Columbus: OSU Medical Center Expansion
DevolsDance replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionFound it! Looks like the actual proposed building plans list a height of 373' tall, making it roughly 80' taller than the James. This makes significantly more sense; looks like the FAA just got a typo of 303' vs 373'.

DevolsDance replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI just saw this myself! Great minds! I think the listed height for the tower has to be a mistake. The James topped out at 297' tall and while floor count is not indicative of final height, the new tower is set to be 5 stories taller. Based on renders we have seen and the cranes clocking in at 600', no way the new tower is only 303'. My guess is it'll clock in closer to 400' (maybe 403' Ha) and this was simply a typo or incorrect submission. Keep and eye on the FAA site for this to be pulled or revised in the coming days.

DevolsDance replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI sadly agree that it is quite a disappointment. While I felt the concept was creative, the execution was kind of a flop. So many wonderful uses of kinetic screening exist that it kills me to see this turn out as such a let down. I just keep holding out hope they will doctor it up with lighting or some adjustments but I think this may have just been a bit of a miss.- Columbus: Downtown: RiverSouth Developments and News

Looks like Parallel, a developer out of Austin is proposing a 6-story infill project located behind the Gateway Garage along 9th Ave. https://columbusohdev.app.box.com/s/2e5nv3t0mc1b5dt6h5v3p2ytr1sgyhlp/file/728074935845 Overview - 6 stories - 135 Units - 135 parking space garage, at grade, wrapped with walk up units - Total investment around $60M - Developed by Parallel, Designed by Rhode Partners ( https://www.parallel-co.com/developments )- Columbus: Harrison West / Dennison Place Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWelp, here it is folks. Below are renders of the latest iteration of King & High. I will say, its not as bad as round 3(?) where it was a blank box but... yup this is about what I was expecting. Architectural hodgepodge because NIMBYism. Overview 11 stories down to 7 stories, Height will cap at 72' (as zoned) 306 units down to 172 units- Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI have slowly become more and more convinced that developers and design firms read these forums. While I do not think they take everything (or much at all) to heart, it seems like they pick up on little things here and there and throw a surprise at us now and then.- Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
Hilton1.0 had one the entire time it was under construction too! I don/t know why they skipped on this one but I need that to change.- Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
No, I have thought this too. Early on they teased that it may include dynamic lighting buy that seems to have been edited out as the design evolved. Based on the signage package there will be a name/logo placed on the roof once complete, so that might be why. I am still holding out that we may score some nice peek through lighting within the facade though that could create a really wonderful shimmer effect. As for the FCC stadium, while I love the front crown, it is really weird to ma that its only on the front of the stadium facing Central Pkwy, the back is receiving no lighting even though it will still be exposed and visible from Ezzard Charles, I-75, and Liberty. Strange choice. I think where the new Crew Stadium succeeds though is with its ground level interaction. Cincy is going for the fully at grade stadium again (much like US Bank Arena) while the Crew are dropping the field. I think it has an insane impact on how the stadium feels and interacts with the city and I think FCC really flopped on this one. Either way I am really excited for two top of the class SSS in Ohio and the rivalry created with these teams.- Columbus: Harrison West / Dennison Place Developments and News

DevolsDance replied to StuFoote's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionPre-COVID I had been told that Deloitte was signing on for a rather large chunk of the office project (including building skyline graphics), I really hope COVID didn't dissolve that interest.- Monorails
Lord, this conversation has already gone off the rails. Ha But seriously, streetcar/LR is just not that dangerous on the whole. Every system has its flaws but streetcars and light rail are used across the globe; painting it as some super dangerous mode of transit is absurd. As for the monorail, eh. I think monorail is just too limited by design. The system (standard or suspended) feels more gimmicky and doesn't offer the versatility of rail. While I see the appeal and ease of setting up a monorail vs a traditional rail system, the longevity and versatility just isn't there.- Columbus: Short North Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionYes and no. The TownHall in Cleveland was very akin to Northstar with what I considered more approachable prices... but that has changed. IMHO they have realized they are a 'trendy' eatery and it went to their head in terms of quality, price, and general business practices. While I was initially super excited for the SN location, their recent string of politically focused PR, increasing prices, and general drop in quality has soured my taste for it. It is unfortunate all of this happened but if you are a business that focuses on a very socially aware demographic, you have to contend with image. Becoming controversial while simultaneously altering your product for the worse is just not a winning combo. Hopefully something can fill that space once the world trends back to normal.- Columbus: Downtown: Discovery District / Warehouse District / CSCC / CCAD Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionSadly, with COVID I expected the project to go bust so I am glad to see the project moving. The height reduction does stink but if push comes to shove, I have a much bigger issue with the street level facade being a parking garage than I do with the height reduction. I do not understand why they cannot wrap it or mask it to match the rest of the building. Lazy, pure value engineering and laziness.- Columbus: Weinland Park Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to JohnOSU99's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionBased on the zoning application they are wrapping/hiding the garage but ~300 units for this big of a plot is shockingly low and 500 parking spaces is high... I am curious to see the actual design. Crossing my fingers for the best.- Columbus: Victorian Village Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe commissions (as of lately) have gone off the rails in my eyes. While I do believe they are valuable, they should only be able to function as a design/aesthetic review board and not a size/use/density review board. In the past year alone we have seen the GVC stonewall the McGown Hotel project over height, the UARB fight the King & High project over traffic and height, the VVC fight Kaufman over... well, everything. The commissions have a purpose and place but its becoming more and more apparent that they are no longer functioning in a productive way. At this point the city needs to reign in the boards or we're going to see more and more developers start walking away from high profile projects like the McGown or this. Not going to doxx the guy so the simple answer is nope, he does not. I really am not sure what his issue is with this project but I am glad Kaufman is calling him out because the VVC truly seems to have gone rouge on this one.- Columbus: OSU Medical Center Expansion
DevolsDance replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWas able to pull up the site plan on the city permitting portal, looks like right now it's set to clock in at 373' tall. For those curious, the James topped out at 297' and will connect to the new tower. Additionally because I have the day off, I spent a whole half an hour creating this.- Columbus: Weinland Park Developments and News
DevolsDance replied to JohnOSU99's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionDeveloper has submitted a site plan with the city today regarding a mixed-use redevelopment of 300 E Fifth Ave. The site plan outlines: - Total height of 6-stories - Includes underground parking - Contains street level commercial space This land currently is mostly green lot and has a small daycare on the eastern corner where Fifth Ave and 6th St meet.- Columbus: OSU Medical Center Expansion
DevolsDance replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe project website shows that it will be attached to the end of the current WMC tower, fronting Cannon Dr. I don't think they have ever officially announced its exact location, however this seems to line up with early concepts and the discussions.- Columbus: Downtown: Harmony Tower

My guess is it'll go up either tomorrow or Sunday when they can easily close down the ROW for a few hours.- Columbus: Downtown: Capitol Square Renaissance (Edwards Cos.)
Unfortunately I think this was just a speculative/concept study. I remember seeing these renders a few years back when Edwards purchased the building, they were looking at pulling in a hotel operator and these were part of that exploration. Hopefully someday this could be revived, would have made a great addition to the square. - Columbus: Downtown: Convention Center / North Market Area Developments and News
