How Do You Explain Ohio To People?
Usually the response I get when I tell people I'm from Ohio is "Oh yeah...Cleveland rocks!" Of course, the typical person to give that kind of response is the same type of person who balks when they have to leave Orange County for anything except vacation time in San Diego...

Article on the Greater Cincinnati dialect
Heh, scary how I still use a lot of these local oddities despite living in Arizona and California for such a long time. I was pretty heavily exposed to "Please?" if only because I'm third generation American, and spent a lot of time around my German-descendant relatives who lived all over metro Cincinnati, and almost all of them spoke with heavy german accents and used "Please?" a lot. You do hear "warsh" quite frequently in Cincinnati, but that's all over the place (and is especially popular amongst rural folks).

Random Ohio Sports Talk
From my optimistic standpoint: Bengals will go 9-7, landing them in either second or third place in the AFC North depending on the (fucking) Raven's success. Pessimistic (Realistic) standpoint: 7-9 depending on how well they can run and pass the ball. Offense has always been a little iffy for them, but we'll see how the season goes come September.

Cincinnati: Housing Market / Affordable Housing
There were some issues with Section 8 where I used to live in Cincinnati (Newtown -- River Hills Subdivision). A lot of the long-time residents hated the thought of people under the Section 8 program moving into the neighborhood because of the fear of lowered property values for not only those living in a government-bought house, but also their own house. When we were planning to move, our neighbors begged us not to sell out to Section 8. We didn't, and actually got a pretty decent price for the house ($88,000 but it had a furnished basement and two bathrooms, one of which was added a year before we moved). Never had any problems with any of the neighbors who were living under Section 8 though, most that were in our neighborhood (approx. 4 houses) were just trying to make a decent living and were very friendly, at least from my perspective.

Origin of your Screen Name?
I had the highest security settings on my hotmail account when I signed up as "Buckeye Native" for SSP. The security feature blocked the confirmation email because it was from an unknown email address. Not knowing why I never got the confirmation email, I tried a new name..."Buckeye Native 01". That didn't work either, so I created a new hotmail email address with low security settings and since "Buckeye Native" and "B.N. 01" were already taken, the next logical thing to do was to add another zero to the digits in my screen name... :drunk:

Cleveland: National City Bank News & Info
Sorry, Monte. I was being too pessimistic, and I don't want to see that happen (if anything, because I don't want to see Bank of America's logo on top of the 5/3 Building). :D

Cleveland: National City Bank News & Info
I'm surprised Bank of America hasn't made it into Ohio, or any other nearby states as of yet. It's probably only a matter of time before they make their presence known. Watch them buy out 5/3 or something like that.

Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Projects & News
Kudos to Cincinnati if those things work. God knows they don't do a damn thing out here in CA to alleviate our traffic problems.

Strike first! Don't give the Godless Michiganders any time to retaliate! Take no prisoners: all of Michigan will be Ohio's...which we will then auction off at top dollar to Indiana, Wisconsin, and Canada! :)

An introductions thread...
My name's Ryan, I'm 20 years old and attending college in California. Lived in Cincinnati for 13 years (easter fringe of Hamilton County), lived in Newtown for most of that time. Moved to Phoenix because the weather in Cincinnati sucks, but I'm an author/journalist working on a crime series set in Cincinnati.

I've heard Censor-nazi (especially after the Mapplethorpe fiasco) which is pretty damn similar to Censornatti.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
As much as I like the renderings for the skyscraper, does it bother anyone else that the large crown is what's going to make it the tallest in Cincinnati? Call it personal bias, but if Cincy's going to have a new tallest, it would be nice for the high-rise to actually have more than 50 floors.

Cincinnati Lunken Airport
Funny, there was a study done in the Enquirer a few years back that talked about the possibility of having Boeing 737's fly in and out of Lunken, and I was immediately interested, because Southwest Airlines doesn't use anything but 737's and was hoping that maybe they would offer service to a Cincinnati-area airport for much cheaper than what it costs to fly to CVG. Of course, the residents in the surrounding area would have a cow if big ass airplanes began landing and taking off out of Lunken, but sometimes I get tired of having to fly to Columbus then driving down to Cincinnati
