  1. I have one question...how is it that the "largest outside on NYC" is defined? I find it hard to believe that Savannah would be bigger than Boston or Chicago. I know that Pittsburgh claims to have the biggest outside of NYC, but not quite sure where they come up with these "facts". Cleveland's never seems to be mentioned in the top 5 or 10...but it is one of the older ones...it is ALWAYS ON St Paddy's Day...has many participants...and last year had 375,000 spectators....so who knows where the boasting rights come from? Nice pics BTW....looked a LOT warmer there than what it was in Cleveland!
  2. I have the Kymco 250 and I love it! It took a little getting used to though because I had a Harley prior.....

HEY! was that a shot at us firemen!?!?! :drunk:
  4. ^ damn elitists and their "Presidents Clubs"....people like me have to fly on a buddy pass and slam down a 40 oz. on the Red line!
  5. The only complaint I have is the use of vinyl siding...I know it costs more...but would these developers use ALL brick for once!!!
  6. But can you boast of a "Hot Sauce Williams"!!...I think Lee Rd North of Harvard Ave. in Cleveland might give the chicken district a run for it's money....
  7. It is ONE of the biggest, but certainly not THE biggest. It is also one of the longest running as well. It is one of the few in the country that is ALWAYS on St Pat's day, no matter what day of the week. This year there are 15,000 participants signed up to march. Many cities claim to be one of the biggest or oldest...but I am curious to know how they figure that? Biggest....does that equal how many people are IN it or watch it? Pittsburgh claims to be one of the biggest as well...but according to one of my friends that is in the pipe band, it doesn't compare to Cleveland. Not sure how Columbus or Cincy parades are either, have never been to either for their parades. As far as last year went, it was a huge turn out (actually estimated at 375,000)...this year might not be as good due to the weather. I think Cleveland would have to be right up there as one of the biggest..but NYC, Chicago, Boston, Philly, Baltimore, and Savannah come to mind as well. Whether you like the day or not...you like the crowd or not...it is a great tradition and gives the downtown a vibrant feel. Enjoy, have fun, use public transportation (or cabs), and wave to me in the parade!!! :)

Doesn't get eaisier than this...7 train to 74th street station..then the Q 33 to laguardia.....simple..do it all the time! :)
  9. I am surprised I didn't see the Lake Ave/Clifton Blvd in the Edgewater Park area mentioned! And as for St Patty's day..."scary"?....I wouldn't shy people away from DT because that isn't YOUR scene!! :) That is a one day party that we are lucky enough to have here in Cleveland. Believe it or not, many people from other cities are amazed at how fun that day is here! I am not one to sit in GLB all night long either, because it isn't MY scene ..but I would never tell people it is a bad scene..in fact I always tell out of towners to see the place!
  10. Just got back from NYC again today and was picking up my bag when I overheard someone asking if there was easy way to get to downtown other than cab. When I told them that there was a train line that went directly downtown they were like "oh, didn't know there was a train in Cleveland". I KNOW some of you will argue the point with me...but WE are used to the term "rapid transit"...many others from other places aren't. How hard is it to just simply state on signs in the airport "Trains to downtown"...easy to understand and universal!!!!! This would be SO easy to rectify and would help RTA tremendoulsy for ridership. I wonder how many other people "had no idea" that would have used the system?
  11. ^ A little off topic, but why is it that builders don't build up to the sidewalk Brownstones anymore? I seem to always see these wanna be townhomes with little grass patches...the old style seems to be so much more urban? Maybe this should be a thread on its own...
  12. Never been there so hard to compare for me...but when I think in metro Cleveland I think of Brookpark Rd, w 25th, and downtown as the biggest concentration...with others scattered about the area (wow..have we sunk to who has the most strip clubs as bragging rights!?!?! lol)
  13. Monte, Where do you find the info for what metro has the most strip clubs in Ohio?
  14. Did I read this right? Did I read that Metro Cincy has only TWO strip clubs? These people are making this big a deal over TWO clubs? Holy crap, these people's heads would explode if they ever came up here to Cleveland! You know...to think of it, they need to relax...maybe we should send em over to Warren for a nice asian massage!
  15. It may not be the best idea to put rail in the median...all I am saying is that I would rather see that than more lanes. It would be a better alternative (to me) to reduce traffic, increase public transit, and preserve land (rather than adding lanes). I would love to see more rail around the city/region than what we have (especially in densely populated corridors), but according to Joe C "not in his lifetime"...how I wish Joe C was 100 years old.....

after a few vodka drinks...I wanna pimp hand all of ya! (again, MTS...I love latinAs..but get no ideas!) lol except pope, he gets props, that detroit thing just scares the shit outta me! JDD with the comment from WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY downtown....good!!!
  18. ^^ RTA also goes to Brunswick for a park and ride in Medina Co. ....even though I would mauch rather see a rail line right up the middle of I-71, similar to the Blue line in Chicago....ahhhh only to dream
  19. ^ just posted my first comment in another city! :) I feel sooooo Cincinnati now

^QUITTER!!! lol Six drinks is nothing for a night out....Hell come the 17th I'll have that many before marching in the parade! But maybe us Irish firefighters have some sort of a drinking problem......
  21. Our valued customers, We apologize for having our heads up our asses in the 1950's and not building the proposed subway system in Cleveland. We NOW realize that it doesn't snow underground and some of these problems would not occur. Since it cost more than a BILLION dollars per mile for a subway system, we have choosen a neat alternative and have decided to rip all the tracks out and replace them with asphalt pathways for our new BRT's! This should solve all of our problems at a cut rate price. Thank you, Joe C
  22. What I wrote (which was not as well thought out as I would have liked, but what the heck: I am very concerned with a few of the highway plans that ODOT has for the Cleveland area (Innerbelt, innerbelt bridge, and the Shoreway project) for the way that they are/were planned with the prior administration. It seems to me that highway projects from the prior admin seem to be so cookie cutter, antiquated, and very anti-urban. What I mean by this is that instead of coming up with fresh ideas to save space, preserve buildings, and keep the city urban...it seems ODOT has liked to cut a huge swath with sweeping grass filled banks, while at the same time knocking down perfectly good building in order to make a highway. Why not consider making a true trench system through Cleveland, using retaining walls to save space and structures surrounding? Maybe even consider using caps ovet the trench to actually TAKE BACK land in the city! I have been to other states that employ this type of construction and it seems to work well (I-696 near Detroit is a great example). I URGE the planners at ODOT to check out a website dedicated to Ohio and it's projects...the concerns the people have on the site are just a few voices of the many. I think you might be shocked at how disappointed people are with the past admin of ODOT. You may also be surprised with some of the great ideas that are talked about on the site. Please Check out www.urbanohio.com and look at the projects and/or transportation section. Thank you for your time. Concerned taxpayer, Joe Dorsey Believe it or not, I already received a response from ODOT! Mr. Dorsey, Thank you for submitting your comments regarding the Cleveland Innerbelt Project. Your comments have been forwarded to the study team for further consideration and will be included and addressed in the environmental documentation prepared for the project to identify the preferred alternative. 23. I did write a letter (email) to the Governor's office via the website as well as the ODOT wesite to express my dismay with the options provided for public transit, the highway projects, and the lack of emphasis on passenger rail that is historic in Ohio. It was not completely negative...I cited ideas that I have thought of as well as others on this site. I even urged both agencies to look into this site to see first hand what other people think as well. I am not sure if it is worth my time or not to send a similar email to RTA due to the fact that JoeC seems completely unapproachable about alternative transit (expansion). I would be more than willing to be part of a "push" to bring this to the powers that be as well as the public. I can only write so many letters to the editor of the PD only to be denied or have the article chopped into nonsense. If we all band together...I am in!!!
  24. I just sent a little letter of concern to this site http://www.buckeyetraffic.org/feedback.asp .....basically pleading for the new administration to check out urbanohio AND to be more forward thinking than the past admin.....
  25. The real question here is....what can be done? When I read about some of the plans ODOT has...some of the statements that come from Joe C (RTA) about rail ("my lifetime" and 100mil cost per mile) it really chaps my ass! (Mayday..MTS..not a word!) There are a lot of people on here that have great ideas about how plans could be tweaked to make things better around the city/region. I, for one, love to read everyones ideas and throw a few of my own in. I also like to bitch about ODOT, RTA,and city leadership when it comes to some of these projects. Is there(are there) someone here that can really get these ideas, through the right channels, to the right people (as well as the public) in a way that looks like the ideas are coming from well informed, educated, highly concerned people? The first person that comes to mind for me(no offense to all else) is KJP. This just seems like such a David and Goliath confrontation to me. When I showed my concerns at the West Shoreway meeting...about all I got was a shoulder shrug. These freaking people seem SO proud of their anti urban, nonsensical highway projects it makes me sick. Bringing up LTR, street cars, true trench and cap systems, retaining walls to save space, or doing ANYTHING below ground is like talking splitting atoms to a caveman !!(no offense to the Geico guy) There needs to be someone/someway to pick up the ball and run with it and make our voices heard! I am sure there are many others out there that may feel the same way but don't even know about Urbanohio let alone have a way of being heard by the powers that be. Any ideas? Letters, calls, public polls......how can anything be done?
