up.
