Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIf I had to guess, I's sadly agree. I remember reading a while back that NRI wanted the final plot to be a blend of Parks Edge and the brick condos along McConell. While I would personally love to see them give us another North Bank tower there, I do agree they'll give us a Parks Edge lite on that plot. It's a shame because NRI has the financial ability to go big but they love their mid/lowrises so much... It's shocking we ever even got North Bank Tower.

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionSmall update, as of today, Parks Edge has 7 units left for sale of the total 151 units that make up the towers. https://www.parksedgecondos.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Parks-Edge-Pricing.9.9.2019.pdf Personally, I would have to imagine we will be seeing some movement soon on Phase III... I just can't imagine they will let that prime of a lot sit empty much longer.

Cincinnati: West End: TQL Stadium
Thanks for the link, this has some of the best looks at the stadium design we've seen yet. I know it's gonna be a controversial opinion but how on earth did they create/convince themselves of a stadium design that looks like it's straight out of the 1980s at street level? The closer looks are rough on my opinion. These designs just give me US Bank (or whatever it will become) podium vibes. Not great.

John Glenn Columbus International Airport
When CRAA floated the terminal and midfield development back in 2017(?) they talked on how 9M passengers was going to be their breaking point which they were anticipating to hit in the mid to late 2020's. It seems that growth has outpaced their projections (which matches what is happening on the metro all together) so I am curious to see if this will speed up any of the terminal and midfield plans. Columbus' growth seems to be accelerating for the first time beyond what we are planning/have planned. I really hope to see the city and related entities start taking growth seriously before we fall into the issues that Nashville and Austin are seeing, we have all these examples of cities failing to build and the consequences that come with that.

Columbus: Polaris Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionApologies, you are correct, its 7-stories. It looks like the final drawings have it as 7 floors on the Wall St. side (the garage entrance) but due to elevation change it will only be 6 floors on the High St. face... somehow this makes me hate them more.

Columbus: Polaris Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWell, currently their High + Cherry project is under construction, but it was watered down form an 11-story design to a brick 6-story box so wouldn't get my hopes up sadly. Crawford Hoying doesn't seem incredibly interested in true urban development, most of their work right now seem focused on the suburbanite who wants urban "vibes" without actually venturing into the city. I imagine if Crawford Hoying is developing this it'll be a hybrid lying between between Easton and Bridge Park.

Columbus: Downtown: Convention Center / North Market Area Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThere are about 10 threads this could fit so I apologize if this is the incorrect one, please feel free to move. It looks like the Hyatt Regency has put in an application for a 275' tower crane for a duration of 18 months with the FAA. The existing structure is 256' tall I believe so 275' would be about right if they were doing something major to the structure but I have not heard of anything with it, anyone else? Maybe window replacement? I can't imagine they'd need a crane for 18 months just to do some HVAC updates or anything along those lines. Anyway, it looks like the actual application was submitted last year but just now re-opened in the system. I'm curious to see what this is about.

Columbus: Downtown: Franklin County Government Center Projects
DevolsDance replied to seanguy's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionDoes anyone know why Dorrian Commons, the park across from the courthouse, has been completely fenced off? Its been blocked off for a while now but no activity seems to be happening in terms of landscaping or renovation.

Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
Mobilization in this context will be when we see equipment arriving, early staging of materials to begin for foundation and infrastructure, electrical lines covered and moved, site prep like fencing and safe zones, construction trailers, and finally prep for excavation and terraforming. Based on the timelines we will see this all begin September followed by heavy foundation work starting in January.

Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
If the times lines haven't changed, we should see things starting (site mobilization) on September 19.

Columbus: OSU / University Area Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI have never noticed this until now and just doing some quick google mapping, that's not only super strange but also quite infuriating. Does anyone know why that is? I cannot imagine doing a normal crosswalk is any more difficult than the weird line boxes Columbus seems to be doing but the standard is a whole lot more visible to vehicles. I did look and notice that the physical OSU campus uses standard design so why wouldn't the city just continue this practice throughout? Very strange.

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
I know a lot of people wanted the old Columbus Maintenance building saved but this is actually a pretty solid site plan, specifically turning the stadium to alight with the street grid. I think if they look into blending the arena district architecture with a bit more of a "warehouse" or industrial style, this area could be amazing. Overall I like the density and the fact were finally developing one of the largest dead lots in the city.

Update, the 7th and final floor framing going up on the northwest piece of the building. I'm in love with how much this fills in the area so far.

Columbus: Scioto Peninsula Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to StuFoote's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI am curious if it's in fact the tenant that Buckingham was trying to lure for the spot last year. I remember in the news articles back then stated that the potential tenant had not yet made a location selection so they could ultimately still relocate to the peninsula, even after Buckingham fell through. I also know of one additional large company shopping for space and Franklinton was/is under consideration, but I cant image they need that much space but I could be wrong.

Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
There will be 2 floors below High St. based on the submitted drawings. The floors are mostly loading docks and employee areas, I don't believe there are any public floors below High St. level. As for the actual height, if my earlier calculations are close the Hilton (342') should end up roughly 80' taller than the Hyatt Regency (256'). I think that render just looks shorter due to the angle it's composed at with the Hyatt being in the foreground and the Hilton Tower falling more into the background,

Columbus: Downtown: RiverSouth Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt's a personal training and group fitness gym called CODE. I believe the brand is owned by LC because it has popped up at all of their urban developments in the past year or so. I am curious to see how it does because it is pretty pricy, the basic membership ticks in at $75/month. Either way it's nice to see that while it's not traditional retail, LC has done a pretty decent job at activating these commercial spaces on High.

As far as I'm aware, they will be building a pedestrian/bike bridge across the Olentangy to connect the end of Nationwide Blvd to the Olentangy Trail.

Columbus: Cooper Stadium Redevelopment
Whoa man, that's an interesting series of renders they are showing in that meeting. Okay, so at this point I'd rather Arshot just divide up and sell the land to some developers who actually can make things happen... or make better things happen and those "concept" designs and zones. Attached below are a few screenshots from the video from those who have no desire to listen to the most vague story ever. "Teknica"... Bold.

Columbus: Scioto Peninsula Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to StuFoote's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIn my opinion, likely. I wouldn't expect anything more than 25 floors probably but I would say the possibility of getting some structures in the 15-20 range is high. What I think gives this such a strong chance is that the land is prime for river and skyline views, throw in that it has no major hurdles to jump through like taller developments in the SN and that the market is getting stronger every yeah, you have the recipe for some height. I also think that having bigger names attached to this like Flaherty & Collins (who have built big) shows that CDDC is willing to go big here, I think they know this is a gateway project in a way and want to make and impact.

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
My guess is NRI is having the lot split to allow for each part to take their respective pieces of land in the sale. I believe the 20 acre section is the stadium and the tiny .04 acres is for the public plaza (southeast corner) that will be owned by the city. Basically this is a good sign, it's often the step right before the official sale of a larger property to multiple parties.

Columbus: Scioto Peninsula Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to StuFoote's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThat piece of land is actually owned by the city and as far as I understand, they have some bigger plans for that spot (and the lot the police outpost currently sits on across Starling) that involve a new cultural institution. I have heard some bigger players in the city want to elevate the museum/cultural amenity offerings to pull Columbus up with it's peers and they see the Peninsula as a place to make it happen, kind of a museum district. What that exact plan is? Not sure, but I have been hearing about these plans for a while so it my guess is that things are still progressing. I would love if this development turned out as great as Slabtown in Portland, it's an amazing area... In fact, we just need to just go full tilt and steal the streetcar/light rail piece of it as well! One can dream right? Overall my guess is that these first three pieces of development will end up being the smallest pieces we will see on the peninsula and that's exciting to think about.

Columbus: OSU / University Area Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt's strange that we really haven't seen a finalized/overall design for the 15th & High project yet, I know we have some loose renders but with cranes (a 240' one at that) rolling in soon, the whole project still feels very ambiguous. I'm curios to see how this all comes together.

This, this is exciting news. Also a local Geologist posted a story on Instagram this weekend that his team has begun Geotech drilling on the site for soil samples. Looks like things are on the move for this project. We should be seeing an updated rendering any week now as well.

DevolsDance replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe new parking structure has hit 3rd St height so far and going up. I didn't realize just how close this would come to 3rd, I'm excited to see how the mesh facade treatment will look coming into downtown.
