What a beautiful sob story. Life truly is tough

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
Now if only we could get a non 1am or 3am departure/arrival time. I may finally be able to convince my wife we should do some vacation travel via Amtrak.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Good point, but there's no way FY2021 will budget for "nice-to-have's" like a free streetcar. I guess I'd target July/August 2021 then as a likely date (if the economy recovers at a normal pace) They'll get eviscerated by the public for it, whether it is good for the budget or not.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
This is all good news. I'd expect fare free to be pushed to March/April 2021. It's just refreshing to hear that signal priority isn't forgotten either, but that may be on hold until a new mayor is elected.

Ohio: Fortune 500 Companies Updates & Discussion
Make that 3, Cincinnati Financial will likely be outside the 500 after this year as well. They rise and fall with the stock market (faster than other insurance companies).

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
As everyone suspected as Reinventing Metro was evolving, they aren't mentioning BRT anymore, but are acting like they will be doing the other improvements even given the economy right now.

Cincinnati: Demolition Watch
10albersa replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Architecture, Environmental, and PreservationIt is absolutely unbelievable that something like this would be accepted for demolition.

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
I won't go too off topic, but if Biden does win in 2020, he's the most visible active proponent of Amtrak, and I'd imagine in pursuit of buffing up that network as well as other state corridors, there will be an expansion of the TIGER grant program to go with it. Same with CMAQ funding.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Blonde (Eighth & Main)
I imagine this will do well as long as recovery is on par with the pace of the Great Recession. It's targeted at young people working downtown, and I wouldn't expect them to flee the basin like the empty-nester demographic that the rest of the new apartment builds go after. It's certainly an apartment I would put at the top of my list if I was single and working downtown.

Hamilton County Politics
Yeah I'm curious too, I voted in this race completely on who I thought had the best chance in the general, which was Reece.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Convention Center / Hotel
Hopefully, by some miracle, this project gets cancelled and we can get back to a mixed use infill proposal. My worry was that the Corryville Tru hotel would be paused. Glad that is still happening to hide the Kroger crater there.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I actually like the Cincinnati Bell wrapping and color scheme, but I do find it ironic that KC is able to brand these with their sports teams and their streetcar doesn't take them to those stadiums, whereas our streetcar can take fans to all 3 of our stadiums, but we don't work with them on sponsorships.

Personal Finance / Investing Thread
I agree that a lot of the economy is still running as close to as normal as possible, but what you're missing are the gig, retail and service workers of the world. This is a significant portion of the US workforce, and they are going to need to get by on unemployment pay and a $1,200 check? This isn't going to magically all get better once social distancing is lifted. Those people are going to push/default on loans, not be able to pay electric/water/insurance/etc, only buying essentials. There will be ripples felt for years simply on those lines of work. Macy's and Mercy Health furloughing corporate workers may be the canary in the coal mine for these ripples and the effect they may have on the office jobs of the world. And if construction stops (it hasn't yet here in Ohio), then we are talking major supply chains being busted and going under. On top of those workers being out of jobs.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
I filled mine out online the same day I received the letter. Took 5 minutes. Hopefully everyone being at home makes this go smoother.

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
If this fails, our only hope is ODOT taking the advice of its constituents and actually bumping up transit funding (per the results of their survey).

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
The other side of the equation is that the R team doesn't have the presidential primary to vote in March 17th, I think SORTA was probably banking on that when they chose this as the date to put it on the ballot. But now, Biden has fully run away with the nomination and D turnout may be lower than initially anticipated.

Ideally, they would have bumped up the earnings tax or left it alone and asked for .25 sales tax increase, but the business community gets what they want. I want more frequent service along route 78, so I'm voting yes, no matter the cost. The one silver lining from the sales tax funding mechanism is at least some portion of it is funded via people who don't live and work here, but visit and spend money.

Not sure if this photo was always up on the Reinventing Metro site, but it appears that the 2 BRT routes are Reading and Glenway. These are the 1st and 3rd busiest routes in the system (Hamilton Ave being #2). And those are probably the 2 cheapest routes to build out if I had to guess. http://reinventingmetro.com/index.php?page=improvements

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
I went to Tuckers (on Vine by Findlay Market) today. Based on the conversations I overheard, it sounded like they aren't doing well. It would be an incredible shame if they closed. Don't get me wrong, OTR is great, but if they are truly on the ropes, it is still one less 'authentic' place in an increasingly curated neighborhood.

Over-the-Rhine Special Improvement District (SID)
Bikeways? That's interesting, but not sure where or how they plan on cutting street parking for bike lanes though

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
I only saw the 2023 frequency boost. I wonder if they will go down to 45 min headways in 2020 and 30 in 2023... Or are they improving only one of the segments to 30 mins (Lockland vs Springfield Pike) in 2020 and then the other in 2023.

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
In terms of ease of "BRT" implementation, I'd rank: 1. Reading 2. Glenway 3. Montgomery 4. Hamilton I'd put money on Reading getting the first one. I'd say its a toss-up between Glenway and Montgomery for the second line.

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
My route (78) isn't getting reduced headways until 5 years down the road, according to the neighborhood improvements page, which means never. I would kill for Metro+ (since we aren't under consideration for BRT) on Vine/Springfield Pike, our ridership numbers warrant it.

I know the Indygo Red Line was built on mostly wider roads, but did the same parking removal problem come up when they were building it out? Or were they able to keep parking and remove 1 traffic lane? I know our arterials are thankfully mostly narrow, but there's gotta be a playbook we can go off of here. We are a decade + behind on implementing "BRT."
