  1. Looks like all of Mount Lookout decided to get fired up because there’s a slight risk they might have to mingle with renters like a decade from now. this is a good opportunity to make sure they aren’t the only ones providing feedback here

Following up on this, Tri-State Trails released their feasibility study on the "Triangle Trail" through north-central Hamilton County, including using I75NB as the route through Lockland and Reading as we discussed above. It would be at ground level. LINK Here's the specific section we we're talking about earlier. LINK On a different note, I don't know how you get a bike route through the Lockland business district. There's so many instances where cars just stop and park to talk to people in the middle of the street, and there's almost always something or someone blocking the road when I drive on it. I'd prefer the Wayne Ave route, I bike on it all the time. It's a wide open street that does not see many cars (at least when I bike).
  3. Agreed, it honestly just needs to be at the exact same spot as their old train station. If they want better connection to downtown, make MLK Jr a "complete street". It's a hostile and empty car sewer right now.
  4. Hamilton, OH has some plans in place for a stop on the Cardinal and (depending on the study) the 3C+D line. Article Orange is the Cardinal stop, Teal are the two options for 3C+D that the city is looking at.
  5. Imagine if the houses we built only lasted 25 "and a little bit longer" years... I really like the bones (and location) of the stadium, just renovate the hell out of it. Why we need to pay for "haciendas", night clubs and whatever else goes in new stadiums is beyond me. We're a market where we just want to see a good team, it's our identity more so than an LA or Las Vegas team, where it's an event, or vibe.

  7. I'm going to keep harping on this point. Grifters looking for public money are trying to sell convention space everywhere. I don't understand, there's also tons of small convention space in hotels all across the region. In progress/Complete: -Downtown Cincinnati -Sharonville Proposed: -Springdale -Colerain -NKY The next grift appears to be mega youth sports complexes. Concert venues seem to be shoehorned into tons of planned developments too. Be on the lookout!

  9. Oh, I'm not happy they're unifying the highway. I made that clear in my comments in the public feedback on this phase, but the reason they have to do it is because Duke would have to move some high-voltage transmission lines at a ridiculous cost of $100M if they kept the NB split. Here's the map they provided on unification. I marked it up with the most likely alignment of the MCG trail. Blue would be at-grade. Purple could be re-use of the flyover, but not even a 1/4 mile later, it'll need to quickly tail over to the eastern side of the Mill Creek to tie into the (Orange) existing trail. So you're really only using not even half of the existing flyover infrastructure, because the other half dumps you off into a wasteland of industry. You could maybe make an argument for using the entire flyover IF, and only if, "The Locks" development ends up being a residential mixed-use complex instead of the current pitch as 2-4 industrial plots with train access. In this case, you could use the "high-line" trail as bike access to "The Locks" and a revitalized Mill/Dunn business district in Lockland.
  10. Good to see the county take a responsible stance here. The convention center FOMO grifters have spilled over into the youth sports facility realm. Everyone's just trying to sell Cincinnati a monorail to nowhere. Why compete with a world-class facility in Spooky Nook right down the road? We won't get our money's worth trying to compete with them. I just heard that Colerain might build a convention space at Northgate Mall... why, just why...
  11. Agreed. It'll double as storage/outpost and nefarious advertising. It also is a great speculative buy if the streetcar extension to Union Terminal happens and those parking lots get developed.
  12. Back when ODOT was taking comments on this 'unification' plan, I, and it seemed like many others, made known that the NB ROW needs to be turned into a greenway and trail. Based on Tri-State Trail's State of the Union meeting last month, it seems that they are also aware and pushing for this. All the hundreds of millions they're saving unifying the highways, a little should be spent at least building a bike trail in its wake.
  13. And, it only makes it more expensive to actually give Central Pkwy a makeover since they'll have to go through the process again whenever they decide to improve Ezzard to Plum. How is that "improved" bike lane/cycletrack even going to work if it's only for 1/4 mile?
  14. Yeah... I thought there were plans for a parking garage at one point? This additional lot is such a waste of space on prime real estate that the Zoo controls. They mention that the zoo has facilities out in the country with solar panels... why not just add more there, or add them on the Dury lot now, or add more on roofs of existing buildings around the zoo? I was hoping they'd build a garage and free up one of those lots for some sort of expansion or real estate play.
  15. All this convention, hotel, music venue and arena saber-rattling is getting to "Let's Build a Monorail" levels. No one's stepped back and asked whether we need this. OKI or some other regional entity needs to make sure funding projects makes sense for the entire region. Seems like everyone's just trying to find the easiest way to get some juicy gov't money.

Yeah, for all of us wondering how we will fill a full-time tenant to recoup the cost to build it, the answer isn't the NBA or NHL, it's having a top-class arena attached for conventions to use nearly every weekend of the year. It ALSO bolsters the case for spending money to improve our convention center to attract top tier conventions.
  17. Yeah, but you also have to consider that would require living in Nevada... I'd take the higher tax rate to live in a nicer state and nicer city (if we're talking LA and SD metros)

  19. We really could have continued spiraling downward in post-2001 and post 2008 as traditional manufacturing left for cheaper pastures. It's a testament to the business polices of Strickland, Kasich and Dewine and all of our great local leaders that we are in a healthy place and growing at such a rapid pace.
  20. It's funny that the religious kooks are so caught up in this one battle that they're willing to keep proposing things that will bring out votes for the Democratic Party. We've been on a losing streak with OHSC judges, but if they put up anti-abortion candidates, that losing streak might end. I'm sure the powers that be in the statehouse are pissed that they won't just drop the issue for a few cycles.
  21. We're going to see equity programs start to fail to find funding now that the ARP money is drying up. Sadly there will be many more non-profit casualties in the years to come. If they can't secure an operating funding source, this is a huge hit to affordable mobility in our city.

  23. I agree. And this gets to what @taestellwas discussing on another thread recently. The makeup of OTRs business reflect that OTR is (was) the hottest spot to for a night out. As wallets tighten, tastes change, and competition from other NBDs heats up, there's going to be some change in the makeup of OTRs businesses. As the population of the CBD and OTR continue to increase, we will see more resident-focused businesses come to the fore. I've been to Milwaukee a few times over the years, and I'm always struck by how different the makeup of their dense areas is. (At least it feels like) there's so many more residential units in their urban areas and there's convenience stores/bodegas all over the place in their neighborhoods. They feel much more 'lived-in.' I know the reason is that we happen to have a bunch of large HQs downtown, which made our downtown more office-worker friendly, but the difference is striking.
  24. I feel like Reece is constantly on the side that will generate the best headlines for her, despite how realistic it is. Of course they should keep that promise, but also, we can't cut services or put our county in a bad financial position because we want to give out a promised tax break. It would cause more long-term harm if the county mismanaged their budget or cut needed services.
  25. Everything is going to get rubber-stamped anyway, because the "Fathers of Cincinnati" always get their way. It was the case before the Democrats had their first ever sweep of council. No need to shove your politics in here. As we've seen in other blue cities and with our statehouse (which is basically all republican), when you have one-party rule, the one-party ends up splintering into factions and disagrees anyway. There will be a ton of candidates in 2025. From the centrists to the ultra-progressives. There will also be candidates that run on single issues as independents. The "Fix the Roads", "Stop the Crimes" types. There weren't many candidates this year because the incumbents were uncontroversial and popular. Our city needed that after the last decade.
