  1. What a disaster. Objectively, the new crest is just bad design with no real meaning or visual interest. Historically, what an absolute slap in the face to fans that fought so hard to save the crew.
  2. I am strangely excited to see FINALLY Kaufman using a tower crane. I'm guessing it's because they're building the tower, garage, and office all in sequence but in they past they've always gotten away with crawlers... Crawlers are cool but I love me some tower crane action.
  3. Trying to find out but have no concrete answer yet. Hope to hear soon.
  4. Nope! The Retail/North market extension is still a key component of the project, just didn't have a breakdown of it. I believe the floor space is still being decided because it all has to be divided into the hotel lobby, residential lobby, market, and atrium.
  5. Fun little update for the hight lovers around here like myself... I was able to get ahold of the spec sheet for NMT and the planned height is 356' tall! Additionally it looks like the plan is to have 217 hotel rooms, 174 residential units, 54,000 sq/ft of office space, and 350 sparking spaces . For some perspective 375' - New Wexner Hospital Tower 361' - Hilton Tower 356' - North Market Tower That'll make these the 11th, 13th, and 15th tallest building in the city one complete.
  6. If that was what you wanted to get across then sure, 100K sub-division style houses aren't in the city-propers future.... but thats for the best. I think the "trend" of urban infill and densification is here to stick tbh, for quite a while. Overall, developers still get the bang for their buck and urban areas have really made themselves attractive to many demographics. As for annexing more land? No thanks. I'd rather the city focus on smart growth than accommodate the more wasteful and inefficient trends of the past. Based on continuing of infill and density, Columbus should have no problem hitting that million mark. If things flip back to suburban, I think it could still be achieved but I'd rather it not.
  7. Beat me to it @DEPACincy Exactly, there is A LOT more room on the ground than people realize. Areas like Downtown, OTE, Franklinton, Clintonville, and Livingston Ave all are popular/growing areas and all have so much room for density and infill. Columbus currently sits at a density of ~4000 people per square mile, with no additional annexation the city will average 4500 people per square mile with population of 1 Million. We already have multiple neighborhoods that eclipse this average and plenty that don't. There is plenty of room for infill, and grow within city limits.
  8. I am under the impression it's because the East Franklinton is an Opportunity Zone. It seem that is this developers bread and butter. I imagine there is a hefty incentive financially to develop something like this in an area that is still very much in it's early growth stage. Arch City Development is also the name behind the Out Of Town project in Franklinton.
  9. Downtown Commission packet has been posted. One of the more interesting, and disappointing requests is the demolition of 16 W Main St. Schiff is requesting permission to demo the old Main Bar building and replace it with 7 parking spaces, no mention of planned/future development. Schiff is stating the building is a danger/liability, which is a statement being opposed by the Chief Building Official following an inspection. Good news though is the downtown commission seems to be pushing back in their response, but I curious to find out more in the meeting. Staff Analysis The guidelines state that while demolition sometimes makes way for projects of greater significance, it has often led to empty lots used for surface parking. The long term effect has been the loss of continuity in the architectural fabric of many Downtown streets. While the commission should consider if the building is in a deteriorated state such that it cannot economically be rehabilitated, it is the general intent of the guidelines to encourage the preservation of Downtown’s building stock. With regards to the surface parking proposed, the guidelines state that surface parking has had a detrimental impact on the character of Downtown. Surface parking should be located to the rear of buildings, parking should be screened, and limiting the amount of new surface parking will ensure a responsible approach to the provision of parking Downtown. 10. Incoming excitement... The 13-story project on Broad St has increased to 15-stories in the latest EFRB packet. The project is returning for conceptual review. While the design seem to have evolved, looks like they are asking for a conceptual review on massing and programming right now. Breakdown - 15 Floors - 206 Units (2Bd, 1Bd, and Studios) - 219 Sparking Spaces (3 levels) - 17,000 sq/ft Commercial on Ground Floor Additionally, looks like TRIAD architects have returned with a more finalized/refined design for their new home office. Enjoy!
  11. In addition to the complexity of pours, its how much time it takes each pour to cure to "safe to continue" state. Similar to what we saw with NVMM, the structure isn't large by any means, but it has some really complex pours and extremely dense/thick pours that take a long time to cure. You have to very carefully control the rate at which concrete cures to avoid cracking and chipping. General rule is the larger the pour, the slower the cure. Thats what we are seeing here, complex and dense pours that are taking a bit longer than an upper floor would since higher floors are pretty formulaic/repetitive. If the upper floors are steel (unlikely from what I am seeing), this will rise very very quickly and if they are poured, this will likely rise a floor a week.
  12. I know this has been a controversial announcement it seems but overall I'm happy. I think the new additions and rehabs shown look beautiful. seriously, the added units and density, the salvaging of historic structures, and it ultimately leaves room for growth... I think this is a solid a win for the city.
  13. 100% agreed. The proposal on 5th is actually one of my favorite proposals I've seen in a long time, it's just such a stunner. I will be really disappointed if they water it down/spread it out now that they have an extra block of space to work with.
  14. My understanding is that its an abstracted checkered flag. The specific pattern is part of their new brand and they're introducing all across their marketing and spaces. The new training center has the same pattern in the main lobby and also in some of the stadium interior renders.
  15. The FAA application clocked the top out at 375' tall, while the Hilton is supposed to top out at 361' tall. Some perspective, those stats will put the Hilton slightly taller than the chase center and the hospital will be slightly taller than One Columbus center next to LeVeque. Respectively making these two the 11th and 13th tallest towers in the city.
  16. I think they meant the East Surface Lot that sits between 3rd and 4th. Right now that lot mostly just seems like a giant overflow lot for the various things around it. I know at one point the Convention Center had mentioned the lot as a future expansion/field house, just not sure if that is in the books anymore.
  17. Oh the Austin stadium had such a high bar to meet with all the drama, and the result just isn't it. It's absolutely one of the more basic stadiums in the league... so sad (cries fake tears) I think what excites me is the build out around the crew stadium, and I really hope someone snatches up the two surface lots and buildings along Spring St. I would LOVE to see those demo'd and developed, kind of framing the gateway to the stadium along Nationwide and along Hocking.
  18. Very true, the dark and boxy structure of the crew stadium would be stunning in OTR, while the euro bubble would look amazing in the AD haha. What I have noticed is that as it stands (while under construction at least), the Crew stadium seems to be the more attractive design during the day, while the FCC stadium is a show stealer at night. It's a balance I guess, though I am hoping that the Crew get some sort of exterior/architectural lighting to really make it pop. Either way, they're both pretty impressive stadiums, even more so considering 2ish years ago the state was possibly about to have zero MLS teams before FCC got in and the Crew was being held hostage by the snake.
  19. Looks like in one of their more recently released property brochures they mention the planned/future addition to R&R. The flyer actually states 325 additional planned units, which is a slight increase over the initial announcement. Doesn't means it's bigger, just denser which is always welcome. Id expect to see or hear updates on this by EOY. No inside info, just based on how Casto spaces their projects. https://castoinfo.com/shared_assets/property_brochures/cef373-overview.pdf?ts=1617213235
  20. I still am shocked how quickly OSU got this kicked-off. The amount of cranes in the skyline that belong to OSU projects alone is wild, city is a boomin'... at least construction-wise.
  21. I'm having deja vu to the whole gas meter meltdown of 2016. Honestly that seemed more rational than this backlash, at least with that it was their own actual homes... this is... oof. I'm embarrassed for them after seeing these posts and pictures.
  22. There are dozens of blank walls just itching for murals, it just feels like until recently every landlord or developer has been scared to take these more permanent leaps. That said, it seems that with Gravity, the Graduate murals, the LED/Neon Columbus downtown, and now this... the ball may finally be rolling on these types of public art.
  23. Looks like the SN is getting another large-scale mural. The Short North Alliance & 800 N High have filed an application for a large painted mural on the south wall of the Moxy, overlooking the Eagle patio. I am personally insanely excited to see another huge mural in the city and SN... BONUS, it isn't vinyl! The artist is local artist Stephen Davis and it'll be title "The Heart of Columbus".
