  1. This was in the evening after the festival had already closed for the night. I walked down from Mt. Adams along Columbia Parkway on Sunday afternoon and there were metal barriers set up before you got to the porta potties and the tent. Those heavy metal barriers in an L shape that look like they have exposed teeth facing outwards. There were also several vehicles parked in between the cones and the metal barriers, anyone who wanted to plow into the crowd would have had to sort of slalom through the vehicles and barriers first. They wouldn't have been able to attack the stage head on. It wasn't a perfect security set up, but not nearly as vulnerable as you're making it sound.
  2. In FC Cincinnati's stadium, the seats are mostly blue but they re-created the team crest with orange seats in the lower bowl. Makes it more interesting to look at when the stadium is empty before and after games.
  3. The city of Cincinnati voted something like 75% for Kamala. The only way Aftab loses this race is if he runs over Joe Burrow with his car. The GOP hasn't even won a commissioner race in Hamilton County recently, which is far more purple than the city itself.
  4. Yes, sorry. Didn't mean to address it to you. Edited my comment with his username.
  5. Honest question @Lazarus, since I've only seen you post complaints about Cincinnati on UrbanOhio. Is there anything in the past 20 years that has happened in Southwest Ohio that you actually approve of? Because frankly, your Eeyore attitude about Cincinnati is getting really tiring.
  6. Yeah, this is going to be bad. I-471 North will most likely be shut down for weeks to repair/replace those metal beams.
  7. Trees provide a cooling effect beyond just getting you out of the direct sun. Buildings and hard surfaces like concrete/asphalt absorb the thermal energy of the sun and create a minor oven-like condition known as the urban heat island. Vegetation like trees and grass reduce the urban heat island effect by preventing that thermal energy from being absorbed by the hard surfaces. Also, trees further cool an area by a process known as transpiration cooling. Water is released from tree leaves into the surrounding air which slightly lowers the air temperature when the water changes from a liquid state to a vapor. The media isn't going to spend the time explaining this in a 45 second interview about a local festival's new location.
  8. The decrease in air freight is an industry-wide problem this year, not a CVG specific one. From what I understand, the normal routes for supply chains (shipping, railroads, and regular trucking) have rebounded from the COVID craziness. Companies with urgent shipping needs back in 2022/2023 had turned to the much more expensive air cargo method, otherwise they were experiencing massive delays. Now that supply chains have smoothed out, this is just a reversion to the baseline.
  9. The CLE and CVG routes were being flown by 50 seat CRJ-200 regional jets, most of which are very old so Air Canada is probably retiring them. Also, there is still a shortage of regional jet pilots, so that may have played into the decision as well. I can't imagine these routes will remain dormant for too long though.
  10. Kroger has absolutely abused its status as the heavyweight grocery store in the Cincinnati market. Their prices have climbed for years, which was exacerbated by the pandemic, and the cleanliness and selection has declined. Even the OTR location, which is one block from their headquarters, seems neglected after only 5 years. I'm hoping Publix will come in and force Kroger to start competing again.
  11. Special elections are always a little weird and I don't think this seat has any real chance of flipping in the November election. However, it may be a good sign for Sherrod Brown if he is able to narrow the margins in Appalachian Ohio like Kripchak did.
  12. Cincinnati has hosted multiple iterations of Blink which has far larger crowds than even combination Reds/FCC or Bengals/FCC game days. The bigger issue is making sure that the tracks remain open so the streetcars can actually move. Cincinnati PD did a fairly good job of that in 2022 for Blink.
  13. Part of the garage parking being full was due to the expansion joint rehab project that just wrapped up at the end of January. It took a lot of spaces away for several months. But anecdotally, I've noticed more business travelers since the beginning of 2024. Upgrades have been harder to come by and that was before the spring break season started. I think we might hit 10 million this year, which I believe is an important number for Master Plan construction purposes.
  14. The major issue with lots of eastern Ohio counties is just how darn old they are. Look at the median ages for the counties along the Ohio River and bordering Pennsylvania, most of them are 40+ years old. Deaths are going to outweigh births for a long time in those areas unless there is a new baby boom. Domestic migration may help stem the bleeding, but I don't see this trend reversing any time soon.
  15. Yes, the Devou Foundation uploaded the video to Youtube.
