Columbus: Downtown Grocery Store Project News
Encouraging....thanks for the perspective! The Neil Ave Giant Eagle is still being leased by Giant Eagle. They're basically holding the property hostage so that a competing grocer can't move in and disrupt their business at the 3rd Ave Market District location. I have no idea when their lease is up or if they won't renew, but if someone knows, please inform us!! They currently still operate the liquor store there. You can even use your Giant Eagle card for non-alcohol products in the space. I actually live right across the street from this shopping plaza, and I just DREAM of its mixed us develpment potential every day. Would be amazing to add some apartments over some retail that can continue to house the essential services that CVS, Great Clips, PNC, and the food options provide, especially if a new grocer moved in. It's such a great location and it's along the frequent bus line 8. It would add even more density to the neighborhood. I bet a lot of NIMBYs would explode over such a proposal, though. But man......a 90s style shopping plaza just seems so out of place here now.

Columbus: Downtown: Discovery District / Warehouse District / CSCC / CCAD Developments and News
Zyrokai replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI am enraged by Broad Street every time I see it. You could run a ditched out river down each way and call it a yacht lane and it would still be plenty wide enough for all the cars. Hell, maybe even an airplane landing strip. Edit: What can be done? Is it a good thing that developers are calling this out? I feel like Columbus is stagnating on its street diet plans and it's starting to drive me crazy. Front Street's two-way conversion only 50% complete? Why!?

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
My dream other than the failed 3C idea is a passenger train that connects Cleveland>Akron>Canton>Columbus> Dayton>Cincinnati. It makes too much sense.

Columbus: Random Development and News
Zyrokai replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionNot sure where else to post a casual comment like this, but I just want to say that I feel new of any sort of development has completely dried up recently. Is this normal for this time of the year? I'm craving something significant, lol.

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
Zyrokai replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionGot it! Very informative, thank you. Another question I've been wondering.....just a nit-picky and curiosity question I can't stop thinking about so I might as well bring it up in a forum with such knowledgeable people: For the 3 buildings currently being constructed in the Short North (Granvide Mercantile site, old retirement home expansion, and the Moxy hotel), the traffic patterns on the road change to remove the center turn lane and push traffic to the other side. This was all done with the permanent paint, as far as I can tell. I just wanted to ask if it's usual practice to do something like this and if they plan to put that center turn lane back in once the barriers are removed and the full street opens up and isn't so "zig zag" I know the obvious answer is probably yes, but it just seems so permanent the way they have it now. They even have reflectors in the spots where I imagine it won't stay.

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
Zyrokai replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionHow can they move them underground when all that has been completed already? They won't have to dig everything back up AGAIN, will they? Certainly there is an easier way???

Greater Columbus COTA News & Discussion
Get that pornography out of here!!! Jk......I was like "there is no way this can work and then I saw the bit about the existing rail lines and my mouth dropped. Unfortunately, don't the railroads say absolutely NO to this?

Columbus: Downtown: Franklin County Government Center Projects
What can we do to get them here?! lol I work in RiverSouth. It's not quite that bad, I don't think. I think the new building going up on Main across from the 303 Front St. building is going to add some character. What really needs to go up is Millennial Tower which would be in the heart of all of this. That'll solve like, all the complaints I'm seeing here. Let's just hope it gets built. And yes, I'd love if that government building had ground retail. Did they already say it wouldn't?

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
Zyrokai replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI personally think the Short North is looking great. I live pretty close to it and I'm there almost daily. I just really, really need them to finally take down the old overhead wires and poles and turn on the new traffic lights/crosswalk lights instead of the garbage ones that are still up. I know they're probably waiting for the weather to break for the year and for these 3 big projects to finish up for wiring and such but ugh.......seeing the old poles and wires mixed with the new ones is driving me crazy!

Columbus: Italian Village: Jeffrey Park Development
Zyrokai replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt's such a shame this huge development is A) not taller and B) apparently shitty quality. I'm talking the WHOLE Jeffrey Park area.

Columbus: Downtown: Franklin County Government Center Projects
As someone who walks by this grass lot every day when I go to work, I for one have been ***dying*** for this grass lot to be filled in. I kept wondering if there was infrastructure underground that kept it from being developed, so I'm really glad to hear this. So what will happen to the old court building?

Columbus: Population Trends
Broad is wide enough for all of that and a lane filled with water for yachts. Like holy effing god that street is ridiculously wide....almost absurdly so. Yet the bike lanes still aren't protected.

Columbus: Downtown: Merchant Building
I'm not an expert by any means, but isn't that being funded very differently? I thought the county and the Convention Center + Hilton are funding it? The North Market Tower seems to be all privately funded with the exception of only $1 million dollars being awarded to it from the state. I could be totally off here but I imagine it's all in how it's funded. Maybe a recession would be good for building in Columbus, as odd as that sounds. Are construction costs skyrocketing because of the "trade war" with China?

Columbus: Downtown: Merchant Building
I mean, it sucks that it was reduced but it's better than nothing. If Columbus keeps growing, there will be more proposals. This puts it at the same height as the Millenial Tower. Both will change the skyline. I think we'll survive. Edit: Also, maybe it'll change again to be higher or something : p

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
Zyrokai replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI gave up my car about 3 years ago now, and I think COTA has been fantastic for an agency its size. I do wonder how often people ride it who also thinks it sucks. I've probably had a couple bad experiences, sure, but I take the bus or bike everywhere and I get around just about as well as anyone, especially after the new system redesign, which I think has been fantastic. Also, I fall under the category of someone who would much rather spend 30-40 minutes on the bus playing video games, browsing the internet, reading the news, etc., rather than 25 minutes in a stressed out car commute fighting with other angry drivers. The lack of stress I have getting around and commuting is pretty unbeatable and I can't see myself going back to a car anytime soon ?

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
Zyrokai replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWell, I do realize that. I probably wasn't clear with that part in my post, but those people fall under the category that they should buy a pass. Maybe I'm mistaken, but they can do that right? A guest pass? Or to get a guest pass do you actually have to know someone who lives there? If that's the case, then that's a serious problem because then you HAVE to use the garages as a worker......which can get really expensive. So if I'm misunderstanding, I apologize. But if the guest pass is $25 a year and workers can get one, too, I don't think it'll be that big of an issue.

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
Zyrokai replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI live in the Short North. I have the world's smallest violin for the people complaining about the new parking requirements. Maybe that makes me a douche, but....I think it's much better. As for workers, they should be taking the bus or paying for a pass. Lines 1, 2, 4, 5, 8 all go through this area. I make it work and so can everyone else who lives near a bus line.....plus it's never as bad as it seems. As far as late night bartenders, there's the Night Owl that just expanded its hours, but those are the people that should be buying a pass. Again, I know I'm probably being cruel, but 99% of these cars driving through are all just looking for parking, so anything ANYTHING to get the number of cars down in the area and increase COTA ridership is good in my book. Also, that guy in the news story who will take the 40-minute walk.......he clearly lives next to one of those bus lines if he lives that close to the SN by foot. He is a prime example of someone who should be taking the bus.....unless he wants to make that 40 minute walk. Also.....bikes! Always free parking. This whole news story is just such.......a fantastic example of a car society complaining that their society isn't perfect for them. Drivers have it so easy.
