  1. Honestly, I only care about tourists to the extent that they bring our city/county money, and I don't think that gas station will stop tourists from coming. Fixing crime is much more important than catering to the few hundred FCC tourists that stay in OTR rather than decide to just push them into a different resident's block.
  2. I don't know if we need another "bar" entertainment district. Court Street is perfectly positioned to be a work-time lunch, grocery chores, and date-night dinner street. Now, it's fine if one bar is there, but Avril's, Kroger, and a bakery + great lunch and dinner options is the perfect set up here. Something more akin to Glendale or Wyoming's business district in terms of options.
  3. Since there was barely any driving, companies that are heavier in automobile insurance had a great year (Progressive is >75% Auto vs Home). Since Nationwide is heavier in Homeowners insurance, they likely got hit with another bad wildfire season. Also, insurance companies in general are going to fluctuate with bond prices, since that's what most of them invest their insurance premiums into, and rates went back down with COVID and the attempt to slow the adverse economic impact.
  4. Yeah that's true, and having the feds chip in on moving Duke utilities does remove a hurdle to getting the streetcar up the hill. but if they aren't done in conjunction, the streetcar extension could shut down that transit-only lane for a year.
  5. The picture below is from today's feature story in the CBC. If the Hamilton or Reading BRT corridors use MLK, then Vine to get downtown, does that leave any room for the streetcar on an already narrow street? Would a BRT route essentially kill any notion that we need to extend the streetcar to uptown? I like that the route cuts through campus more than it just making a pit stop at the Uptown Gateway (or not at all along a Hamilton Ave corridor). Library Link Regular Link
  6. The Biz Courier's article this morning mentions that the Reinventing Metro Year 1 plans were expanded 20% from what was promised and they recommitted to two BRT corridors, which I know most of us were skeptical they would provide. Regular Link Library Link
  7. Sounds like we need more bars to accommodate increased traffic. Hopefully this spurs progress on a mixed use building/micro-apartments that were proposed, but got Crancelled.
  8. I'm loving that this is fare free, but there are still major issues (as we've discussed) holding this thing back. So far in 2021, my wife and I are batting .500 in catching the streetcar without a 15 minute wait this year. The two times we had to wait 15+ minutes, the ETA clock wasn't updating (or the streetcar was stuck in bad traffic). There's loads of frustration from the regular people just trying to use this thing, and for out-of-towners it is embarrassing. We left the Reds game yesterday a bit early, and when we got to the Banks station there were a few Giants fans waiting there. The ETA was 12 minutes, which is fine, I guess. But after 10 minutes, it hadn't budged. And finally the clock started moving as normal. Most of these fans waited 20+ minutes to catch a streetcar 3 or 4 stops to their hotels... In a city that cares, this would be unacceptable. The proposed changes that were studied for 4 years need to be implemented ASAP.
  9. Can't speak for the residents, but my wife and I hung out during the day a couple of weekends ago before a 4pm Saturday Reds game. The usual hot spots in OTR were packed to the brim, wait times were long at restaurants, but they also had capacity restrictions. Fountain Square seemed like it was hopping, OTR was maybe 50% as busy as a usual Saturday afternoon (before 3pm). I left downtown hopeful about the vibrancy coming back quickly, it definitely was not a ghost town. I'm definitely curious how things were this past weekend as it was beautiful.
  10. This picture emphasizes the importance of the road diet... what is the point of a grand staircase if people have to cross this monstrosity to get there?
  11. As one of those haters... I'll believe it when I see it. But this proposal is a promising start. Hopefully the Central Pkwy diet goes the way we want as well to help compliment the surge of people that will be walking from the east side of the Pkwy to this development.
  12. I'm loving that this is starting at 5-stories tall and it's getting built in a spot in PR that certainly could use it. I imagine that the NIMBYs will use the nearby school and traffic as their excuse for wanting this reduced.

Exactly, the GOP has become a threat to the status quo. You saw this under Trump as they had to have an ear on the news constantly as he was a threat to disrupt the entire market with a single tweet at any time. They just want the GOP to drop their obsession with nationalism/Trumpism and get back to the Bush years. It's simply a sound business decision, not "catering to the left"
  14. If this happens, we will get a fancy hotel or two to make sure we can accomodate the influx. Indy got their fancy Marriott once it was announced they were hosting the Super Bowl.
  15. The portion that goes from Clifton to Reading is mixed-use (and some is just normal sidewalk too, I think). The asphalt portion has got to be a beast to run on, that's a healthy incline over a long distance.
  16. The MLK mixed-use path sucks, but it does create a connection (for the more casual bikers) to the Central Pkwy bike trail, and close to the Mill Creek Greenway. Southward though is going to have to be a bike lane (which wouldn't likely happen if BRT along Reading happens) or mixed-use path along Reading, there's no room anywhere else.
  17. I know 16-bit catered more to the "bro" crowd, but that and The Rook were my two go-to bars for a night out with friends. There's plenty of date-night type of bars and resturants in OTR, but far too few that cater to just a fun social outing with a group of friends. I'm sure at some point, someone will open a board game and/or arcade bar down there again, but this hurts for the time being.

And throw in a "failing New York Times" insult about the ASG not bringing in any money just for good measure. Not sure if the posters here remember the 2015 All Star game, but I'm sure Cincinnati's local businesses would agree it was a more profitable weekend than the playoff series in 2012.

There were 24 suspicious votes in the runoff election. The integrity was fine before this was passed, so that's certainly not what the MLB is opposed to.
  20. Thanks to Chris Wetterich for the friendly reminder to the Mayor, Council, anybody who will listen, that this trail exists and needs love. At this point all of the other portions of the CROWN are planned and being funded. While the Mill Creek Greenway was put at the back of the priority list, the rest of the CROWN got funded much faster than I ever anticipated, so hopefully that is good news for the Mill Creek Greenway in the near future.
  21. I doubt it takes the restaurant space, and a park with statues is a great idea. It acts as an outdoor extension of the museum and enhances the public space. Also, they're closing Freedom way in front of the museum, meaning that's 2 blocks of Freedom way returned to the public. I'm a fan.
  22. The fact that we are running up the score on weekdays since it has gone fare-free makes me think that there's a ridership boom waiting to happen when we actually have an office worker population downtown again. It must be a popular option among those that are working downtown now.
  23. I really hope they get to building something on the left and right sides of the massive staircase. This stadium is an eyesore during the daytime as it stands now. Obviously, the led fins are an incredible feature, but i wish they would have done some type of covering instead of the spaced out fins on the North, West, and South sides of the building, you're basically just looking at the underside of the bleachers/seating when approaching from those directions.
  24. I'll be attending the meeting, a few notes on this: -2024 is the expected start for the new entrance and pedestrian improvements at Glendale-Milford Rd. The trail is still TBD pending federal, state, and local grants. Given the federal, and even state interest in giving trail funding, I do imagine it will win something in that time frame though. -Since Cincinnati and even TriState Trails seem to have no interest in the Mill Creek Greenway, it's good to see Great Parks spearheading some activity up north. I know OKI has the connector from the terminus of this trail to Fairfield's terminus of the Great Miami Trail on its radar for funding. -I know Wyoming has applied to extend their portion of the West Fork trail south into their business district, it's only a mile or so, but adds a nice destination on the trail itself.
  25. As someone who doesn't live downtown, I absolutely loved Piatt Park the first time I stumbled across it. Yes there's homeless, but it's a nice shady/green oasis in the concrete jungle, there's a reason they want to be there. There's plenty of main drags with higher speed limits that have large medians in the middle in European cities, it completely beautifies the street. I don't see why we couldn't replicate that here. It makes what would be an ugly car sewer look nice.
