onn.com...it has an interactive map...... I would like to see the same results for issue 3....can't find THAT one though
  2. I wish Columbus would just annex the rest of Ohio already..that way I could just say I live on the "Northside".....(plus I would get paid better being a firefighter for Cbus than I do for Ctown!)
  3. I had about 15...three of them are still in my "secret room".... :drunk:

Why should America feel "shame" for not being 10% muslim? And what does this have to do with Cincinnati?

^ I wonder the same thing! I am going out on a limb here, but I think Cleveland has a lot more public housing and/or below poverty level residents compared to other big cities in the state. I am assuming that this may make it harder to get an accurate count on how many people live in this city due to the fact that many people may not answer the census packets, and may not be entirely truthful about how many people may be living in a dwelling. ( ie:relatives from out of the city or state that may just decide to stay) The population in Cleveland could very well be close to 400K or may be as high as 500K or more....it just seems like such an inaccurate science.

MTS, I guess I should have worded it better. I was trying to BE Chicago...but it is sad to see the decay and decline of "neighborhoods" within the city. Unfortunately, many old buildings, called "taxpayers", that brought buildings right up to the sidewalk and had street level restaurants, stores, etc etc....with residential above, are gone. That kind of mix use promotes pedestrian traffic, which in turn gives a city a city feel. I guess I just get jealous knowing we had as much density as any city but it went the way of the dinosaur...only to be replaced by poor excuse for city planning buildings with front bound parking lots or urban fields(like the project on W 117th..you need binoculars to see it beyond the vast parking area). You see much of this on the near East side on the main thoroughways. I cringe when I see pics from the 40's of the E 55 and Euclid/Woodland areas, Hough, and other such areas. I know it won't be what it was....but I just just want to keep the urbaness in the city. I hate the crap they built on Kingsbury Run, Midtown on Chester, and Chatfield in WP....
  9. Maybe the old convention center could be turned into the aquarium that I keep reading about on UO??? Just a thought

Hey...just stating what I read..just like the article saying Cbus only had 600. That number was from what the PD got from the Cleveland Police gang task force. It most likely was for the Cleveland area, and not just the city...but who knows? I would venture to say that the problem here in Cleveland is most likely worse due to the social factors.

I have to chime in one more time....about the "projected" population loss. Just because somebody projects this, does this mean we have to panic and suburbanize the city? Here's a thought, maybe if the builders were to build more middle priced housing instead of high end stuff, more people would move back into the city. To many on this board, 300K might not seem too much to pay for housing, but that isn't doable for the average person. I love the fact that Cleveland has a lot of nice new high end townhomes and apts being built in and around downtown....but what about the average schmo? What about building neighborhoods like the days of the old? As much as I hate to compare Cleveland to a burb, I have to say look to Lakewood. That city is a pretty good example of urbanism. Lot's of retail, groceries and DENSE housing. There are so many neighborhoods in Cleveland that USED to be, but now they are turning into double lots with single family homes on them. With projects like EC being done, more should be focused on Urban housing options for the middle class and single dwellers. I would love to see some of our main thourough ways (Lorain, W25th, Euclid, Chester, St Clair....etc etc) lined with Brownstones and street level retail with housing options above (affordable ones!) I guess I just imagine Cleveland looking similar to some of the well preserved Chicago neighborhoods (Bucktown, Northside, etc) Cleveland obviously once looked very similar...but unfortunately the wrecking ball had its time to shine! (look at old pics of Euclid and E55th) Kay, back on track here.....I DO love the idea of new construction in the city...but let's not suburbanize the city!

ANY gang problem is a problem...but the atricle estimates 600 members city wide, (which is basically the whole county) Columbus should feel fortunate they don't have the problem with gangs that Cleveland has..4000 members in roughly 90 different gangs(Cleveland.com Oct 8th). I hope Cbus does a good job of getting that under control before it gets out of hand like it has up here!

Okay...I will take the heat for this one...BUT...... The Browns aren't as bad as people may think. We have weapons, we have experience..there are a few parts that need to be plugged in, but overall...they aren't that bad...and yes..even the O line! People need to realize that a decent lineman in a poor blocking scheme makes him look bad. When a coach impliments certain plays or schemes (a la Carthon) and won't listen to his players concerns, bad things happen. Not quite the same level, but when I was in school, my class lost 2 football games from 7th grade to 10th grade....the HS coach left to move up to the college level...my final 2 years we won a total of 4 games...against mostly the same teams we beat the shit out of all those other years. Did we suddenly become terrible, or did coaching have a lot to do with it? Point being, I think the Browns are closer than people realize. Don't expect HUGE changes this week against the Jets, but I think we will see a better team as the season goes on.

It's good to see them actually building stuff in the neighborhood.....but I have to agree, why do they build so many suburban style projects in Cleveland (Kingsbury is a GREAT example)....Is it that hard to build brownstones or NICE rowhouses in the modern day? I am talking up to the sidewalk, urban style housing...not the psuedo style BS that ALWAYS has to have that stupid little patch of grass in the front...I guess we will never see those built again...to bad IMO

I'm with you Mrnyc.....go over your way a LOT...and I guess some people here in good ole Ohio just don't get the concept. Maybe you can explain a little to the nay sayers and dooms dayers that it really does work. I don't mind people smoking at all....I just don't want to smoke with them, and by being jammed into a place that allows it, thats exactly what I get to do. Maybe instead of "spitting beer in the face" of a smoker...maybe we should all just share in their drinks...since they are so willing to share their smoke....
  17. JDD941 replied to a post in a topic in Ohio Politics
Really Pope? Do you have to drink MY drink at a bar...no....so why do I have to breath YOUR smoke? If other places can survive without smoking in the bars, why can't Ohio?
  18. JDD941 replied to a post in a topic in Ohio Politics
I guess I will have to vote no on 5....I mean seriously, look how all the bars in NYC are empty now..there is nothing to do there now that you can't smoke indoors! Come on people...for those that say that drinking is as bad as smoking ...fine.....Tell ya what....next time I am in the bar...when you blow smoke in my face from YOUR cig....I'll just spit some beer in your face from my mug...fair enough?
  19. Too bad natural selection couldn't be a defense in court!
  20. ^ Thanks! Too bad the rail workers here couldn't have been as safe as the ones in NYC or Chicago.....the third rail just looks a lot less "busy" and clean...imo
  21. Okay...not on point for the future, but a historical question. Why did RTA rail choose to use overhead power lines instead of third rail power? Just curious if anyone might know....
  22. MTS...I REALLY hope you could pick up on the sarcasm in my last post......I don't hate the city....I HATE all the freaking drug stores that pop up around here....it seems that every time something gets knocked down...the level the area, build a HUGE parking lot and slap up a drug store! My point was, and making lite....tear down something beautiful like the castle, and put up some stupid ass CVS or something of such...
  23. I don't think bashed anyone at all...I just described what I see as a political and social divide between the Northern and Southern parts of this state (in general)...
  24. I like that idea....pope for emperor of RTA
  25. I think they should tear it down and replace it with a Walgreen's! I mean seriously, why should a person have to DRIVE more than 5 blocks to get to a drug store...this city is SOOOO unlivable!
