Also, I'll admit, I'm glad Cordray lost. Democrats state-wide would be lambasted for the unavoidable gas-tax increase, and then subsequently vetoing "jobs" and "low-energy bills" legislation. I've seen Republicans mad at 'tax-crazy' DeWine for what happened at the beginning of the year. Then on top of that Cordray wouldn't be able to get anything done given the state reps anyway. So he'd only be known for the gas tax bill and costing us jobs... It is much more important that Democrats are in better standing for the 2020 elections where they will have a say in the state rep maps in that cycle.

I'm a fan of nuclear for now as it is the best way to reach 100% clean energy in the near term. Large-scale battery deployment is a decade or more away, and until then solar and wind are not viable as full-scale energy sources. On the surface, I'm fine with the idea of making sure our nuclear stays running, but I wish they would have taken some control if we are bailing our corporations. Bailing out coal and cutting renewable standards are unacceptable though. Although I don't think renewable growth will suffer as a result, you can't stop the train at this point.
  3. It seems the best implementation for bike/bus combo lanes would be on arterial roads outside of downtown in neighborhoods so that buses aren't stacking and there aren't frequent stops due to the many things downtown offers in a dense area. Downtown, it likely needs to be separated into 2 lanes.

Yep, it's not like this is a pleasant location. Busy traffic, gas station views... might as well put in multi-family here, but it's Hyde Park, so of course they won't build multi-family.
  5. Given the odd size of the lots, what do we think could go here if the concert venue doesn't get built?
  6. When does SORTA need to decide the % they are putting on the ballot? And is it on the St Patricks Day primary date or Nov 2020?
  7. That's what I was thinking. I appreciate the amount of green space and the designs, but why do these look they they are only 2-4 stories tall? At least go up to 6-8 on most of these buildings, it's riverfront property... I'm rooting for Green on the Levee, a little more compact allowing for tons of park space.
  8. I think the young-hip families have College Hill on lock, I doubt that would be the place, I see the same happening to Westwood over the next 5. All 3 of the Price Hills seem like a top candidate though, if we are ruling out Camp Washington (which shouldn't be ruled out if they can get a large "artist flats" apartment building built/rehabbed that can house many of these people). In reality, I bet it just spreads out from Northside. South Cumminsville, Mt Airy, Camp W, Spring Grove Village, maybe even Brighton. Hopefully we get another neighborhood where those types of people are concentrated though, having them all living in Northside made that neighborhood fun in the first place and put it on the map.
  9. It better be .07+. It will be voted down if all they are selling is "we need to balance our budget." Hide that behind some service improvements and a fancy BRT sales pitch, and you'll get it passed.
  10. https://www.wvxu.org/post/cincinnati-streetcar-get-priority-some-intersections I have no clue why we hired some random lawyer to run the streetcar, but between the free days (and free rides with Reds tickets) and now getting signal priority implemented, he's doing as good a job as one can do given city hall. At least we are moving in the right direction. On top of that, June only had 3 days under 1,000 riders. Things certainly are going the right direction for it. EDIT: Upon further reading, it is only longer green lights, and not signal changes for approaching streetcars. Still an improvement!
  11. I think she actually stands a better chance than Aftab Pureval given the massive Warren Co suburban population and her military background, Aftab was never going to do well enough in Warren Co to win in '18.
  12. I've ridden the streetcar countless times, but finally got caught in a blockage this past weekend. A megabus was parked outside a hotel and slightly in the streetcar lane. Took them 10 minutes to move. It would be nice if they actually did a towing sweep for a couple weeks to send out the message that they are serious, then they can back it off a little bit and have the teal signage help notify people. I think that teal looks pretty darn good. It seems we are getting some small things done finally (bus lanes, bus lane paint, streetcar blockage signage). The pessimist in me always figured they administration would purposely not do the small/easy things to make improvements to public transit.
  13. I read yesterday that City Council approved an expansion of Smale Park. Are they adding more space at the Bengals lot on the river, adding in docks/piers? The Smale master plan has both of those things, but the Council minutes didn't mention what they planned on doing.

For those of us particularly angered by ODOT's unwillingness to make streets less hostile, please answer their survey and give thoughts on their plan to actually incorporate bike/ped improvements in future projects. I don't trust that this will amount to much, but at least they are aware that people want more options. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WalkBikeOhio
  15. 2,000 would be huge (assuming everything new coming online gets filled). That would put us at 12,000 downtown/OTR. 8,000 more and I think the whole perspective changes for downtown. Right now the ratio of workers - residents is way too high and can cause some major issues in regards to vibrancy and low traffic for businesses on weeknights. Right now, most people see downtown as dead on weeknights with the added bonus of crime, so why live there when you can drive there and enjoy it when it is vibrant on weekends or during events? The increased workers/residents is starting to show in the streetcar numbers. For the past month, we are seeing at least 1,000 daily Mon-Thurs riders for the first time since the sheen wore off. The more people living downtown, the more other people want to live downtown, this could pick up quickly... barring a major economic recession.
  16. I can hear it now, if WCPO does an investigation on it. Cranley's response: "It's in the name, it's voluntary!"
  17. Pleasant won't be turned into a ped plaza because of the sheer number of homes on that street and it intersecting with Liberty, but it certainly is a candidate for an East Coast or even European narrow shared road (only deliveries and resident parking/people have the right of way and cars have to work around them). It could provide a really cool green trail from Washington Park to Findlay Market if they lined trees all up and down the street and if the Liberty St road diet also provided a crosswalk there.
  18. It would be wonderful if someone with more time on their hand than me put these on a map. In the few years I've been paying attention, this seems like the most individual projects we've been awarded. Looks like development is creeping up and bridging the gap between 12th & Vine and Findlay market, finally.
  19. Yeah, I see cars parked in the bike lanes all the time, they aren't maintained, there are still some broken portions by Ravine, and the street transition is awkward as you approach from the north. It is interesting seeing all that grassy space between the Central Pkwy and I-75 and the worn down sidewalk there while the bike lane also falls apart, I always thought a bike path would be better suited there. I actually agree with DOTE for once, the only downside is the cost. The other thing is that now it is a weird combo of half path half bike lane to get downtown from Northside (for example). Now the portion from Marshall to the Brighton Approach should also be a shared use path, as there is a (overgrown) sidewalk and room for it.
  20. So between Central Trust, the Artistry, and the parking increases, the Streetcar operating budget should be in the positive now, right? Back of the napkin math is showing that (if these VTICA payments are spread over 15 years) it will be bringing in 425k more a year, on top of the parking violations allegedly covering the 1.15m deficit.
  21. Let's have us Cincy UO users pool our money and create the urban utopia we always dreamed of! In all seriousness, Sedamsville has this awesome beautiful Appalachian mountain town feel to it, and has good bones as well. With the Ohio River Trail West getting built this summer and next year, this could have a nice multi-modal connection to downtown too.
  22. Something better has got to go there besides the lawn and wheel. We will look so dumb having two ferris wheels on the river.
  23. Yeah in terms of raw numbers, I'm not too mad about this one. The amount of residential units barely decreased from Skyhouse, the parking spaces took a 150 space hit, which I'm more than happy with. Surprised they even paid into the streetcar fund.
  24. It's funny/sad to see all those trees in the development plan. Those would do wonders for making the place feel at least somewhat human. As it stands, there is so much asphalt and wasted space that, if you're going to walk between multiple stores, you'll look like a loser and feel like you're walking in a desert. At least they are looking at filling in some parking spots with out-lot strip malls. But it doesn't solve the problem that this is designed for you to drive to At-Home, then make a quick drive over to the Kroger, then drive-thru the Raising Cane's on your way out.

Good to see them exploring Mexico city and even talking about expansion. Mexico's market could really give the MLB the shot in the arm it has needed since.. well, players were regularly getting shots in the arm.
