  1. Alright, so.......this is probably such a weird question and I apologize in advance, but seeing as this is largely going to be developed on mostly rural land far from the urban "heat" core of downtown Columbus..... how concerned is everyone about tornadoes? I know, I know, I know......that's crazy!! It's hardly a concern at all, etc. But I can't help but think about the recent historic tornado outbreak in Kentucky...in December.....in a state very close to home. It wouldn't be unfathomable to see these kinds of freak extreme weather events happening more often and further north in the very near future. I know we can't stop all progress based on weather, and that Ohio is largely fine compared to--like--everywhere else.....but I can't stop thinking about a tornado ripping through a shiny new Intel factory! Help ease my fears, guys. Is extreme weather accounted for when building a facility such as this?
  2. Just now coming back and reading this! Thank you so much for this breakdown and your heartfelt experiences. Definitely above and beyond what I was expecting, but it gave me a great idea of what Newark is like.
  3. This is kind of a weird question, but....is Newark really nice? I've never been there and I've rarely opened this thread to stay updated on what's happening. Maybe I should give it a visit soon!
  4. I'll never understand how we can casually talk about moving entire buildings, especially old looking ones like that. It honestly boggles my mind we are able to do stuff like this and that it's common enough to just talk about in an article about it casually being part of a proposal and not, like, the groundbreaking and monumental thing my mind makes it out to be, lol.
  5. This seems to be a common type of redevelopment for old Sears buildings--making them arcade/sports places. In Canton, the Belden Village Mall Sears is now a Dave & Buster's.
  6. I wonder this as well, but doesn't the city have less of a say because it's a US-route so ODOT is in the picture? I remember when they added the bike lanes on this and Summit, they had to do a lot of work with ODOT to make it happen. I might be mistaken, thought.
  7. I was just in the Austin area last week. This kind of thing is everywhere and it boggles my mind. It's just so normal to them and they don't even think about it.
  8. Things like this give me so much life in a twisted sort of way.
  9. Yeah, they're pretty useless. You'd think Ginther would want to put his mark on the city, but instead he'll continue to coast. Such a bummer. As for the cover of the highways, ODOT sucks so much. I think they're still planning on building "cap-able" bridges on High, Front, and another street, I think. Or at least High, maybe not Front. It's supposed to have greenery and be more walkable. Something like that. I would love if they could mimic the success of the Short North's cap.
  10. No one has been living in there at all? I'm tempted to call LC and see when they are opening.
  11. Well, that was fast. Glad they changed course. Totally unnecessary rebrand.
  12. Question for those who know how these things work: With the price of lumber and materials skyrocketing, do projects like these get affected if they were proposed/planned a long time ago? Like are they locked into a certain price point of materials from when they started planning and financing the project? I ask because I was certain some projects would get reduced in scale because of the prices of supplies right now, including this one, so that height "confirmation" is good news, imo.
  13. Just gonna chime in here and say that Columbus is by NO means maxed out. There is SO much potential just inside the city limits, not just the metro. My goodness, my head spins thinking about it. I don't agree we're "maxed out" at all.
  14. Oh. That makes much more sense. That's interesting. And we still lost a district. I wonder how much more we would have needed to maintain 16 and not lose one.
  15. I haven't had time to catch up on everything with the Census yet. How do we know Ohio was undercounted? That really sucks.
  16. Zyrokai replied to Columbo's post in a topic in Ohio Politics
He was the only one that could. Unless Michael Coleman announces a surprise run.
  17. Can we please stop letting one guy derail every thread? It's so tiring. If UO doesn't have mute button, maybe we should look into having one. Anyway, is Nan Whaley the only candidate to announce on the Dem side of things? I think she'd be great. As far as name recognition, she definitely is someone I knew while living in Columbus, especially at the time of the tornado and shootings in Dayton. I couldn't even name the mayor of Toledo or Akron, but I could Dayton! I would also like to see Michael Coleman run for something, either senate of governor, but it seems like he might be done. But who knows!
  18. Missed opportunity to call it The Goo Goo, going with the baby theme and all.
  19. ^^^Lol. That is indeed very strange. Admit it, though. Everyone is a little uncomfortable when they mention d*ck's. I always add "Sporting Goods" to it, lol. Edit: Omg it's UO that censors it! Haha. I typed it out as D i c k ' s (without spaces) and it automatically changed it.
